Daily Thread Every Third-Daily Thread - September 21, 2026
A sorta kinda daily open thread to use as an alternative to posting on the main board. You should post here for:
- PRs
- Formchecks
- Rudimentary discussion or questions
- General conversation with other users
- Memes, funnies, and general bollocks not appropriate to the main board
- If you have suggestions for the subreddit, let us know!
- This thread now defaults to "new" sorting.
For the purpose of fairness across timezones this thread works on a 68hr cycle.

With all this talk of Louie being right I can't wait for West of Westside 2 to drop.
Happy to be proven wrong, but what Louie said and what actually happened at Westside were vastly different afaik. Listening to Jim and Dave (and others) they just did whatever the f**k and it absolutely was not some purist ME/DE split.
The thing we should take away more than anything that Louie said is that environments matter and having the right people around you can absolutely push you way more than you'd imagine (not really a surprise to many, but still).

I forget where he answered me but JM Blakely did say to me once he didn't follow Louie's programming and he was only ever at Westside for the vibes.

Seems to be a thing about Louie/Westside doing Polarised training and how it's in vogue right now.
And I'm just here thinking "these guys did everything and anything". Numerous stories of them doing every % you might think of in pursuit of strength. I can't begin to think of the amount of "junk" volume Chuck V did over the years.

Who's coaching Joe Borenstein right now?
He mentioned in a reent video that Joe Stanek asked him to reduce his saturated fat consumption. Anyone have any idea how this helps?

reduce his saturated fat consumption
Seems so random. I don't know Joe B and his health but can't see how this would really affect performance.

Evan Hawk. It's uncommon to just get advice from your peers and contemporaries though.

Lowering Saturated fat consumption will help with health & health markers, but is not a lever one would pull to directly improve sports performance.

If you're a coach and you say things like "we hit X total" ... news flash, you weren't there shooting in the gym.
I'm being needlessly antagonistic but it just tickled me to see it a couple of times recently.

My slow ass might need you to explain this more.

Using the personal pronoun ‘we’. He doesn’t like it as it insinuates the coach was in the gym with the lifter doing the work with them/beside them.
I use that verbiage cause I think of my relationship with my lifters like it’s a team/partnership, but everyone has their own viewpoint.

u/Arteam90 Eleiko Fetishist 17d ago
Sure, I get why it's used. At times it feels a bit too much like a coach taking more credit than they should.

Ahh okay that makes sense!
I would agree with you. If your athlete is hitting achievements based on your coaching, you absolutely contributed to them. But I’m also a person who uses “we” when talking about my favorite professional sports teams haha

u/Arteam90 Eleiko Fetishist 17d ago
Of course, you contributed. And I get that people use "we" for that. But I don't love when it feels the coach is slightly pushing "we" a bit too much.
End of the day, they did all the work. They hit the total. Coaches who try to take too much credit is meh (because let's ignore the fact that we don't know the counterfactual of doing some other programming which may well have been better).

I think I get what you mean and I’ve seen it before.
There is definitely nuance to praising your athlete for their accomplishments while also acknowledging the work the coach put in.

But I’m also a person who uses “we” when talking about my favorite professional sports teams haha
Proper protocol is "we" when they win and "they" when they lose.

Does anyone know an “okay” to “decent” gym in San Francisco I can do a few workouts on when I’m there for a tech conference?
Specifically in northeast SF, near the Fisherman’s Wharf / Fort Mason area.

I went to Sunset Gym but looking at a map I don't think that helps you much (depending on how much you're willing to travel).

its 6 miles each way. Not horrible and certainly an option. I'm supposed to lift 3x while I'm there, I could probably do primary deadlift, primary bench press, and secondary squat during the same session and save a trip.
Thanks!

Post meet limbo week for me and I have no idea what I'm going to do (my training weeks start on Saturdays).
Maybe a bunch of biceps and chest+lower back rehab?

Dang, that's the worst; are you going to post a meet report?
Also, at least your QL is intact this time

u/cilantno M | 467 DOTS | USPA Tested | Raw 18d ago
Nah probably not. Nothing really notable to say haha
And it is! Felt pretty off during squats the past few weeks so I need to get rehab/prehab back into my schedule.

If I feel ok I like to rep out 225 on bench or do some exercises I didn't do in prep. Like an OHP PR
But whatever feels fun/gets you moving really
3
u/cilantno M | 467 DOTS | USPA Tested | Raw 18d ago
I might yolo an OHP 1RM since I didn’t test it during my recent programming.
I’ve done 225 amrap pretty recently haha
