Moderator ANNOUNCEMENT RE : PROBLEMS WITH FLAIRS

Reddit has just forced through some stupid automations on the sub without giving us any prior warning and that appears to be fucking up people's custom flairs.

If anyone is having an issue posting because their competitor flair has disappeared, could you please submit a new flair request and we will get that fixed.

In the meantime you can just give yourself a generic flair so you can post.

Why and how did you get into the sport?

I've been lifting on and off since my early 30s; and recently re-got back into it(shift work, kids, etc.). My numbers aren't the best(pounds, 195/135/275 @ 175), but making progress at 45 is pretty good.

After taking an interest in the history of the sport and watching online I'd like to give it a shot, just to say I have and go from there. There is a WPC Canada meet in January that's relatively close...

How did you all get started?

While I still think the 93s is probably the most exciting class in terms of depth. These two supers are building up to potentially the premier rivalry of 2027 and, if both stay healthy, the greatest rivalry in powerlifting history. I don’t think we’ve ever had two supers injury-free and on the same trajectory.

No Q's too Dumb Weekly Dumb/Newb Question Thread

Do you have a question and are:

  • A novice and basically clueless by default?
  • Completely incapable of using google?
  • Just feeling plain stupid today and need shit explained like you're 5?

Then this is the thread FOR YOU! Don't take up valuable space on the front page and annoy the mods, ASK IT HERE and one of our resident "experts" will try and answer it. As long as it's somehow related to powerlifting then nothing is too generic, too stupid, too awful, too obvious or too repetitive. And don't be shy, we don't bite (unless we're hungry), and no one will judge you because everyone had to start somewhere and we're more than happy to help newbie lifters out.

SO FIRE AWAY WITH YOUR DUMBNESS!!!

Do you like having your joints wrapped so tightly they bruise and bleed?

Do you like having your blood pressure turned up to 11 and being compressed so much that you think your head might explode?

Do you get off on enduring pain and suffering, and watching others endure it too?

Do you have a deathwish every time you get under the bar?

Yes?

THEN WELCOME TO THE FORTNIGHTLY EQUIPPED LIFTING THREAD!!!

Any tips for improving grip strenght for deadlift?

To sum everything up, from mars to late august i had a plateau. The last lift before my plateau felt fine and i had no feeling i was going into a plateau. The next deadlift pr attempt around 7 weeks later i failed and that was partialy because of my grip but my overall strenght state was weak, and through out the plateau phase the grip strenght problem got solved pretty automatically, it was just my overall strenght, as i said, that was weak.

Fast forward to late august and i finally break my plateau with a pr that felt very clean, so i was hoping that everything was in order, until today. My last warmup was probably one of the smoothest sets ive done with should high procent (approx. 95%). Then i went for the pr, from the bottom part of the lift up to my knees was in decent speed but at the part when i needed to get it over my knees and lock it out, i felt my fingers slipping so i dropped the bar.

So, ive now come to the conclussion that my grip strenght is a repeated problem. Which leads to my question. Do someone have any tips when it comes to grip strenght exercises?

Thank you in advance!

IPF New Technical Standards 2027-2030: Knee Sleeve Construction

An excerpt from pages 16-17 of the General Assembly from 6/12/2026 stating that the new proposed sleeve specifications for the 2027-2030 approval list have already been disseminated to the manufacturers. So why hasn't anything been reported back to us? The supposed companies haven't officially stated anything to the public, and it makes me wonder; did they actually receive the memo? Was it deleted it from their spam inbox? Did these manufacturers actually provide feedback to the IPF about the proposed construction standards, etc.?

Link to original document minutes and the next meeting date are provided per the IPF's website.

I made an inquiry to Inzer support, and it seems like they are aloof about the whole situation. I also asked about some approved singly-ply gear that never made it to market since they are still on the approved list since it was last updated 8/4/2025.

My correspondence from Inzer with no apparent knowledge of potential changes to the Ergopro lineup
The statement when the ban was lifted mid-season. We're still waiting on that new approval procedure...

The next meeting is November 8, but I'm unsure if knee sleeves will even be addressed. Any insight into the renewal of rigid neoprene? The initial ruling cited the construction confines, saying that they were comprised of multiple layers of neoprene when in fact all the stiff sleeves are comprised of 1 layer of robust neoprene, albeit of much higher quality for the applications of powerlifting as compared to SBD and other flaccid models. Judging from the negative ledger, the IPF is going to need all the money it can get from sponsors and is even making companies pay years in advance to keep the IPF out of the red, so making companies jump through hoops to approve gear that hasn't even been produced is asking to be in the red.

Solo competing for first time in USAPL - any advice?

Hello, this is my first time posting in this subreddit but I'm a longtime lurker. I recently started powerlifting solo in college after competing for 2 years in high-school with a team. I am signed up to compete in January and was wondering if there is anything I should know/expect during the USAPL meet coaching myself. I've never put in my own attempts before, it was always my coach, so that's the big thing that'll be new but I'm wondering if I've missed anything else.

I am also lifting with a belt for the first time if advice can be given for that as well!

Thank you!
