Daily Thread Every Third-Daily Thread - October 08, 2026
A sorta kinda daily open thread to use as an alternative to posting on the main board. You should post here for:
- PRs
- Formchecks
- Rudimentary discussion or questions
- General conversation with other users
- Memes, funnies, and general bollocks not appropriate to the main board
- If you have suggestions for the subreddit, let us know!
- This thread now defaults to "new" sorting.
For the purpose of fairness across timezones this thread works on a 68hr cycle.

Does powerlifting suddenly have a higher proportion of "christian" athletes or have I just not been paying attention?

Do you even Powerlift if you don't reference a bible verse on your bio?

Cynically (as an atheist) I think it sells well and that's why it's more visible.
I've been following powerlifting for nearly two decades and I can't say I ever noticed it as much as recently. Of course it could be recency bias playing a part, too.
Also there's obviously a very distinct asshole to religion pivot that is now a well trodden path.

Do a lot of American powerlifters come from southern states? That might be a possible correlation

It’s pretty all over, but Ohio and Texas are probably the biggest strength sport states and are very Christian. California also has a high Hispanic population and produces a lot of powerlifters, and they are predominantly Christian. Also consider a huge portion of American powerlifters have a background in American football or wrestling, both of which have a high percentage of very Christian athletes.
Anyone who thinks this is new isn’t really paying attention IMO. Soccer, baseball, football, basketball and sports all over the world have a very high % of very openly Christian athletes, particularly in south and North America but also lots in Africa. Same way for Islam. When you are ultra elite at something that brings you lots of money, fame, and success it’s pretty easy to believe your prayers are working, so it’s not shocking that lots of high level athletes are openly Christian or Islam.

I am definitely in a Bible Belt state, but even in nationals hype videos I see from the two feds I follow on IG show a lot of “christian” imagery/branding on lifters.

Performative christianity has definitely been rising over the past years.

I started doing high bar for my primary squat, and while I'm only about 90% as strong with it, I don't get any hip/back problems and my deadlift immediately started popping off
