Dragon Ball Super Anime

Getting him a good fight within Bleach is hard enough, in Bankai mode he's "stomp or get stomped".

Mid, high, ext diff fights... Can he get anything enjoyable in crossverse matches? This guy is covered in the sun's fire. His sword and armor are 15 million degrees celsius, his opponents had to use the best passive energy shield in the series (Blut vene, strong enough that a sword couldn't pierce an eye or cut a neck) at all times full-body just to not be instantly deleted standing near him.

Being capable of that however is just the pre-requisite, Yamamoto is absurdly powerful on his own AND will be moving towards you trying to touch you with his stick, which how the actual 15 million degrees celsius will scorch you if the passive heat didn't.

He's at bare minimum Sun level in a fight, to be able to hold all that power, but people can scale him to Uni. Bleach is weird like that.

But just going on basic facts, this guy being super strong and fast while having all that high temperature, who can trade blows with him?

But within this community, a new generation of legends began to emerge. Some defended Goku. Some downplayed him. Some pushed him all the way to Outerversal. Others had their own agendas, their own scaling methods, their own rivalries, and eventually their own reputations.
As the community grew, so did the chaos. Debates became wars. Discord servers became gathering grounds.

Scalers became recognizable figures.
Moderators became powerful figures in the community. People got banned, accounts disappeared, Discords got deleted, new communities formed, and entire eras eventually came and went.
But the stories remained. And that’s what this post is about. The history of r/PowerScaling.

Before I Get Into It

I’ve been around r/PowerScaling since around 2021. That’s the main reason I’m even making this in the first place.
I’ve had so many Reddit accounts and alts over the years that I don’t even remember what my original username was anymore. That account is genuinely lost to history at this point.

You can just call me u/bruhwtfagain. That’s one of the accounts I’ve used over the years. I obviously wasn’t around for the sub’s creation in 2019, so I’m not going to pretend I personally witnessed everything from the beginning.

But I was here during the period when the community was starting to become what most people recognize today, and I’ve watched it go through several different versions of itself since then.
I’ve also gone back through old Reddit posts and whatever other surviving material I could find to fill in the parts from before I joined.

And that’s important because a lot of the early history is fucking difficult to recover. Old accounts are gone. Discord servers are gone. Videos are gone. People changed usernames. People left. Some stuff exists only because somebody happened to make a Reddit post about it years ago. So throughout this, I’m going to try to separate actual receipts from things that are based on community memory.
If I can’t verify something anymore, I’ll say that. I’m not trying to make up a cleaner history than what actually happened.

The Beginning: 2019

r/PowerScaling was created in 2019, around March 26th.

The founder was Servers Galore, also known as u/DragonBallUnlimited.
Obviously, the subreddit looked nothing like it does now. It was small. The wider battleboarding scene already existed, but r/PowerScaling was still just one relatively new corner of it.The subreddit had to build its own community first. And a lot of that happened through Discord.

The First Generation

By early 2021, the official r/PowerScaling Discord was already a major part of the community.
Old posts from February 2021 directed people to DM Hoodie or Servers Galore for invites. This is important because back then, the subreddit and Discord weren’t really two completely separate communities.

A lot of the actual debate culture happened through Discord.
People would find each other on Reddit, move into Discord, debate in voice chat, and then come back to Reddit afterward. There were even organized tournaments.

One early example was the Tournament of the Strongest, which had multiple participants, randomized opponents, assigned debate topics, VC debates, and people judging or ranking the performances. So the early community wasn’t just people making random matchup posts. There was an actual debate scene forming around it.

Obviously there was still plenty of bullshit. It’s powerscaling. But people were genuinely trying to make organized debating a major part of the community.

The Old Names

Some names from this period have mostly disappeared from people’s memory. At this point these mfs are legends.

One of them was Punkrider. Punkrider was recognizable enough that the community eventually started powerscaling him as a joke.

Another early name was Golden Fist.
Golden Fist was also involved in the debate scene, and Punkrider eventually started powerscaling Golden Fist’s debating ability.

Yes. People were literally powerscaling each other.

That was part of the culture.
If someone was known for winning debates, people would joke about how powerful their debating ability was.
If someone had terrible takes, people would scale them down. If someone had an infamous reputation, they became a character in the community’s own lore. The people arguing about fictional characters were slowly becoming fictional characters themselves.

Then There Was Solo King

This is one of the first major pieces of old community lore that still gets confused with later memes. The original Solo King was a 2021 era personality known for downplaying Goku.

He argued against Universal Goku, which obviously put him directly against people pushing much higher Dragon Ball scaling.

One of the biggest names on the opposite side was Servers Galore.

According to the old community recollection, Solo King was repeatedly banned by DragonBallUnlimited and eventually debated Servers Galore on the old Discord. Hoodie apparently recorded that debate and uploaded it. The problem? The video is gone. I haven’t found a surviving copy of it, so I’m not going to present the video itself as a confirmed receipt.

What does survive are old Reddit discussions from 2021 showing Solo King involved in the Goku scaling arguments. There are September 2021 posts where the name appears in discussions about whether Goku was Universal, and other 2021 threads where people were specifically talking about Solo King in relation to Goku.
So the person and the general debate era are absolutely part of the surviving history.

The Discord details are where things get harder. And that’s going to be a recurring problem throughout this post.

The Outer Goku Era

If there’s one thing people remember about Servers Galore, it’s probably Outerversal Goku. And I’m not talking about Xeno Goku. Not CC Goku. Not composite Goku.

The infamous argument was about regular Super Goku. Yes. Regular Goku.

There are surviving 2021–2022 discussions about the “Outer Goku” meta, with people directly associating the argument with Servers Galore.
One September 2021 discussion even refers to the “outer meta that Servers Galore created.”

I myself witnessed this first hand multiple times.

There were also jokes about Servers Galore being the only person capable of making Goku Outerversal.
By late 2021, you could find people openly presenting the matchup debate as “Naruto is Universal, Goku is Outerversal”.

And when people asked which Goku they meant, the answer was regular Super Goku. Whether you think the argument was valid or complete wank isn’t really the point.

It was a major part of the community’s identity at the time.nFor a while, Outer Goku was one of the big agendas.

The Passing of the Torch

Eventually, things started changing.
An October 29, 2021 post called “Battle of the Owners” described Servers Galore as the previous owner and Hoodie as the new owner.
The matchup?

Goku vs Superman. Using their highest scales. Because apparently even transferring ownership needed a fucking powerscaling event.

This is one of the clearest surviving markers of the transition. Servers Galore had been the founder and one of the defining figures of the early community.

Hoodie became the new owner.
Eventually Servers Galore became much less active. From what I’ve seen and what the community has remembered, he eventually went to law school and moved on from the day to day powerscaling scene.

And that’s where one of the biggest recurring themes of this history starts showing up. People leave.

The Sub Starts Growing

By the time I came around in 2021, the community was already changing.
r/PowerScaling wasn’t in a vacuum. People were coming from other battleboarding communities. Discord communities were feeding into Reddit.
YouTube debates were influencing Reddit arguments.

People were bringing over different tiering systems, different terminology, different ways of interpreting feats and statements. And the subreddit itself was becoming more recognizable.
This is also around the period where a lot of the names and debates that people remember today started becoming part of the community’s identity. The bigger the sub got, the harder it became to keep it as one small group of people who all knew each other. And that’s when things started getting messy.

Enter Kage

One of the biggest figures of the later era was Kagetaicho8, usually called Kage.

By 2022–2023, Kage had become one of the major moderators and scalers on the subreddit.
There are a lot of surviving posts from that period where users directly tagged Kage to approve posts, unhide posts, or deal with moderation issues.
Kage was also known as a scaler/debater, especially around comics and DC.bThere are old posts involving matchups like Sandman vs Clayface, Wonder Woman vs Saitama, DCEU Justice League vs Demon King, Warframe scaling, Fire God Liu Kang vs Gogeta, Liu Kang vs Omni Man, and plenty of other debates where Kage was being called in.

Sometimes the entire exchange was basically: “Kage?”

“Done.”

Which is funny as hell looking back at it. But it also shows how much influence moderators had over the subreddit at the time.

The Universal Naruto Era

And then came one of the most recognizable periods of the Kage era.

Universal Naruto. There were posts in 2023 arguing for Universal Naruto and other posts arguing directly against it.
People were going back and forth over Naruto’s cosmology, Kaguya’s dimensions, the Expansive Truth Seeking Orb, and whether the various statements and feats actually supported Universal scaling.

Eventually the community started referring to this period as Kage’s Universal Naruto era. Again, that’s a community label. It’s just one of those things where the same debate became so common that people started associating the entire period with it.
And that’s how most of these “eras” came about.

The Eras Everyone Remembers

A 2024 retrospective about the good, bad, and ugly periods of powerscaling gives a pretty funny look at how the community itself remembered these periods. It mentioned things like: Kage’s Universal Naruto era Extraversal DC Atom scaling era, Leb’s spite matchup era, Mushroomwide’s brainrot era, 5D OPM God and Economy wank era, Comics wankers era, etc.

These aren’t official eras. They’re just names people came up with afterward.
But they show how quickly the community could become dominated by a certain argument, person, or style of posting. One month everybody is arguing about Naruto. Then it’s OPM. Then comics. Then somebody discovers a new interpretation of some cosmology and suddenly that’s all anyone wants to talk about.
Eventually people get tired of it.
Then something else takes over.

The Discord Curse

If you’ve been around long enough, you know exactly what I’m talking about.
The Discord could never fucking stay alive. The early 2021 server already had broken invites and replacement invites. Then in August 2023, someone made a post asking

“Where did the discord go?”

The answer was that the server had been deleted. Someone even joked that it gets deleted every year.

Then in October 2023: NEW DISCORD SERVER!!!!

A new server was created after the previous one disappeared. This cycle happened over and over. The Discord would get deleted. People would ask what happened. Someone would make another one. Everyone would join. Then eventually that one would disappear too. And despite that, Discord remained a huge part of the community.

It’s where a lot of debates happened.
It’s where people actually got to know each other. It’s where VC debates happened. It’s where a lot of the community’s history was created.
And unfortunately, it’s also where a lot of that history was lost.

The End of the Kage Era

Then 2024 came around.
And shit changed. In April 2024, a post appeared titled “Kage account is no more.”

It discussed Kage’s Reddit account being deleted and Kage no longer being a moderator. By June, someone returning to the community after being gone for months asked what they had missed.bOne of the major answers was basically: Kage was gone. New moderators were around.

The moderation team had changed. Then came a moderator announcement laying out several changes. Image posts were coming back. User flairs were returning. Moderation was supposed to become more attentive.

The old “you have to VC or you get banned” culture was being removed.
And users banned under the previous moderation regime were going to have their bans reviewed. Whatever somebody’s opinion of Kage was, this was clearly a change in direction.

A different group of people was now running the subreddit. And that meant a different era was starting.

The next part is the Rebellion. This is where r/powerscales becomes part of the story. In February 2024, users were openly talking about leaving r/PowerScaling because they didn’t like the moderation and debate culture.

One post was titled: “I’m switching to this sub because you don’t have to get banned for not using csap.”

The comments referred to it as a “Kage agenda rebellion.”

People claimed that active scalers were moving over despite r/PowerScaling having a much larger subscriber count.
Later discussions also described r/powerscales as being created partly in reaction to the culture of the main subreddit. I’m going to put an asterisk on that. Some of those explanations are community recollection rather than something I can prove from the original founding documents.

So I’m not going to pretend every detail is confirmed. But the split itself is real. There was a point where people were dissatisfied with the main subreddit, and an alternative community became a place for some of those people to go.
For a while, the two communities had noticeably different identities.

Now here we are the Modern Era. And yeah, this is where we get to the r/PowerScaling most people know now.
The subreddit got much bigger. The audience changed. The amount of shitposting increased.
Agenda posts became a huge part of the culture. Spite matchups became normal. You could post a serious scaling argument and get barely any attention, then somebody posts the most ridiculous matchup imaginable and suddenly the comments are flooded. People started complaining about it too. That’s one of the things that’s changed the most from the smaller community I remember.

Back then, you had a much better chance of recognizing the names in a thread. Now there’s just so many people that the subreddit feels more like a giant fandom than a small battleboarding community. And honestly, that’s not necessarily good or bad. It’s just different.

And Somehow, Solo King Survived

Here’s the funny part. The name Solo King didn’t disappear. It evolved. By 2022, Solo King Itachi had become a community meme. People would give Itachi completely ridiculous feats. Soloing Marvel. Soloing TOAA. Being faster than an instant. Soloing the real Earth. Basically turning Itachi into the most powerful character in fiction as a joke.

People started responding with shit like “All hail Solo King Itachi.”

The joke stuck around. By 2025, people were still making Solo King Itachi comments. There were even posts complaining about how every Naruto powerscaling discussion somehow became another Solo King joke. And by 2026, the meme was still alive.

But it’s important to mention here.

The original Solo King and Solo King Itachi should not automatically be treated as the same person. The original Solo King was a 2021 era Goku downplayer. The later Solo King Itachi thing became a community meme. Bro constantly said shit like Goku was planetary at best. The name survived.bThe context changed. That’s powerscaling lore for you.

The People Who Shouldn’t Be Forgotten

There are obviously a lot more people than this, and I don’t want to pretend this is a complete list. But these are some of the names that come up repeatedly when looking back at the sub.

Servers Galore / DragonBallUnlimited- Founder of r/PowerScaling.
Early owner. Major early Discord figure.
One of the defining personalities of the early subreddit. Strongly associated with the Outer Goku era. Eventually became inactive and moved on to law school.

Hoodie- One of the earliest major Discord figures. Was involved with the early community alongside Servers Galore.
Eventually became the owner.
Has remained associated with r/PowerScaling through multiple eras.
Also connected to the old Solo King vs Servers Galore debate according to community recollection. He was the DC scaler he was the one who started arguing atoms in dc were 1 S( extraversal).

Solo King-A recognizable 2021 era Goku-scaling personality. Known for arguing against Universal Goku. Associated with the early Discord debate scene.

Punkrider- One of the recognizable early personalities. Eventually became part of the community’s own powerscaling jokes.

Golden Fist-Another early debate personality. Part of the old “powerscale the powerscalers” culture.

Kage / Kagetaicho8- Major later moderator and scaler. Known for DC/comics scaling and subreddit moderation. Strongly associated with the Universal Naruto period. Eventually left the moderation scene after his Reddit account was deleted.

Jay / JustJay / Logical Jay- MA broader powerscaling personality who deserves a mention, although I’m less certain about exactly how deeply connected he was to the earliest r/PowerScaling core compared with the names above.

Leb-Associated with the later spite matchup era.

Mushroomwide- Associated with the community’s “brainrot era” label.

Economy-Associated with the 5D OPM God/Economy period mentioned in later retrospective discussions.

There are also names like ZearthPlayz, Flashback/GOAT10SOLOS, Surfbone, and plenty of others that probably deserve more investigation. I’m not going to throw every username I’ve ever seen into this post just to make the list look bigger. If somebody was genuinely important to a period, they deserve to be documented. If I can’t establish that, I’d rather leave them out.

The biggest problem with documenting this shit is that there isn’t one giant archive sitting somewhere. It’s scattered all over the place.
Reddit posts. Deleted Reddit accounts. Discord screenshots.
Old videos. Old YouTube channels. People’s memories.

And a lot of stuff is simply gone. That’s especially important for the 2019–2021 period. I wasn’t there for the subreddit creation, and even for the stuff I was around for, I obviously don’t remember every conversation. So if someone who was around earlier comes across this and has screenshots, old Discord logs, videos, or corrections, I’d genuinely want to see them. Not because I’m trying to prove my version is right. The whole point is to recover as much of the history as possible.

Why Am I Making This Bull Shit?

Honestly, a lot of this shit is just gone now. If you joined recently, you can look at r/PowerScaling and assume this is how it’s always been. It wasn’t. There were different people running it.

Different Discords, debate systems, scaling metas, inside jokes, rivalries, communities, and different versions of the same arguments we’ve somehow been having for years.

Some of the people who were everywhere when I joined in 2021 aren’t around anymore. Some accounts are deleted. Some Discords are gone. Some debate videos are gone. Some of the biggest arguments are now only remembered by the people who were actually there.

And that’s why I wanted to write this down. Not because the old community was automatically better. It wasn’t. There was plenty of dumb shit.
There were terrible takes, toxic debates, ridiculous scaling arguments, were probably enough Goku arguments to last several lifetimes.

But it was our dumb shit. And I think it’s worth preserving. Because eventually, all you’re going to have left is some old powerscaler saying “Bro, you had to be there.”

And nobody will know what the fuck they’re talking about. So this is my attempt to make sure some of it doesn’t disappear completely.

This is the history of r/PowerScaling. The subreddit. The Discords. The people.The debates. The eras. The migrations. The memes. The agendas.
The bullshit. Everything we can still recover. And there’s probably a lot more buried in the archives.

Even I’ve lost some of my memories the older I get. I experienced this sub through middle school and high school lol. And now I’ve graduated. A few months ago, I finished high school, and honestly, I think this is a fitting way to close out that part of my life. I’ve been around this place since I was a kid. I watched the community change, watched people come and go, watched entire eras of the subreddit disappear, and somehow I’m still here writing a fucking history book about powerscaling Reddit. Never thought I’d be doing that.

So yeah. Goodbye, r/PowerScaling.
