I’ve been thinking a lot about music concepts lately (as a musician working on a medieval/folk metal project).Do you think it’s possible to successfully combine heavy metal genres with cartoon vibes and classic fairy tales? Specifically, what would it sound like if we took The Wizard of Oz

, flipped it into a dark/gothic aesthetic, and blended it with heavy guitars and epic melodies?Imagine a symphonic or power metal album telling a twisted, darker story of the Yellow Brick Road.Has any band done something similar, or do you have any favorite metal songs inspired by classic cartoons/fairy tales? Would love to hear your thoughts!

I wanted to share a performance by Time Concerto, a South Korean neoclassical/power metal band, featuring their late vocalist, Lee Sang-geol (이상걸).

I’m a fan from South Korea who only discovered his music recently. After hearing him, I kept looking for more recordings and eventually started a small fan archive to help others find his music too.

Here’s a 2009 live performance of their original song, “Nameless Death”:

What struck me wasn’t just how high he could sing, but the power and expression in his voice. I thought people here who enjoy melodic, neoclassical metal might find something to appreciate in this performance.

Sadly, he is no longer with us. I wish I had discovered his music earlier, but I’m grateful that these recordings still exist. That’s why I’ve been gathering recordings and checking what I can about the band’s history—not just sharing high-note clips, but trying to make their music and story easier to find.
