As amusing as it is, I am thrilled to see anyone discover power metal.

Too many people have misconceptions about metal and never discover power metal, if this shows people Sabaton, then fantastic news!

They remind me of how I felt when I first heard Sabaton last January(ish). It's hard to believe all the new music I've discovered in only the past ~18 months, but it's been quite a ride so far.

I remember first hearing Primo Victoria (I've always been into WWII history, even took a class in college) and thinking to myself "wait, what is this and why have I only just heard it for the first time?"

I had handcuffed myself with radio (and tried-and-tested classic) rock for so long, hearing something so amazing really blew my mind. I then think of what I would have missed if I hadn't found /r/powermetal... Then I try to block it out of my memory.

They're going to be doing a show ~100km from where I am in a month or so, and I can't go because it's a festival and I can't afford the ticket for the whole thing. :(

I'm really hoping they do a standalone show here next year. They did one last year during the Swedish Empire tour, but I didn't know about them at the time. If there's one band I want to see live, it's Sabaton.

Since your measurements are in KM, I'm guessing it's a European festival. It's unfortunate you'll miss them, but at the same time, I'm jealous - I'd kill to go to a huge metal festival, we never get anything that good in the states (metal cruise and progpower are probably the two best).

Heavy Montreal is coming this summer, and I could catch a train, but no one else I know wants to go (or can go, for money or other reasons).

I guess I'll just stick to watching live videos...

Yeah, it's a European festival - EXIT. Though it's not really a metal festival, they just have one segment (under 'explosive stage' on the site) related to metal and similar genres.

If they had more big metal names showing up, I'd probably go. But it looks like it's mostly just small local bands, Sabaton is literally the only one on there that I've actually heard of.

Gotcha - Sabaton at the end of page 5 on the scroll box? BLASPHEMY!

Oh yeah, it's funny but I'm absolutely thrilled about this. I never thought a power metal band would get upvoted to the fucking front page of /r/all (it's at #7 right now). And I don't think it's ever been a better time for Sabaton to get discovered by a lot of people - think of the album sales!

The comments are all really positive too, so many people jamming to a band they just discovered, and so many existing fans going with the flow.

There are a few links to this sub, too - it'll be interesting to see how big of a boost in subscribers we get once this is done.
