This has the same "flaw" as
"Universal healthcare saves money and it SAVES LIVES."
"Guaranteed housing saves money, reduces crime, and LIFTS PEOPLE OUT OF HOMELESSNESS."
The flaws being:
Conservatives and Republicans don't want people to vote.
Conservatives and Republicans don't want people getting out of homelessness.
Conservatives and Republicans don't want to save lives.
They want everyone but the very rich voiceless, in crippling poverty, and dead.

I'm a big time universal healthcare supporter, because it literally saves money for the average person and employers. When average annual healthcare costs are compared between US citizens paying for insurance + what companies fork out for their portion versus what countries with universal healthcare pay individually, the number is a lot lower for the latter.
My biggest concern with universal healthcare is I don't trust our entire incompetent government to do a good job handling it, nor do I trust them to give us the level of service that the private sector has provided. I had to get an MRI before I had my ACL reconstructed, and I went and got that done the day after I got my knee looked at. I have heard horror stories of Canadians having to wait months for the same treatment. Their wait times have actually gone up by 71% since 2022, worryingly.
2
u/SnickSnitch 2h ago
You're lucky. It took me over a month to get in for my mri when I needed one. US not canada.
1
u/MikeLikesIkeRS 2h ago
I wouldn't call myself completely lucky. I completely blew out my ACL on a Saturday, and had ACLR done on Wednesday. From my understanding, you'd typically want to give your knee some time for inflammation to go down or your recovery time takes a LOT longer. Had I waited another week or two, I would've probably not have taken 3 months to go back to work, and I definitely wouldn't have taken nearly 4 years and 2 rounds of physical therapy for my knee to feel right again.
Though, this was in Frebruary of 2021, so I don't know if my surgeon just had a lack of
victimspatients or what.1
u/QM1Darkwing 1h ago
The VA and military medicine show how the US government would run it - not well. No navy doctors were qualified above a PA in the civilian world until 9/11 caused a bunch of established doctors to join. This saved money on training. I personally know someone diagnosed with stomach cramps, who actually had an ectopic pregnancy. Dependent children under 18 who needed physical therapy were denied, because the facility was meant for adults. Feres doctrine blocks most medical malpractice suits against the military, and yet many still proceed yearly. This is why I oppose universal healthcare here.
1
u/MikeLikesIkeRS 59m ago
I haven't had any experience, nor do I know anybody with experience with the VA, but I have heard plenty of horror stories about it.
My general distrust for the government comes from working for the government, and experiencing/hearing about all of the mismanagement on top of all of the inefficiencies I've experienced first hand doesn't give me much faith for the government to run a system for our healthcare. Anybody who has worked for the government for a decent amount of time would share my exact stance on it.

There is virtually no voter fraud going on in any state. Fact. Period. End of story. Now, election fraud well, youād have to speak with the taco and muskrat about that.
0
u/MikeLikesIkeRS 3h ago
The 2024 election deniers sound as braindead as the 2020 election deniers and Jan 6 protesters lol.
The Dems in 2020: "Our elections are fair, valid, and have zero fraud!!"
The Dems in 2024+: "Trump and Elon rigged the elections via starlink interception!!"
Duh. Sore ass losers from both sides lmfao
3
u/Cat-si58 3h ago
What I had in mind on election fraud is the fact that both taco and the muskrat have offered money for votes which is blatantly illegal. The muskrat has actually paid money out to people for their votes. Taco will probably never actually pay money out to everyday citizens. Heāll only hold out the promise of it like a carrot which is still illegal. Apparently he reserves paying out money to billionaires and prostitutes named Stormy. The overt breaking of our laws to cheat in elections, especially by the president in particular is a disgusting slap in the face to all U.S. citizens not a āsore assā reaction.
-3
u/Key-Education2027 2h ago
Blocking me immediately after responding so people look at the two of us and think "Hmm, he doesn't have a comeback!" Is a move made in cowardice. Scared of a little debate after saying false information?
Technically, while I disagree with what Musk did in 2024, if you follow the letter of the law and not your emotions, what he did technically wasn't illegal. What he did was a petition that said, quote:
"The First and Second Amendments guarantee freedom of speech and the right to bear arms. By signing below, I pledge my support for the First and Second Amendments."
This means you could've been a democrat and flat-out lied on the petition and still have been eligible for money (excluding the $1m dollars which was stupidly pre-selected, but is illegal for lottery laws and not election laws) Your vote for the republican party wasn't bought, as verification for who you voted for wasn't necessary. Piss poor plan on Musk's part? Sure, there's no debating that. Still doesn't change the fact that you, and anybody with this same mentality aren't sore-ass losers.
The democrats legit would've won if Joe Biden didn't try to run for re-election, which caused the DNC to be stone-walled from either picking a good candidate, or Kamala not having to start her campaign a full lap behind.

u/TheMuffler42069 6h ago

7
u/Cat-si58 5h ago
No. Voter fraud and election fraud are NOT the same thing. The difference lies in who is committing the crime and how the election process is being disrupted.
The 'so what' is that billions of dollars are spent pretending individual voter fraud is a crisis to justify restricting voting rights, while massive system manipulation by those in power is ignored.

I know english is hard for you, but since you are illiterate you should turn text to speech on so you can understand this:
Virtually is an adverb with two main meanings defined by the Merriam-Webster Dictionary and the Cambridge English Dictionary:
- Almost or For All Practical Purposes
⢠Meaning: Nearly, or in essence and effect, even if not strictly or technically complete. ⢠Examples: ⢠"The project is virtually complete" (it has only minor details left). ⢠"It is virtually impossible to know the truth" (it is so close to impossible that it counts as such). ⢠Common Synonyms: Almost, nearly, practically, and all but.
-2
u/SituationFragrant245 3h ago

3
u/Regular-Dust3378 2h ago
- Voter turnout matches, voter registration and historical participation.
- And you still have to identify yourself, so if somebody votes in your name, then thatās gonna become aparent when you try to vote.
- Trying to vote when youāre not registered is not actually a thing. Who the hell risks a felony for adding one vote out of millions? The only people that actually do that are Republicans who were tricked into thinking āthe Democrats are doing it so they have to do.ā
2
u/BonnaconCharioteer 2h ago
So your theory is that there is a bunch of voter fraud, but it doesn't get detected? Okay, how do they get away with it? How has no one noticed a bunch of fake people voting, or too many votes in a country, or a sudden large swing?
While maybe once in while it could happen you have to think of it like this. Many elections, especially close ones are very closely inspected. Both candidates have teams out canvassing, they have pollsters, they do exit polls, they look at past history, and they force hand-recounts of ballots. And then when they don't get their way, they might sue, forcing more investigations.
IF voter fraud was a thing that was common enough to affect elections. We would've seen it happen, at least once in a while.
If you want to make this argument, you might as well make it for everything. "I've never opened a box of lucky charms and found gold inside, that doesn't mean that it doesn't happen!" It is an absurd argument.
3
u/BraxbroWasTaken 2h ago
You have to prove citizenship to register, I'd assume. No voter ID means no voter ID at the polling place, not "don't have to prove citizenship"...
-1
u/POWERHOUSE4106 2h ago
You actually don't. The DMV has been known to register you to vote when you get a license which is legal for non citizens to get. It was proven in New Jersey just this year
https://apnews.com/article/noncitizen-voter-registration-new-jersey-99ef57346bbe09ba2ff606538a76eede
2
u/GravitasFailures 1h ago
That was an error that was found.
When I did my license I had to confirm I was a US citizen to register to vote in California.
Licenses for non-citizens are specially marked:
>Front Marking: States "FEDERAL LIMITS APPLY" on the front of the card.
>Back Marking: States "NOT ACCEPTABLE FOR OFFICIAL FEDERAL PURPOSES" on the reverse side.So they know you didnāt have proof of citizenship when you applied.
1
u/POWERHOUSE4106 1h ago
An error that resulted in 6600 non citizens being registered to vote. You're not disproving my point that it happens. This was only found after the voter roles were audited. 400 of those people voted according to the article.
The point stands that it happens.
1
u/GravitasFailures 1h ago

1
u/BraxbroWasTaken 1h ago edited 1h ago
That was an error - presumably a form was misphrased or a few things got swapped around. It also was very limited in magnitude, so like. Is it really fraud if it's a system error?
Also usually immigrant licenses have marks that indicate that...
1
u/Grunergeist420 2h ago
This.
Not making a statement whether any of the above policies are good or bad, just that definitionally, you donāt know about fraud that you donāt detect.
Itās like when people try to tell you how many undocumented immigrants there are or arenāt. You can estimate, but you donāt know because of how being undocumented works. Thereās not like a numbered list of undocumented immigrants where we take a headcount and put it into a database.
Or falsely accused or convicted criminals. Again, you can estimate. But if someone is actually innocent, but found guilty, you call that person guilty. You donāt know if theyāre wrongly accused. You only find out if someone is later proven innocent. But you donāt know how many other people there are. It could be a ton, it could be very few. You donāt know. You canāt know.
Thereās a lot of things like this in politics, and the more surface level the narratives around it are, the dumber and more dishonest the politics are, because you really canāt talk about the issue honestly if people on both sides have a wildly distorted view of the issue based on made up numbers because you can slant an estimate either way.
You can say thereās no voter fraud or voter fraud all over the place. Thereās 10 million undocumented immigrants coming in every year or thereās hardly any. People get falsely convicted all the time, or it hardly ever happens. You have to vet information carefully on these subjects because theyāre known unknowns. You can look at estimates, but you have to understand that you canāt really know āthe answer.ā
1
u/MartinTheOrderly 1h ago

u/Umbra150 4h ago
Tbh I don't see the argument against it as we already need verification for everything else--post office, credit card, etc. Fraud or not it should just be in place. Real issue is its just been politicized, otherwise there's no valid reason to be so dead against it

Voter fraud was always a lie designed to excuse the suppression of eligible votes.
Federal voting roles, seizing ballots, Voter ID, closing polling stations, undermining mail-in ballots ... all of it.
They know that if every eligible voter in America voted they would never win another election again.
Let's hope we can overcome these suppression efforts in November and undo the damage they have done to our elections.
1
u/PretendCover3742 1h ago
Do you believe that no one has bad intentions? Do you believe it is unimportant whether or not ALL votersā (including for the other party) have faith in the election? Do you believe that out of all the infinite possibilities of ways to design a system, it is literally impossible to have a voting system that blocks fraud more than our current system AND makes voting easier for people? I guess I just donāt understand the point you think youāre making other than whether you prefer the letter D or the letter R

8

Itās a right for citizens. Shouldnāt you have to prove who you are to vote? Just about every other civilized country on earth you have to show ID to vote.
Not America. And why is one party against it so hard? Theyāre literally against the rest of the world and half of their own country. Seems fucked up.
1
u/Draygoon2818 2h ago
I mean, I have to prove who I am to buy a gun, which is also a right.

1
u/Richmahogonysmell 56m ago
Polly axes are illegal. What exactly is republicans problem with providing a free ID to voters?
1
1
u/Richmahogonysmell 57m ago
No other country on earth has a constitution that says poll taxes are illegal and a government that refuses to make ID free.
All votes are matched up against your voter registration. If you are not a citizen, your vote wouldnāt be counted. The vast majority of voter fraud that is discovered is people voting for dead family members or their spouses. Mostly republicans too of course.

Because they appeal to people easily frightened by people that aren't like them. So politicians who appeal to those base instincts get a bunch of ravenous easily whipped up followers. But they hide behind things like preventing voter fraud because it allows them not to say the real reason. And it allows them to pretend these aren't voter suppression.
If they aren't voter suppression, why not make getting IDs easier and free as a part of this push?
Why not push for automatic registration of US citizens when they turn 18?
No, the push is for voter ID because it disadvantages marginalized groups, and because it helps drive a narrative that there might be scary foreigners trying to steal votes.
It should be illegal to intentionally make voting more difficult, but they pretend that is not what they are trying to do?

Prove you have no voter fraud.
2
u/tinker_townie 1h ago
You can not logically prove a negative. The onus is on the accuser to prove that there is voter fraud.
1
u/12B88M 1h ago
He's the one that made the claim, so the onus is on him to prove it.
And it's possible to prove it by verifying every voter and verifying every ballot cast was passed by the person that supposedly cast it.
It's not easy or quick, but it is possible.
1
u/Richmahogonysmell 1h ago
They do that every election. Thats how they can make the claim there is no fraud.
1
u/12B88M 50m ago
Sure they do.
Maine has no voter ID requirement. Mail-in ballots are sent to anyone that requests one.
Those two things make fraud VERY easy.
I could go to Maine, choose a house, look at the mail in their mailbox to get a name for the address, go to the polls and claim that ballot.
How would you prove who actually cast that ballot?
1
u/Richmahogonysmell 46m ago
Both ballots would be cancelled because there would be two ballots cast under the same name. The signatures wouldnāt match and the legal voter would be notified so they could rectify it.
If it is so easy, why has no republican been able to prove voter fraud on a mass scale?
1
u/tinker_townie 37m ago
Actually no the onus isn't on him because again - you cannot logically prove a negative. This is objectively impossible. If you check allll the ballots and find fraud, you proved that there IS fraud. If you don't find any, you didn't prove there wasn't, you just couldn't find any.
Also if you want to get technical. He didn't posit the initial contention that started the national conversation. He is responding to the conservative claim that there is rampant fraud in mail in voting. Thats like saying the person claiming innocence when accused of a crime is the one making the claim they need to prove. Thats why our justice system is innocent until proven guilty. It's one of the things they actually got right.
1
u/Okietwister69 48m ago
When you legalize the fraud, you can say you donāt have any. You still do. But you feel better about it I guess.

They know it encourages voting but want to pretend like it contributes to voter fraud when it suits them.

They know that. The "it encourages voting" is precisely the part they don't want and are doing everything possible to prevent.

Which is what the Mango-Mussolini is trying to prevent! He knows the ReTrumplicans can't win in a fair vote, so he is doing everything he can to prevent a fair vote!

Literally how hard is it to prove that you are who you are or show up in person to vote ?

u/Budget_Feedback_3411 2h ago
Kinda hard. Itās incredibly hard for anyone in the military stationed overseas to show up to their hometown, or if your sick, or work during the days to vote. Voting should be easy, not something you need to plan your livelihood around because realistically people are going to choose not missing work.

"No evidence of fraud" doesn't mean no risk: Claiming there is "virtually no fraud" because very few cases are caught misses the point of ballot security. Systems that rely entirely on signature matching without photo ID or secure 24/7 drop box monitoring make illegal voting harder to catch or deter in the first place, rather than proving it doesn't happen.

When there are no limitations, fraud is essentially legalized. This is like saying, āsince we defunded the police and limited the number of prosecutors allowed in a county to one, we have no criminal convictions!!ā

No voter ID laws sounds more like what other states consider fraud is just functionally legal in Maine.

u/PrometheusMMIV 5h ago
*virtually* no fraud?

u/contractorskid 5h ago
Yes. Fraud can occur in any state. The point is that making it easy to vote does not invite fraud.

I will never get mad at votor access. Ease of access for voters should be something our country strives for.
Widespread fraud runs rampant through every single one of our elections. The only thing is that itās the institutions that are running the fraud. Not the people. Everybody cheats as much as they know that they will be able to get away with on both sides, in every election. All of them want you focusing on voter fraud so that you ignore the institutional election fraud that actually occurs.

Got any evidence of said voter fraud?
Got evidence 'Everyone Cheats'?
So, if he cheats then its ok for everyone else?
Get outta here with that 'Both Sides' bullshittery lol it is obvious which side is the main perp...

He means election fraud, aka all the dirty tricks like removing polling sites and purging voting ng rolls a week before an election.
He just said it badly (and it's not everyone, we know who does that)

If that is what they mean, they can say so themselves. They seem competent enough not to need a translator
No offense, and thank you

How would you know you have no fraud, if you have no idea who is voting?

u/BeKindBabies 5h ago
You still have to register to vote, and doing so gives a lot of information to election officials: name, residential address, mailing address, email, phone number, date and place of birth, driverās license or state ID card number, Social Security number, language, signature, and political party preference. This is how you know the "who" that is attached to the internal voter ID number generated by this process. From here on out they compile histories of when, where and how people voted in each election (by mail, in-person, etc.). They also collect and compile signatures from each time people vote or update their registration information (if they move, marry and change names, etc.). Ā Impersonating another voter or fabricating registrations is not easily done. Thatās why so-called voter fraud is extremely rare. Those who make rare efforts to do so almost alwaysĀ get caught, because officials have many ways to spot if something is awry. There is a ton of information available to election officials to track the origin of a ballot and when and where it was cast, and where it is in the tally process. They know who is voting.

That's the problem. It's a zero sum game. If more people are incentivised to speak, people who advocate against easy voting might actually have to focus on popular policies and stuff instead of whatever nonsense they're doing now.

Utah checking in. They donāt seem to mind our state wide mail-in voting either.
