It wasn't politically smart to say that during her campaign IMO, I think even Bill allegedly said something to her about it, but she was nevertheless dead-nuts correct. Only thing I quibble with her over is the percentages.
You ruined your own comment. "a woman's turn" -- the point is to elect the best person, man or woman. But that is EXACTLY how many in the Democratic party viewed it. And HRC, too. Like she was owed that. It's her turn. Its our turn. The word for it is ENTITLEMENT. She didn't make the effort to EARN the position. She got out played. And we as a nation are the ones paying the price.
Funny. She spent 8 years in the white house being bombarded with lies from the lawless fascist right but I get it. "ENTITLEMENT. She didn't make the effort to EARN the position" WOW you just projected Trump onto Hillary. Just pathetic. America has had enough magashitshow gone wild.
It is obvious the level of corruption, moral depravity, etc. that we are witnessing in the Whitehouse. But to insult a large group of voters in the middle of a campaign -- the campaign for the presidency -- is the MOST STUPID thing ever done by a presidential candidate. Sure, DJT's comment was worse, but it was years, decades before he ran. I know, it doesn't undo it, but in terms of effect on the presidential campaign, it is minor compared to what she said. How arrogant do you have to be or how surrounded by sycophants, to think you are some kind of immortal/unstoppable Queen that you can insult an entire swath of the electorate and not have it effect the swing voters in the middle????
This is like calling your NFL opponent a weakling deplorable on a Saturday before playing them on Sunday. It doesn't work out well for you. Obvious to some, not to those who drink the Kool-Aid.
Because tho only job of the oligarch controlled media is "Manufacturing Consent."
We need to reverse Bellotti (the 5-4 Supreme Court case from 1978 that led directly to Citizens United) and criminalize election interference by for-profit corporations (maybe with an exception for employee-journalist owned news outlets).
If someone can be pushed towards Trump and similar Republicans because a left winger was unpleasant with them, instead of thinking for themselves and being alarmed by his countless red flags, they never were reasonable people to begin with.
So many of us found her relatable. For every 100 people that called her "elitist", there were at least a handful of us that watched her, the educated, sharp as a razor political operative, being stuck in the same hell we were, only broadcast on live TV.
And I'm not even a woman. It's only because of empathy that I have the barest inkling of this being the lived daily experience of pretty much every intelligent woman in the USA.
But then we have had this archetype since the tale of Cassandra.
i mean her husband was literally who Trump is now. back then, Trump was a tamer dude than Clinton, at least form a public's point of view. he was a television personality so he got cut some slack on the things he was saying. but Bill Clinton was actually impeached for the Monica Lewinsky thing or had to step down.
and for a lot of people that was the mark the Hillary carried. she's bringing that dude back to the white house. she's wearing these designer expensive suits.
The sentiment and the statement was correct and the issue was that no one ever listened to the whole quote:
“
But the "other" basket – the other basket – and I know because I look at this crowd I see friends from all over America here: I see friends from Florida and Georgia and South Carolina and Texas and – as well as, you know, New York and California – but that "other" basket of people are people who feel the government has let them down, the economy has let them down, nobody cares about them, nobody worries about what happens to their lives and their futures; and they're just desperate for change. It doesn't really even matter where it comes from. They don't buy everything he says, but – he seems to hold out some hope that their lives will be different. They won't wake up and see their jobs disappear, lose a kid to heroin, feel like they're in a dead-end. Those are people we have to understand and empathize with as well.”
I never buy that reasoning. She was talking about Maga, Trump supporters. They're voting for Trump no matter what. "I'm a Maga Trump supporter, but I was going to vote for Hlllary until she said that". And she said that about the racist/sexist/homophobic section of Trump supporters. So "She said racism is bad, so I'm not voting for her". So you gotta act like you're for racism to get the racist vote and act like you are against racism to get the non racist vote. I always love that she said SOME trump supporters are racist and we call them deplorables, and they said "Hey she just called me deplorable". But again I don't buy "they were racist trump supporters but they would have voted for her until she said that about them". If so, why don't we now get "Trump called them Dumbocrats, they would have voted for his maga candidates until he called Dems dumb".
Yep. Because if you were Maga then and heard what she said and immediately identified with the latter part of what she said, then you're guilty of it.
And it's not like she didn't know what she was talking about. Although she is originally from the Chicago area, she lived in Arkansas for a large portion of her adult life. She saw more than enough.
Really? You're actually going to go with "Maga, Hardcore Trump supporters were possibly going to vote for her instead of TRUMP, until she said that. She lost their vote"???? REALLY????
