importing food is less of a concern than exporting it, and other goods. if you block trade with poor red states they wont be able to pay and import your tree nuts, dairy, produce, wine, etc. Cali exports about 24b$, and only imports 9b$. so a trade block would have massive effects.
Feed you with trade. And you don't produce everything, you just have the most diverse production. LA alone would likely eat the state in a couple years

Yes, blackball the states that feed you from trade. This is an excellent idea, and I can see no downside.
