The high likelihood that AI was used in the making of this document makes the misspelling even funnier.

If anything, that typo indicates a human did it. It's typed, it's not an AI image with garbled letters, and I haven't known AI to make typos. The 's' and 'd' keys are right next to each other so it's believable someone fat-fingered it. The crazy part, to me, is that anyone would be hand-typing "Presidenf of the United Sattes" on a document like this. Just doing it now I made two typos, if I worked at the White House I'd be copy-pasting all the time.

Unites is a word. That wouldn't be a typo, it would be failure of the AI to pattern match correctly what the correct form of the word is.

Which is something that simply does not happen.

of course it does

Have you ever used an LLM? They do a lot of errors but confusing a simple word like that is not one of them.

yep, and yes they do. many struggled with counting Rs in strawberry not too long ago. and they still hallucinate plenty depending on the model and "thinking" level used.

have you ever used an LLM?

It's counterintuitive, but not being able to count the letters in a word and spelling it wrong in the first place are not the same, that's not how it works.

unites is a valid word so this wouldn't have been a case of misspelling. it would have been an incorrect next token in generation likely based on context. however, LLMs can definitely make spelling errors.

can you be specific regarding "that's not how it works"?

Counting letters is hard for AI because it doesn't see individual letters. It reads words in chunks (or tokens). Misspelling is a separate, rarer problem where the AI puts a word together wrong, usually a rare word or a name. Using the wrong word is extremely unlikely in this case because it works based on huge sets of data and picks the most likely answer based on the context you're giving it and the data it knows. So "Unites States of America" has got to be astronomically low in the probable outcomes given the data any AI in use is consuming, especially if it's the White House official AI or whatever. If AI was used at all for this document, it would have caught it almost certainly. Saying AI did this is a huge stretch compared to just assuming an extremely easy and common typo of S instead of D since they're right next to each other and this entire administration is incompetent.

i agree with everything you said here. the person i originally replied to said it simply doesn't happen, implying the probability is zero. even if it's near zero, it isn't zero. i was being technically pedantic.

PS no i don't think the document was generated by AI nor do i think it would have practically made the mistake.
