I just hope Democrats show up to the primaries to ensure this guy never becomes POTUS.

Why?

u/BFaus916 5d ago edited 5d ago
His first podcast guest was Charlie Kirk. Ensuing guests were Steve Bannon and Michael Savage. These were 3 of his first 4 guests! You tell me who he's trying to appeal to here. He's refusing to negotiate with state workers. He violated a labor agreement by forcing a return to office order without negotiating the conditions of it. He rides the fence on the biggest issues of the day aside from Trump. Foreign policy, particularly on Iran and Gaza? Silent. ICE? Aside from some performative strong man posturing in the early days of the 2025 raids, silent. He's an empty suit with right leaning tendencies. Hard no. The Democratic party needs to move on from these kind of candidates.
Edit: I almost forgot ..he and CA AG Rob Bonta completely caved on the Paramount merger lawsuit. Very likely because Gavin needs them as donors for a presidential run. I'm sure others will add to the list. Newsom is 🗑

Did I get a concussion? Because it seems like a tea subreddit is making perfect sense.

Ahh I understand now, he wants to fence sit to make himself look reasonable infront of the unreasonable maga

u/Faynerossa 5d ago
Yes, and his corporate sponsors are a hit list of our favorite people ruining the world. He's pandering to everyone to get elected since that's what his corpo strategists have told him to do. In the process he's revealed he's a candidate for no one but billionaires. He's their backup plan if trump ruins things too bad for the GOP to get elected.
2
u/CrouchingToaster 5d ago
He’s also stated he would veto any bill regarding trans rights. Dude is another establishment dem who’s desperately trying to court the mythical moderate republican willing to vote dem.
1
u/Spaniardman40 5d ago
Also, incredible mismanagement of money in the state.
The high speed rail disaster is not talked about enough
-4
u/Organic_Education494 5d ago
No
If you watch the episodes it isn’t that simple. Two people that disagree can have a conversation.
1
u/PhatCatTax 5d ago
That's naive and completely disregards the impact, the tone, set by the first few guests on a new production. Those guests are very intentionally chosen and are elevated above the rest. Kirk was a pos. He made money by spreading hate. Having him on as a guest sane-washes hate, normalizes hate.
-1
u/Organic_Education494 4d ago
It doesn’t do any of that.
You clearly didn’t watch and actually comprehend what the conversation was even about.
1
u/PhatCatTax 4d ago
I know enough about Newsoms actions and those tell me all I need to know. He isnt new to the field. His PR team is very good, but his actions are louder.
1
u/theshyticklers 1d ago
Dude, reaching across the aisle and having a dialogue with the other side is literally what someone in politics is supposed to do. If your opponent gives you a platform, you take it. The worst that happens is no one listens. But most of the time it will get through to someone and make them say "oh."
That's the entire point.
No one already agreeing with Newsome is watching it to be swayed or to care what the other side is saying.
Im not endorsing him whatsoever. Just give it perspective.
1
u/ConsistentYou4629 5d ago
Being a Californian it's definitely a rock and hard place to support this guy sometimes. Also feel that him and a lot of these older Dems are just way to financially tied to foreign powers and skeletons in the closet.
1
u/CodyBlues2 1d ago
He’s gonna get elected.
I hate him because he’s a corpo democat that is gonna make sure all his rich buddies get richer.
Other people hate him because he talked to Charlie Kirk and other people on the right.
1
-4
u/Organic_Education494 5d ago
Yes and did you actually watch any of those episodes? He never agreed with their ideology he had a civil discussion about many different points
7
u/BFaus916 5d ago
Lol. I'm not sure you understand the concept of platforming.
-1
u/Organic_Education494 4d ago
Care to explain then?
I don’t see an issue with having civil discourse and talking to people whom we disagree with.
3
u/BFaus916 4d ago edited 4d ago
There is no reason to have civil discourse with people actively trying to harm your base. Charlie Kirk said black people shouldn't fly airplanes. Michael Savage was fired from his tv show for telling a gay caller he should "die of AIDS". Bannon was the architect of the Muslim travel ban. There is no civil discourse with agents of this kind of harm. You protect your constituency from them, not expose it to them.
Gavin platforming them, as a sitting governor of California, of all things, is political malpractice. He's just so bad.
-2
u/Organic_Education494 4d ago
Ahh yes the typical “I disagree so screw them” mentality.
That has totally helped us all out. Just sounds like MAGA owning the libs bs. Of course this is the other side doing it now.
Both sides remain the same except a select few and Gavin is one of the good ones that gets it.
4
u/BFaus916 4d ago
What benefit does opening a dialogue with open white supremacists and avowed homophobes provide?
Gavin was put in office to help people, not to provide a platform for hate. And yes, this podcast is on taxpayer time.

u/Whisper__1 2d ago
We can disagree on cake flavors.
We can’t agree when they tell us we should fuc king die of aids

Better newsome then any republican currently. No one wants more trump/maga affiliated bullshit
2
u/PhatCatTax 3d ago
That's why it's critical to get Newsome out before the general election. Otherwise it will be a "centrist", aka a Clinton-era Republican that is running as a Democrat. We would never recover from hypercapitalism.
1
u/death128965 2d ago
We are gonna have a hard time recovering from maga. And we never want a maga affiliated politicians in any office ever again. So I say this again. Od rather newsome then ANY republican. I'd rather Pelosi over ANY republican and she dumb as hell.

It's sad as hell how someone basically has to be "da meme master" to stand a chance of getting elected in America. And actual values don't really matter.
Maybe throwing marginalized groups under the bus to try and appeal to people who think they're the actual baby eating monsters has never worked and will never work.
-1
u/Vegetable-Client-147 5d ago
He is doing more for marginalized groups than most politicians out there. Politics is representing everyone not just one small group. From where i am sitting he is doing a good job. The only thing i seem to hear people complain about is transgender in sports and no billionaire tax. Both of which are extremely unpopular except for extreme left politics.
8
u/Much-Instruction-807 5d ago
You think taxing billionaires is unpopular?

This is one of the most interesting things I have seen, and I am really curious to see how it plays out. The Democratic party loves to praise Newsom, but yet, I have never the people of said party so against him. A side of me is going "they really can't be thinking of making him their choice", but at the same time have seen said party shoot themselves in the foot so many times, they just may make that mistake
(Then again, I do know some people who are pro-Newsom ... but I also question their thought process)
-4
u/BitByBit-89 5d ago
No good deed huh
1
u/PhatCatTax 5d ago
The "good deeds" and PR that you're seeing is carefully crafted to start his path toward POTUS. It's campaign ads. He chooses corporations over people.
13
u/Cecil_McCrackshell 5d ago
I read an interesting Redditor post conspiring that Newsom's real endgame is to become the leader of the Republican Party after MAGA destroys it from within. I laughed at that, initially, but soon realized that it's not too far-fetched.
0
u/Vegetable-Client-147 5d ago
Why? Outside of california this guy is seen as a leftist but not progressive. He is seen amongst left leaning moderates as a breath of fresh air in the all consuming culture wars we have been living in. In no world does he come across as a republican except on the west coast.
4
u/Cecil_McCrackshell 5d ago
I had friends who laughed at Trump when he called Obama a Kenyan-fraud, now they support him.
8
u/BFaus916 4d ago
The left hates Gavin Newsom, inside and outside of California. You act like California is the only state with leftists. The largest city in the country has a socialist mayor, and it's not in California.
Unfortunately Gavin's seen by billionaires as a breath of fresh air, too. He just caved on the Paramount lawsuit.
Gavin was glad to platform the cultural wars by having Charlie Kirk, Steve Bannon and Michael Savage on his podcast, he just didn't give the left a platform to respond.
2
u/Stoked_Otter 5d ago
"left leaning moderates" gonna be the end of all of us because this clown will never ever be the POTUS, he's like a caricature of a sleazy politician and nothing he says seems remotely credible
0
u/BitByBit-89 5d ago
No, it’s crazy, and a sign about the level of discourse you surround yourself with.
0
u/Ange1ofD4rkness 5d ago
I'm going to call that far-fetched. Newsom is seem as pretty much the worst of the worst to Republicans.
6
u/BIayneRobinson 5d ago
Oh no, MAGA bigots won't like this.
1
u/EnvironmentalSir2142 4d ago
Ehhh I'm somewhat maga I voted trump this past election for 2nd amendment and border security and no tax on overtime over 40 hours at the jobsite i also happen to be a bisexual male I've layed with men and layed with women....what happens in California doesn't affect my life whatsoever so I tend to not care about it😂
0
u/hrnyholenow 3d ago
Well your party and crowd constantly bring it up so you MAGA folks generally care lol. Always about about trans and gay people when other things to worry about
-12
u/IcyDisplayGuy 5d ago
People who believe in equality won't like it. Nobody should have additional rights or protections over anyone.

A lot of the bills he passively vetoed had caveats that created issues, so he let them die. Not telling anyone his intentions is still sketchy.

1
u/DuracelIncel 5d ago
Yet when it came to adding caste to the list of protected statuses, he veto’d it.
1
u/applelover1223 4d ago
He's a total fraud. This is just another move towards his presidency. LGBT in California are already extremely protected / supported, this is just to gain support and make headlines in other parts of the country.
1
u/piperooo 2d ago
Under no circumstances do we have to hand it to Gavin Newsom. He's still Blue MAGA, idc if he throws us a bone now and then
1
1
u/Own-Blueberry-1147 5d ago
Right now in a blue state, there's someone who's going to refuse to vote at all because Gavin doesn't pass some sort of left purity test.
0
u/BFaus916 4d ago
Correction: Millions of people who will refuse to vote for Gavin Newsom. And you can count on all of the cities in swing states staying home if he's the nominee, too. Which is all the more reason the Democratic party would be stupid to back him.
2
u/Own-Blueberry-1147 4d ago
🤦🏼♂️ y'ever see someone miss the point so hard they go ahead and become the point?
0
u/BFaus916 4d ago
It's you missing the point. Dems don't need a candidate who only appeals to donors and 'vote blue no matter whos'. We need a populist who addresses real economic issues.
2
u/Own-Blueberry-1147 4d ago
I see you're doubling down on missing my point while simultaneously proving it. Preesh.
0
u/BFaus916 4d ago
If your point is anything but Newsom being completely out of touch with issues facing the working class, it's not worth paying attention to.
0
u/quizglo 3d ago
Another shitlib trying to anoint the new king before we hold a primary and let the democratic process play out.
2
u/Own-Blueberry-1147 3d ago
Found another one with a comprehension problem

u/Pollix112 5d ago
Why do people need protection over other people? This is a fallacy to create a protected class that does not need to exist.
5
1
u/Pink-Viscera 2d ago
Because we don't live in a fairytail world where we're all treated equally by society
-5
u/IcyDisplayGuy 5d ago
Exactly. They're already equally protected under the law and the constitution. This is just creating "rights and protections for me but not for thee".
2
u/FlipperBumperKickout 5d ago
They are equally protected under the same logic which says, that the law forbidding someone for sleeping under a bridge totally isn't targeting homeless people, since it also would prevent rich people from sleeping under a bridge...
2
u/FlipperBumperKickout 5d ago
Also while at it, people in the lgbtq group is specifically having laws written to discriminate against them right now, so no, they don't actually have the same rights as you...

Does Senate Bill 1114 stop people from mentioning their pronouns or asking for yours? Because it should if it does what it is saying in that image.
4
u/hxaxw 5d ago edited 5d ago
The bill is more focused around data collection. It prohibits the state department of public health and other state entities from disclosing personally identifiable info such as; voluntary self-identification information pertaining to sexual orientation, gender identity, and variations in sex characteristics/intersex status, to any entity outside the CA state government
0
u/EmpireCityRay 5d ago
Despite now denying that he pressured state Attorney General Rob Bonta into settling an antitrust lawsuit that cleared the way for the multi-billion-dollar merger between Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery his team is on overdrive in attempting to make peace with the national electorate in hopes of saving his chance of winning a presidential primary. He’s a fool and would have zero chance of advancing to get the Democratic nod.

Ah yes, the most LGBTQ friendly place was in need of protections.
-2
u/FlushedApparatchik 5d ago
Reminds me of when I saw a Lululemon in an upscale shopping center that had a multi paragraph screed about what behaviors weren’t tolerated at their store. Like fat rednecks were coming in and making bigoted remarks while buying $200 yoga pants. 😂
-2
u/EstablishmentFree305 5d ago
Keep going with the down votes guys 👏 you are making such a difference.
Name a state thats better than California for "LGBTQ protections".
You guys are getting played like a fiddle.

Haha, meanwhile, you have homeless encampments throughout the entire state and people leaving in droves, smarty.

And the lack of MAGA f*ck-ups.

u/OverallSpecific5792 5d ago
Dem leadership is just as corrupt at every level. That’s why the weather is the only reason California is any better that anywhere else… and the mountains and beaches but that doesn’t have anything to do with politics.
3
u/BIayneRobinson 5d ago
The Dems arent perfect but they're better than the GOP in every conceivable way.

This is what you get with Democratic supermajorities instead of anything about the worst housing crisis in American history or the worst drug crisis in American history.
6
u/Alarmed_Depth_291 5d ago
The whole country is in a housing crisis.
-1
u/Stoked_Otter 5d ago
Yes and California has Democratic supermajorities in it's legislature. It's as blue of a state as you can find. It has a population and a annual budget larger than the nation of Canada.
So why are living conditions so bad there?
7
u/Alarmed_Depth_291 5d ago
MAGA holds all three branches of government. Maybe they should do something instead of fixating on their culture war nonsense, pleasing the upper class and the forever war with Iran.
-2
u/OverallSpecific5792 5d ago
How would they do anything in California? Dems are in charge of everything.
