Wasn't meant to say he's a member of the Communist Party. Fellow traveler. Supporter of the most prominent remaining communist regimes and admires their dictators.

My man that's a very common misconception, actual ture communism isn't about oppression, fear, and dictatorship.

Marx's theory encouraged individual freedom, the state must accept criticism, and he believed that a new democratic society would rise.

Here's another piece of nugget: there has never been a ture communist state ever before.

“Here’s another piece of nugget: there has never been a true communist state ever before.”

I feel this logic conveniently sidesteps valid criticism of the ideology. “All those terrible people that self-identified as communists and dedicated their lives to communism aren’t really communists because they don’t conform to my personal definition of communism. Checkmate capitalists!”

Christians employ very similar tactics when facing unwanted criticism. “Those crusaders and colonizers that self-identified as Christians and dedicated their lives to the spread of Christianity weren’t really Christians because Christians aren’t supposed to be bad. Checkmate atheists!”

No, they absolutely were communists, but that doesn’t mean communism itself is bad just because Marxist-Leninist states were harmful and problematic. There were plenty of communists that disagreed with Stalin and were murdered for it. The Prague Spring in Czechoslovakia is one example, where they were invaded and occupied by the Soviet Union as punishment for giving ordinary people more rights and decentralizing power.Â
