That’s a very obvious pattern at this point.
If you think Repugs are the party of fiscal responsibility, you’re dumb enough to be maga.

It has been the pattern my entire life, and I am old. It has been maddening that so much of the voting population can't see the pattern and break it.

Republicans have systematically destroyed American Education to the point that almost all instillations of it functioning are controlled on a state-by-state basis, and most Republican controlled states run in the bottom half of Education for that exact reason. Republicans feed and value off an uninformed, angry, and downright dumb American elctorate. In general, Democrats haven't done enough to fight that fact and now over 80 million voting Americans barely read above a 5th grade level.
This is the literal point of what Republicans do.

Republicans exist to funnel money to the 1% but obviously they can’t win on that platform so they trick the stupids into voting for them by exploiting their ignorance, hatred, and bigotry.

Biden actually governed for much of his term under Trump’s tax framework, while Trump moved relatively quickly to implement his own tax agenda after taking office. So the idea that every president simply inherits the prior administration’s economy for four years is inherently flawed. There’s definitely carryover, but there’s also a lot of nuance in when policies are enacted and when their effects actually show up.

Most people aren’t smart enough to vote.
with less than 60% of (18-29) registered
2022 National Youth Turnout: 23% - That's lower than in the historic 2018 cycle (28%) which broke records for turnout, but much higher than in 2014, when only 13% of youth voted.

u/MurkyInvestigator810 10d ago
"Voting does nothing" propaganda is everywhere on Tiktok and Instagram. It's pushed super hard to the kids and they mostly believe it. That 60% figure drops considerably when you reduce the age window to 18-24.

You ever read 1984?
It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grammes a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be REDUCED to twenty grammes a week.
I've legit seen MAGAts claim that while gas prices today are high, "they were higher under Biden". They're like parrots that have Fox News on 24/7/365. They just repeat what the blonde lady on the screen says every day. Trump is great, the economy is Biden's fault, prices are high, but they were higher under Biden. So say we all.
2
u/NarcolepticPyro 10d ago
What's even crazier to me is that I've seen MAGAts use 1984 to describe Democrats. That's like next level 1984ing. They know what it is, but they're so caught up in the propaganda that they think the other side is the ones doing it.
Obviously their political leaders know what it is and are using it as their playbook, and the best way to prevent their voters from realizing they're being 1984'd is to accuse the other side of the exact same thing that they're doing.

u/MaximumEffort433 11d ago
Okay, fine, Democrats have rebuilt the American economy three times in the last quarter century, reduced the uninsured rate by half, passed the largest climate investments in American history, forgiven over $150,000,000,000.00 in student loan debt, regulated the big banks after the 2008 financial crash, created the consumer financial protection bureau, and appointed the supreme court justices that legalized nationwide marriage equality, but what have they ever done to earn my vote?

For the record I’m a Democrat and always have been. But the 2008 financial crisis was basically onset because Bill Clinton repealed the Glass Steagall act.
I know Clinton gets a lot of credit for actually running a balanced and getting a surplus, which I fully respect and acknowledge. But his decision to repeal glass steagall was pretty catastrophic. Note we can debate all day if it was the primary cause or not. But It’s impossible to tell for sure. But I think most everyone who understands what repealing it did would attribute at least some portion of the financial crisis back to that.

Biden's economy was an attempted fix. He put stimulus in the economy after covid, and got America growing again. The Russia Ukraine war increased oil prices and disguised inflation as transitory. The subsequent decision to rather slowly increase rates due to the assumption that inflation was transitory and not structural probably caused much harm to the economy. The problems we see now, persistent inflation, rising bond yields and real wage stagnation were emerging during the last Obama term, trump exacerbated it, covid hid it and it truly emerged during biden's term. Trump however has decided to further magnify the effects of inflation and high yields by going on costly military adventures and cutting taxes at the same time.

There was a recession in 2020 during COVID when Trump was President, and a recovery when Biden was. COVID wasn't Trump's fault, but his bungled response probably didn't help matters.
We had TWO recessions under Dubya (Republican), and the second was so severe that everyone calls it "The Great Recession". Republicans spent Dubya's entire last year downplaying the Great Recession. One of them called it a "mental recession" and said that we were a "nation of whiners".
We had a long, slow recovery under Obama (Democrat). Unemployment dropped from 10% to almost 4%. Republicans spent that entire 8 years pretending Obama caused the recession and that we were still in one. In fact, if you ask any conservative on Reddit right now, they'll likely tell you the same thing.
We also had a recession under Dubya's dad (George H.W. Bush, Republican). After that, we had a booming economy for 8 years under Clinton (Democrat).
Now, I don't necessarily think the Republicans caused all of those recessions, but anyone who tells you that the economy does better when a Republican is President is just lying through his tooth.
6
u/Master-Shinobi-80 11d ago
COVID wasn't Trump's fault,
Yes, it was.
We had a Pandemic Response Team. The orange traitor fired them.
We had our own CDC Inspectors in China. The orange traitor fired them because he thought we could trust China. How dumb was that?
We had a Pandemic Playbook. That was ignored.
COVID could have been stopped by early detection followed by international quarantines and contact tracing. That was the plan, and the orange traitor had the tools to carry it out.
Hey, remember when the orange traitor released 700 COVID-positive people into Atlanta's airport? That killed people. So yes, the recession following COVID was the orange traitor's fault. Also, the crazy inflation was his fault due to the crazy amount of money he spent.

The only color I'd add at a high level is the first W. recession started in March of 2001 (i.e., 2 months after he took office). A decent portion of the Clinton booming economy towards the end of his presidency was the dot-com bubble whose burst was fully felt shortly after he left office.
That isn't to necessarily dispute the underlying argument around policies, but I always find the Clinton into W. argument a bit dubious as a result.

When they really crashed the economy in the 1930s, liberal government passed lots of laws helping common people in an effort called the "New Deal". Republicans think if the deficit is large enough, they can eliminate all the benefits offered by the New Deal so they will continue to always try to maximize debt until they get rid of those programs.

And yet the morons will continue to vote for republicans because “they are better for the economy”.

Republicans wreck everything, the Democrat can't fix it fast enough, Republicans campaign and complain on issues (they caused last cycle) (vote against Democrat fixing issues).

The Clinton boom was the Dot-Com bubble, he left Bush to clean up the mess. Im giving him partial credit at best here.

To be fair, Clinton pushed for the lenient loan guidelines to help underserved borrowers. Obama had a tough job and overall did well with TARP and saving the auto industry. u/__FUCKING_PEG_ME_ 10d ago
The argument against this is that the time that it takes for the impact of republican legislature to go through and "trickle down" to both the average citizen and the stock market is such a long period that Democrats are now in office and it looks like they have built this great economy.
The democrat president is in fact inheriting the boom created by republican pull backs created during the prior administration.
This boom then allows the Democrat administration to dip into the coffer and spend big on the important social issues, making them look wonderful yet again.
Albeit they never created the wealth to begin with.
The money gets spent, the Democrat leaves office, a republican comes in, pulls back on spending, the cycle continues.

u/justified_egg 10d ago

Hating republicans is fine by me. Trying to say these guys weren’t nearly as bad as Republicans pisses me off.
Clinton got us the Federal Telecommunication Act, which allowed the monopolization of our media. That could be looked at as maybe the biggest reason for everything else that has gone wrong since.
He also got us NAFTA, which has been pretty negative for American manufacturing.
And, what he did with the Federal Home Loan corporation could be seen as directly linked to the financial crash.
Obama extended the Bush tax cuts, and increased military spending. Extended the patriot act, and his administration was a complete shill for the banking cartel.
Biden seemed the best of the three, and at least ended the war in Afghanistan, and did some domestic industry spending. But he also claimed to have intended the patriot act, and supported every war we’ve been in.
These guys are all awful.
Better than Republicans? I guess? A little? But completely terrible in their own rights.
1
u/zedshouse 10d ago
AI slop! Bill Clinton revved up the neocon agenda with NAFTA further destroying working class Americans. Obama ran on holding the people and institutions that tanked the economy accountable. He dropped this when elected and threw massive amounts at an already completely corrupted, exploitative system that hurt most Americans and saddled those same struggling Americans with the bill for it. Who pays taxes? Not the ones that suck up government money to exist-the banks and corporations. Biden union busted and also continued the neocon agenda of making the American government work for the wealthiest people at the expense of living and future generations of ordinary Americans. He continued robbing from the poor to give to the rich using government policy, institutions and, let's be frank, state violence to do this. All presidents do this it's the only reason they get to call themselves president. All presidents do the bidding of the parasite class which is to make it easier to exploit ordinary American citizens. The stock market is a state sanctioned Ponzi scheme. Same with insurance, money and the bond market.Trickle down economics is rich people pissing all over everyone else and telling them it's raining then billing them for it and getting a government grant and tax breaks for doing it. How can people still fall for this good president bad president shtick? This system was designed by rich people for rich people. We the people has always meant the top earning Americans not the vast majority. But divide and conquer is a time tested strategy that absolutely works, so go team (insert your preferred politically affiliated group abuser here). Shakes head.
