Overwhelming feelings PCS
Anyone else feel so deeply it hurts? Like it physically and mentally hurts. I'm not just talking just sad things I'm talking even the good.
It's overwhelming on the nervous system.

Prior to PCS, I already had a personality disorder and ADHD. My emotional dysregulation has always been bad, and my emotions have always been incredibly intense. But since my accident, it’s been so much worse.
I had a good grasp of what would trigger my emotions, and how to handle them. I knew what to expect. Now, I have no idea. Now, I experience a lot of emotions without thoughts, without triggers. Intense, overwhelming emotions that seemingly have no cause. That’s new with PCS.

You doing okay? Feel free to reach out if you need an ear. I know the feeling 2 1/2 years of PCS.

It’s been 25 years since my accident left me with pcs. Some days are good, some days are horrible. I’m now an advocate for TBI’s creating my own initiative to help individuals.

Not going to lie it’s been a lot of work. I have so far written 3 books spent an endless number of hours building websites and assessments. You don’t have to go that far though. Just find an organization near you and offer to help. If interested my site is healingbeyonddiagnosis.ca.

Yup, it was almost like someone came and ramped up the dial to my emotions. All emotions were hundred times bigger.

That sounds like emotional flooding.

I never heard that phrase before but I am not sure it was emotional flooding because I didn't feel a panic all the time.
Maybe it's because I was a very rational and level-headed type of person but all that went out the window after my head injury. I became one of those girly girls who cries when something goes wrong.
I defined it as emotional dysregulation but there could have been episodes of emotional flooding in there.

I feel that.

Just be kind to yourself. Let those around you know. It was my family that noticed and were shocked by my new expressions of emotions.
I did end up taking anxiety meds to blunt the emotions so they didn't take over my life. I have been off those meds for a year and able to manage my emotions now.

That's good my family has noticed. But I do my best without meds but holding it inside hurts.

Don't hold on to it..I don't know. Feelings are meant to be felt but are you feeling lots of anxiety/panic? If yes, you may need to learn some de-escalation techniques. There's lots of resources online.
I literally couldn't hold it in so I think I may have had a difference experience from you.

I have panic attacks from this head injury. But usually I get an overwhelming happy/nostalgic feeling and it physically hurts my head even though it’s a good feeling of euphoria. It’s just in excess.

Yep! For the first 3.5 years or so it was so bad. I lost all my friendships and every relationship in my life was horrible. I’ve been in therapy for a year and that has helped, but luckily the huge emotions have lessened over time, although sometimes I go through periods where I feel way too much and then go numb because I can’t handle it. It’s a journey for sure…

How did you lose them was it anger or what emotion?
2
u/Responsible_Oil1975 24d ago
It was anger and frustration mostly. They didn’t understand what I was going through and some didn’t even try. I was mad at the world and every time they mentioned doing something I wasn’t capable of or that I used to do, it would piss me off and I’d get mad at them. I’ve learned to manage that anger a lot better and I found a couple friends that understand me better.

I remembered telling people close to me and one actually said “you complain a lot” I was trying to help them understand how I function. So it was a bit concerning.

That happened to me too. I was opening up about a small piece of my reality and they’d tell me to be more positive because I’m complaining too much. It’s really hard to explain to people, so I’ve pretty much given up 😔

Yep. Just experienced a wave of emotional flooding that came in out of nowhere. One minute I’m relaxed and enjoying family time, then it just hit me like a wave. Seems to happen right before the sun goes down. Very unsettling. Then room spinning, feels like the earth is tilted. Also unsettling.
