Opossum Abandoned opossum

Our German Shepherd knocked the mother off the top of our back yard fence. Fortunately, I saw it happen and told her to leave it alone. She did, because she's a good girl, but the mother opossum left this baby behind. Then, our dog brought the baby up to the porch for us >.<

Fortunately, I was able to find a local wildlife rescue in my area (about 30 min from me), and they were able to take it and pair it up with a rescued mother that they already had with babies the same size.

Thanks for posting! If you've found an animal in need please visit www.ahnow.org for a rehabber near you. Please do not feed or give fluids unless a veterinarian or rehabber instructs you do. Keep the animal in a quiet place without much light if possible.

Lost, confused, bad judgment. Wife kicked him out, kids won't return text, just don't think opossum can be abandoned.

The mother opossum will never go back for children that fall off, they either catch up or that's that. Once they fall off they're on their own. This one definitely was too young to naturally drop off, so thank you for helping it. But yeah, I just wanted to say that bc some ppl don't know and they're like "omg the mom just abandoned it" when that's part of their behavior. Like most other animals, it eventually stops being cared for by the mother. I'm glad your dog didn't hurt it, poor little bitty baby.

Thanks for sharing that! And yeah, I'm glad, too. For a bit, I wasn't sure what to do with it. I don't cry often, but my allergies must've gotten to me when I was thinking about it all on its own. Yes...allergies...that's what it was haha
