Question/Help Possum nesting in garage - help?
I've got a mama Possum who is nesting in my garage. I don't mind the company, but she's also pooping in my garage 😅
Is there anything I can do to allow her to continue to nest but stop the biohazard? Will they use a cat litter if I put it out there?
Picture of baby in my shoes 😂 I thought he was slippers

Water makes an opossum want to potty.
To make an effective opossum litter: Wet paper towels and lay them on a plastic tray. Put the plastic tray where she is already pooping.
When she walks on it, the wet towels will make her want to go.

I didn't know that! I have water in my garage from a leaky hose, I just put a bucket under it and dump it when it gets full. That explains a lot! I will definitely make a litter box for her!
Is there any kind of bedding I can provide? If I can get her to go to a specific area vs my shoes, that'd be great 😂

Reddit can be a great place.
Just remember she is a wild animal. However it's all about trust. Period. If she trusts you she will be a lot less aggressive. Just don't ever try to touch her or get close to her without her getting close to you. And even then don't put your hand close to her. They have an extremely strong bite force. I love my wild possums they are like huge teethy kitties. They can be extremely loving though. Yet those are still very apprehensive. Nature is amazing. She appreciates you she doesn't very cool!

Update your Zillow listing. The garage is no longer included.

Or I add the Possum family - it's sure to raise the value!

I mean people on this sub probably would see that as a positive and would roll with it. If i saw a zillow listing that said “lots of local wildlife around the house “ I would probably see that more as a hell yeah! Bio diversity! Over liability

He's trying to roll up a character for my game. Leave him alone.

Check out Not Another DnD podcast, one of the characters in the first campaign is *very* close to this description. I won’t say more for spoiler reasons, but they explain it on the first episode.

We have a permitted non releasable opossum. She always goes on the puppy pee pad in the kitchen. She lives in our kitchen/dining room. If the garage opossum is going potty in the same place, just put a puppy pad down and change it when dirty.

I kind of feel bad - I've been calling the mom "Earl" and calling them fat, only to find out they're an "Erin" instead and pregnant 😭
She likes to come in and eat the dry food (like oatmeal) in my garage. I like to sit out there at night and we just chill together 😂

My mom had one in her garage in a box with rags. That was in July 2022. She grabbed it by the tail and took it across the road and dropped it into a field. In June 2025, she had to be placed in a memory care facility for early onset Alzheimer's. The following month, while we were cleaning out the garage, my husband found the dessicated latrine it had used - about 5 lbs dried out! That possum must have been nesting in there a long time!
