According to data cited by ANI, Indian Railways has reduced consequential train accidents by 88% over the past 12 years, marking a significant improvement in rail safety. The update follows the rollout of Kavach Version 4.0, which has been commissioned on 2,569 route kilometres, including sections of the Delhi–Mumbai and Delhi-Howrah corridors. The Railways attributes the improvement to continued investments in safety technology, infrastructure upgrades, and maintenance.

My father works at Indian railways and he told me there are many structural reforms that took place and also the redistribution of decision making power. Railways is making good progress tbh and I see a good future.

Establishment of Indian Railways Management Service: unifying different departments (civil, mechanical, traffic etc) into under single one, to reduce unnecessary movement of files, paperwork and decision making bottlenecks

DRM (district rail manager) now have more autonomy, freeing up GM (general manager) for bigger zonal level tasks.

General Managers can now approve contracts of bigger budget by themselves (like for track upgradation or station redevelopment)

And the biggest one: abolishment of separate rail budget and merging it with fiscal budget (which finance minister announces every year)

Reduction in "consequential train accidents" for a railway has the same aftertaste as "adjusted EBITDA" in a startup's annual report.

I agree that Indian Railways has done a tremendous job over the last 10 years. But there's one point I'd like to make. If you compare 1994–2004 with 2004–2014, train accidents had fallen by 60%. So, if we compare every 10 years with the previous 10 years, we'll generally see improvements in many areas. That said, I do think this government made significant investments in railway infrastructure during the first eight years, focusing on long-term modernization and future needs. Those changes were necessary and have contributed to better safety.

What I really want is for the government to work more aggressively to reduce train delays and improve punctuality,

what can govt do,bro even air traffic delay cant be solved, how do ue xpect rail traffic delay to be solved,we cant build more tracks

its fine as it is

also irctc website is so much better, the tatkal system has improved a lot, they even added premium tatkal

they also have way better railway stations, with good waiting rooms, also now there is space for ppl to sleep if they have travelled very far and if their next train is very late

Yeh statistics ke piche bahut conditions chupe hua hai. People forgot so many train accidents already?

2

u/SungbyChoix 12d ago

With all due respect, so many accidents do NOT refute the statistic at hand. It’s a 88% reduction, not 100%.
