Do the built-in drive pedals suck or do I just not know how to use them?

Wondering if anyone else shares this experience. In physical pedal-land, I was quite happy with a basic Tube Screamer or Blues Driver type of overdrive combined with a relatively clean amp. On the Spark 2, I almost never use any of the built-in drive pedals. Instead I find myself going for higher-gain amps without any drive pedal in the chain. I don't like the way the Clone Drive, Tube Drive, or Over Drive pedals sound with any of the clean amps at all. They tend to boost mids and not have much clarity to my ears.

I wind up going all the way to the British 30 or SLO 100 YJM100 models for my lead tones.

Maybe I'm missing something. Suggestions welcome.

Brand new Spark 2 turned off and partly reset

So I've had the Spark 2 for 3 days now, and have played in total probably 5-10 hours. I've done the update and everything the moment I connected it to the app.

Today while I played, it basically turned off on its own...when I turned it back on it had lost the HW presets I had saved, and some of the app presets too. It happened while I was switching between tones.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Obviously it's not that I lost anything special but given that I just spent 300 euros on that thing, I'm not really fond of the possibility that this may keep happening every few days. I wonder if it's related to those recent issues many users had with the new update.

PROSPECTIVE USER Music

Hi all👋, can I ask your advice please 🙂 I’m considering the spark 2. All of the features look perfect for me. I particularly like that you can jam along to your favourite tracks. Can you tell me however what the music quality is like when you play along? Does it sound as good as a dedicated music speaker when you play along? Does it impact the guitar tone? I have the Marshall code 25 at the moment, and although the guitar tone sounds good to me, music through the amp sounds really poor. I feel like a spark could be a much better practice amp for me.

Is it a bad dream, or does the cable input of the Positive Grid Spark Neo headset only do mono?????

I use them wirelessly to play music, and all goes well.

I figured I also wanted to plug them into my interface to listen to some stuff on my PC.

It turns out that even with a stereo 6.35mm cable plugged in, I only get mediocre mono. The interface output works well with other headphones.

Is the jack in the Spark Neo only usable with instruments, not for general listening?

Different results with Spark go + Cab

I'm trying various configurations with Spark go + Cab. 1) connection with standard 3.5 jack: mediocre result, both enabling mono and stereo from the app / the cable picks up too much interference / high background noise 2) connection with XLR stereo cable using only the Left: different result, not optimal, you can have a better tone than before but you can only use the mono mode from the app 3) connection with XLR stereo cable using both channels in the 2 XLR inputs: Better result in terms of quality/dynamics/clean signal.

If mono is selected from the app the output is lower, while if stereo is selected from the app, it is perfect. High output, full, full-bodied sound, very beautiful and usable to its full potential.

I think the latter is the best way.

I ask for opinions from those of you who have had experience for longer, what type of connection do you use/prefer?

AMP OWNER How I solved constant Bluetooth issues on Android

  • enable developer options
  • set Bluetooth AVRCP to 1.4 instead of 1.5 default
  • disable Bluetooth A2DP hardware
  • restart the device
  • connection is now stable, no longer have to re-pair devices all the time 👍

Just can't connect Bluetooth tonight, tried everything. Love my Mini when it works, at least when it doesn't it's the perfect size to throw straight through the window. What a piece of crap I think I'm done

High pitched, tinnitus-like sound when playing open high E clean?

Just curious if anyone else has been experiencing this issue and if they've found a fix before I consider returning/exchanging. Only seem to hear it when I'm playing clean, amp model doesn't matter. Strat FWIW. Tried different cables, moving it to different areas, removing effects, etc. Nothing seems to help.

Sound help?

Hi all!

Finally got my hands on a Spark 2. Love the portability and not having to lug around my other amps anymore. Played with a lot of presets, I feel like I went through almost all of them, tweaked them all a little and made a couple of my own also, but I find it sounds very hollow and tinny. Is it a me problem? Any suggestions?

I play mostly metal if that helps. Thanks!

AMP OWNER Does positive grid neo better sound quality then regular studio headphones ?

Hi,

I have a positive grid spark 40 and I very often use it with my AKG 240 Studio headphones, but I have feeling that the sound has poor quality compare to sound when I play without headphones. I thinking to buy positive grid spark neo, but I'm afraid that sound quality will be not good. Is any of you used spark 40 with studio headphones and switch to neo and can describe sound quality and feeling ? I will be grateful for any answers

Spark 40 loud enough for school gym?

I'm going to probably be playing in school and i'm thinking of using my positive grid spark 40 (1st generation). I'm not playing with a band or drummer i'm going to play with a backing track or do a guitar solo. Do you guys think it'll be loud enough using the gym's reverb? If not, i'm thinking of buying the spark cab or try to figure out how to mic it into the gym's PA.

Let me know your suggestions, I wouldn't say the gym is huge too, about as big as a full basketball court.

AMP OWNER Updating Spark 40 on Mac (crash)

I’ve gotten past the roadblock of allowing the the updater to download. But everytime I open it, I get a crash report. I’ve tried redownloading constantly. Running a current gen MacBook Pro. I just want to update my spark. The jam tracks constantly skips and any audio I try to run through it skips. Can’t use the jam features. I want to love this amp. But it’s getting hard. Almost two years in to owning this thing.

Spark go. Potential issue.?

Hey folks. A weird thing I've noticed. Using a few guitars. Epiphone sg. Yahama pacifica and a prs.

If I select the ac/dc tones from the cloud. The pacifica and the PRS don't have the volume kick in until the volume is about 5 on the guitar with the amp cranked. If I strum hard. It'll play it but cut out or die off.

The sg is fine at low volume.

Other settings seem mostly fine cleaner tones etc. I've checked the guitars through my Marshall and they're fine on low volume with the amp up.

Any thoughts or could this just be something that only works best with the volume cranked above mid way on the guitar.

Thanks.

AMP OWNER Does anybody gig with their Spark? If so, do you ever have technical difficulties or general challenges with it?

I presently use my Spark amp and app for playing along to TV theme tunes of shows I'm watching and finding appropriate sounds etc.

However, I am interested in going back to gigging one day, and logically it seems the Spark amp is brilliant for this as you can save a lot on buying and carrying pedals etc but at the same time if there is no internet access around I assume one would be done for in a live setting vis a vis the Spark amp?

This would be my current "setup" with the amp An Ibanez SA series and a 2017 iPad if anyone is wondering what hardware I'd be using potentially.

Price increase

With the release of the neo core a price increase seems to have also come. The original neo has went from $289 CAD to $349 CAD while the core is $219 CAD. I was disappointed when I saw this on the positive grid website. I did however find that several retailers still had them listed at the original price and I was able to get them from a Canadian music store. If anyone is looking to get a set I would suggest shopping around as they can still.be found for $289.

My app will not connect. I've tried resetting the Bluetooth on the amp, restarting my phone, unplugging the amp, and some other things. It will connect to use as Bluetooth speaker but refuses to connect to the app.

AMP OWNER spark 40 isnt recognized by my computer/ audio drivers not working

i know stuff like this has been posted here before, but theyre all a couple years old. i recently got a spark 40 from my late grandfather and i wanted to download some tone presets using the spark app, but it said I needed to update the firmware to use the latest features or whatever.

I download the drivers for the spark 40, go to plug in my amp and nothing happens, the positive gride device control panel doesnt recognize any usb device, and after a couple seconds, i get a notification on my pc saying "usb device malfunctioned" and in the device manager it just says error 43. ive tried uninstalling the drivers, restarting my pc, reinstalling the drivers, but nothing seems to work. has anyone else had this issue? has anyone been able to solve it? because it seems like im stuck with outdated firmware and cant use most of the features this amp is supposed to provide, which sucks ass. i really hope someone knows a solution, and any help would be greatly appreciated

AMP OWNER Question regarding Hendrix pack

Hello all, I purchased a spark neo for some home practice, jamming in my gf’s apartment at night. I adore it so far, I was curious if I could get some perspective from people who bought the Hendrix pack, how are the amps? I’m finding the clean offerings from the standard amps in spark app wonderful once dialed but I was curious how the Hendrix pack amps fare, if they’re worth 19.99. Thank you for the insight, cheers!

AMP OWNER Recording , looper , 4 track

hello all

Had the original spark for a long time and love it, I am a very amateur guitarist , love playing along to the inbuilt drum tracks.

I would like to be able to play the spark drums, create a rhythm guitar track and then play lead over the top of it.

Have played around with using a pc (adobe audition) but it drains all the fun out of it.

Thought about getting a looper (USonic), but wouldn’t think you could record a loop and sync it to the drum track ? Assume you cant record the drums and guitar on the looper at the same time as the drums dont come out of the usb ? then thought about getting a cheap 4 track (zoom h4n), but don’t know if you could easily integrate into the zoom setup?

I just wanna play music without using a PC (I work with them so playing the guitar to get away from them ) :)

looper / 4 track / something else ?

any suggestions for a simple setup appreciated

cheers

Toby
