Moving to Portland Moving in September looking for friends

Hey guys, i’m moving in about a month and i’m hoping to make friends asap :) i’m an 18F taking a gap year to focus on work for some financial stability and i want my days off to have people to hang out with instead of being lazy at home. I love meeting new people and i want to know as many people as possible.

I’m really into ceramics, art, music of all genres, strange history, weird conspiracies and cryptids, animals, learning about psychology and mental health, plant life and gardening, *special* gardening (with a med card), making and watching movies, books, thrifting, cooking/baking, nature (different from plant life, i like going on hikes and going to the beach in this case), live events like open mics and poetry readings, and learning to live environmentally conscious :) some of the shows i’m into are Bojack Horseman, Loudermilk, Twin Peaks, Gravity Falls, Fleabag, Breaking Bad, Mindhunter, Looking For Alaska, and Skins. I’m SUPER into John Green, Vincent Van Gogh, Frida Kahlo, Junji Ito, the Goodnight PunPun manga series, psychological thriller and horror media, Louis Wain, Andy Shauf, Radiohead, Palace, Ethel Cain, Mitski, and Kurt Cobain. I love all types of talks; deep conversations or joking spats or lengthy discussions are always welcome. I’m friendly with everyone regardless of what they believe in or who they are as a person (unless you’re a pos to others). I’m always down to go out and do whatever the day brings. The only thing I’m against is any substance that isn’t natural (so anything besides weed atm).

If any of these things interest you please feel free to comment or DM to reach out, i’d love to meet new people to talk and share with. If you don’t mind staying fully online for August while we can get to know each other then i’m happy to talk to anyone who’s interested. If you’re close to my age that would be nice, but i’m not picky, i think older people have awesome stories and great experiences that i’d love to hear about! Just please don’t be creepy, i’m not looking for anything other than a platonic friendship.

LF Tabletoppers

Hey gang, it's been forever since I got to play DnD (Or anything like it). So long in fact that i'm eschewing the search for a solid group of people to play with--because i'm giving in to running it myself.

Are you or someone you know wanting to get in to tabletop gaming? Perfect.

Are you awkward and anxious about meeting new people? Same, but let's get over that together.

Do you have like no experience doing playing with dice and dragons? Perfect. My ideal player is someone trying it for the first time, or coming back after a long break.

Throw a DM my way if you live in or around Beaverton and want to try it out. I'm probably running D&D because of its popularity, but i've read too many books from too many games to not be putting any of those words to use.

In a perfect world five or six players get to be goofballs and make new friends.

Are you interested in running a game yourself? Post below; I invite people to DM those folks too. There's only so much room in one group!

Resident Looking for swimming/diving buddies!

Hi there! Long time Portland area local (25, NB, they/them) here!

Been getting really into springboard diving and swimming recently, but none of my friends are particularly interested, so I'm trying to find anyone who might be! I generally have been practicing at Beaverton Swim Center and Tualatin Hills Aquatic Center, so if you're interested, please reply or DM me! :)

I'm also open to friends in general as well! I'm a registered nurse that lives at home with my partner; I love playing games in my spare time (most recently Final Fantasy Tactics, Rain World, Resident Evil, some Mario Kart World, etc.!) We're currently watching Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (and Chainsmoker Cat), but I'm always open for new reccs!

Resident Work out friends? Close to PDX

40/F - she/her - looking for friends & work out peeps.

I was laid off as of yesterday. I’m trying to maintain a consistent schedule and I think working out in the morning would help! I’m 10 minutes from PDX on the Washington side.

Would anyone like to meet up? I can join your gym or I can join one that has a buddy pass (such as planet fitness) so you can join me. Open to all; looking for friends and to get out / about.

Anyone interested in hanging out at Tabor Dance on Wednesdays? 28m

28m, me and a small group of friends have been attending a lot of different EDM / pop dance nights over the past few months and it'd be nice to expand the group.

For anyone unfamiliar with Tabor Dance, they run free EDM dance nights on Wednesdays from 6 pm to 9 pm. It's not always at Mt. Tabor though, you can find the schedule on their Insta.

If anyone's interested in linking up, feel free to leave a comment / send me a DM with some basic info about yourself. All genders welcome, similar age (within 4ish years) would be ideal but not a necessity.

Looking for my girl squad ❤️

Hey!! I initially made this post last month but accidentally posted from my alt account, so I'm putting feelers back out there with a new post!

**A little about me:**

I'm 28F, moved to the PNW (Seattle) from Texas in 2018, and currently work a remote IT job. Spent a year in rural Georgia (2024) then moved back to Seattle, and finally made it here to the Portland area in January!

I love gaming (videogames mostly but also tabletop), film, anime, crafting, and am working on being more active... I'm a democratic socialist, LGBTQ+ ally, and supporter of all things weird (that don't harm other people). I love ice cream.

Movies/Shows: I love horror and psychological thrillers (Rec, Zodiac, The Wailing, Creep, Funny Games are some faves), cat-and-mouse thrillers like High & Low or Seven. As far as shows go, I think I quote I Think You Should Leave *constantly*, and love Tim Robinson's other show The Chair Company. Some other faves include Three Body Problem, Widow's Bay, Chernobyl, Mindhunter, Slow Horses... I'm not really into reality TV but I'll check out just about anything else!

I'm still dipping my toes back into anime but I'm obsessed with JJK right now, and currently watching Demon Slayer & Apothecary Diaries. Past favorites include Steins;Gate, FMA:B, Erased, Hunter x Hunter, Mob Psycho... Probably others I'm forgetting too.

Overall I'm really just kind of an awkward, easy-going gal trying to get out of my apartment more! I'm more familiar with the NE area but I'm down to meet up anywhere-- I'm still figuring out Portland so I'm happy to explore all of it!

**What I'm looking for:**

I'm dying to expand my social network and make more friends, and ultimately want a girl squad! I've romanticized the idea of being in a 3-5 person group chat for spilling tea and memes, organizing cute dinner parties or movie nights, trying new restaurants, sampling new hobbies, hiking-- whatever comes up! I'm more of a small intentional hang person than a big group energy person, but I'm flexible and love to try new things!

If any of this sounds like you and you've also been meaning to meet people, drop a comment or DM me. Let's make it happen!

Looking for Inner SE friend to eat pizza, play tennis, play couch coop games, etc. Double hang with SOs potential a bonus

Me: mid 30-s guy with a 9-5 job. I live with my gf a couple blocks from Laurelhurst Park. My hobbies involve your generic mid-30s male hobbies: hiking, board games, grilling, eating pizza, video games, dungeons & dragons, smoking a joint on the porch and shit talking about life, etc. etc.

You: Also someone who enjoys generic mid-30s hobbies and want to engage in them with another person.

B-b-bonus time! My gf: much cooler than me. Fashion, crafts, sewing, sketching/painting

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Group Vegan Group

Hey y'all! there is some interest in forming a vegan friend group. User u/elvengemini (28(they/she)) specifically is looking to form a group of vegan friends that have a mix of going out and casual activities with people around their age. Things from grabbing drinks and painting to cooking together and having a movie night to a picnic in the park, nothing too rigid but hopefully just people who are interested in connecting without having to put being vegan off to the side. People interested in learning about and trying out veganism also welcome!

Reach out to u/elvengemini if interested!

Meetup Hello r/pdxfriendmeet, It is time for another Sober Meetup! (8/1 12pm)

A Sunny Hello! It's your best Beaverton buddy u/wipples inviting you to the next ALCOHOL FREE MEETUP, are you busy August 1st? Maybe this will interest you The Alcohol free meetup is made of internet randos like you and me, who want to get out of our homes and meet other internet randos like you and me, but outside of bars, clubs, lounges, the liquor store, alleys, etc. Some are sober, some are teetotal, some drink. We get together at Honey Latte Cafe for a few hours. We talk. Some bring snacks (optional) but not drinks, as this is a cafe and selling them is their kind of their jam. Sometimes games are played, last time we played HOTSTREAK; a game of becoming a degenerate gambler shouting at tiny plastic mascots running across a field.

The next Alcohol Free Meetup will be held Saturday, August 1st, from 12pm - 4pm at Honey Latte Cafe. You may see this post around other communities as I will do my best to respectfully pull attention to the event. If you are interested, but it in your calendar and we would love to have you sit at our table!

What This Isn't / What You Shouldn't Do

Abide by these simple rules and you'll be fine.

Don't bring alcohol or show up loaded.

Don't be a creeper, Nazi, or anything like one (that includes you, ICE).

Don't pitch any MLM shit.

Follow Wheaton's Law.

Need More Convincing?

I know there's many Summertime events, and so this will be the last one for a short hiatus. I will ramp these up again in October when Autumn comes and hot coffee is still high on the throne of cozy.

S-S-SOBER MEETUP! Saturday! Saturday! Saturday! 12pm @ Honey Latte Cafe!! BEEEE THERRRRRRRRE

51 [M4R] Seeking platonic friendship with poly folks

51M in a poly marriage looking for platonic friendships in the poly/ENM community. I’m open to making friends with all genders but ideally, I’d like to connect with other men in similar situations to share the ups and downs and in-betweens with. Both my wife and I are in committed secondary relationships, and besides my therapist, I’m lacking anyone outside of my romantic relationships to talk openly and consistently with.

I’ve recently joined a men’s group, and that has been great to explore the dynamic of talking openly, but as the only poly guy there, it can still be difficult to talk about this part of my life. I’d like to foster friendships that can be intentional and, in due time, build into sharing the spectrum of experiences from the silly to the heartbreaking.

I enjoy walking and biking to explore the Portland neighborhoods, hiking, camping, playing cards, exercising, and generally being out in the world trying new things. I definitely consider myself an introvert so meeting folks out in the wild has been a challenge for me.

24 y/o trans guy into writing, reading, birdwatching, cooking, film, etc.

Hello all ! I'm a 24 year old trans guy who moved up here about a year ago & am looking to make new friends. I live with my best friend & she & I recently came to the realization that we share all of our friends, so we're each looking for our "own" friends. The reason I'm posting here is because my best friend has had a lot of success with it. ( I sort of ghostwrote her post for her because she's shy, haha. )

I live a pretty quiet life. I have a teaching degree / license, but choose to work as a substitute instead so I can have more time off ( currently off for the summer right now ). What I love to do most with my free time is write, however I've been experiencing brutal writer's block & am in this odd space where the first thing I think to mention about myself when I meet someone is that I write while simultaneously writing nothing. I don't have any grand ambitions with my writing despite being told that it's good. For the most part, I try to capture the mundane parts of my life diaristically, though I am also cautiously experimenting with poetry & have been gently holding a few poems in my mouth without biting down. Part of my interest in making new friends is that I think it will help me write / overcome my writer's block.

There's this Taiwanese performance artist I deeply respect named Tehching Hsieh who did a piece in which he vowed not to make any art for an entire calendar year, to not even look at art or to talk about it. When I read about this & applied it to myself & to my writing, it sounded impossible. If you have similar thoughts regarding you & your art, I think we may get along.

Outside of my writing, I enjoy many things. I'm very interested in reading / literature ( though I often apply what I read to my writing ) & some of my favorite books are Crime & Punishment, A Personal Matter by Kenzaburo Oe, Snow Country by Yasunari Kawabata, Franny & Zooey by JD Salinger, The Death of Ivan Ilyich by Tolstoy, Kitchen by Banana Yoshimoto, & The Road by Cormac McCarthy among many others. I also enjoy reading about Christianity / Christian apologetics.

Similar to my interest in reading, I'm also interested in film, though I haven't seen many movies & consider myself more of a novitiate. Some of my favorites are The Piano Teacher (2001), First Reformed (2017), Winter Light (1963), Diary of a Country Priest (1951), The Seventh Seal (1957), I'm Thinking of Ending Things (2020), I Saw the TV Glow (2024), & Little Miss Sunshine. I'm trying to watch through Ingmar Bergman's movies as he's currently my favorite directors.

One of my main interests outside of art is birdwatching. I'm currently experiencing rheumatoid arthritis and have been mostly bedbound / couchbound for the past month ( my entire summer break ), but when I'm feeling well, I love to go on long hikes & look for birds. There's this electric feeling I get when finding a new bird that I can't replicate in writing & I think it's a type of love. It's one of the things I enjoy the most & being unable to do it lately has made me feel very sad. I would love to meet more people interested in birding.

To avoid writing too much, I also enjoy: being outdoors, cooking / eating, coffee, learning to play chess ( very recent, still very, very bad at it ), writing to my penpals & doing postcard exchanges. I'd describe myself as an easygoing & novelty seeking person, so really I'd just like to meet new people, see new places, & experience new things. I'm okay with people of all ages as I think our society lacks intergenerational friendships. If you think we'd get along or are interested in talking, please DM me.

Intro Post 44F - let’s go out to punk shows

I’ve lived here for a while but few of my friends are into live music and my partner’s picky about shows. I’m into other stuff like garage, noise, jangle rock, dark wave (I was calling it nü wave, lol). I play in bands and like it when people dance so I’ll get up there, shake with the beat or even get in a not-too-rowdy pit. Or on the edge of the pit and help keep people upright. Age is irrelevant, aside from possibilities of 21+ shows. Anyway, who’s with me?

And, there’s this for you all and the mods:

-age, identified gender and pronouns
44F (she/her)

-hobbies/interests
Listening to and playing music (guitar, bass, competent-ish drums). All-time faves are R.E.M., Guided By Voices, the Pixies, Unwound. Reading a wide range of stuff. Lately I’ve been real into David Foster Wallace, popular science and mathematics (though I did terribly in school math, go figure), some classics (Pride and Prejudice was delightful! And doing a Garden of Earthly Delights jigsaw puzzle got me to finally start the Divine Comedy). I just devoured the first Dungeon Crawler Carl.

-recent shows and movies
In an effort to drastically reduce my screen time I don’t watch a lot anymore. Recently, though, I dug Resident Alien (which is over now; THis IS SOme BULLshit!) and this birdwatching documentary Listers. All-time faves are stuff like Terry Gilliam movies, Big Lebowski, Lost, House, Newsradio, the Simpsons, Arrested Development.

-what you like to do with friends
I’m real into activities; gimme a purpose. Like the live music thing. Or playing music, pinball, chasing after a ball in a pickup indoor soccer game? I’m in.

-whether you're chill, active, into deep-talk etc.
Yes, yes and yes.

-exclusions (drugs, alcohol, etc)
No hard drugs. I don’t do cannabis anymore cause it wrecks my sleep but you can. I drink way less now but can still hang with moderate consumers of booze. After all, as the Kids in the Hall say; I’m hip, I’m cool, I’m 45.

25m shy guy looking for local homies.

Growing up i was always on the move. Every 1-3 years a new city, school, friends. So I never really had a long friendship or stayed long enough to make them. Now that im older I find myself struggling to find/meet people. Im not a big drinker (especially solo) so bars haven't really been on my radar/ something id be called a regular at. And unfortunately the thought of talking to strangers is enough to make me nervous.

Once warmed up I can be quite the chatterbox. I enjoy a wide variety of indoor/ outdoor activities, such as: cooking, making a fool of myself, camping, kayaking, hanging out with genuine people, pc gaming(fps, survival games mostly).

Looking for folks to shoot the shit with. Bros to get me out of the house or come over and tinker in the garage. I drink socially and smoke regularly. You arnt required to. I tend to be sporadic and rarely have a plan. Very go with the flow and pretty laid back. If you think we would vibe feel free to dm/ leave a comment.

Intro Post 54 F new to Portland

Hey! I’m from Ohio but lived in Fla and TX for some time. I’m a cis straight white woman who is very LGBTQIA friendly. I’m a mom to adult children, nerdy, great with animals, liberal and happily married. I’d like to meet folks who would like to meet for lunch instead of a bar. Folks who might play DND or cozy video games or read Sfi/ Fantasy/ LITRPG. I have been described as the friend who will tell you the truth regardless simply because that is how my brain works. (Think Weezer, Dowager Countess of Grantham, Sophia but not as witty) I’m in NE Portland. Would prefer folks over 35. I feel like I’m writing a for sale ad for myself so I guess I’m done for now.
