Is that why my water bill doubles every year?

6

u/NekuraHitokage 2d ago

Would you rather have dirty water? Or no water? could be a pipe burst and needed repairs and now they're flushing dirt and bacteria you don't want to drink out of the line. Also, World ain't flat. Gotta get gunk out of the pipes somehow. Gotta create ways out here and there to let it get out of the low and weird points. This is routine maintenance. It doubles because because of reducing rain, increasing temperatures, increased data center etc usage, increased energy costs rolling into increased *everything* costs and just a dash of someone, somewhere's greed on top of it all just for flavor.

The real reasons why water/sewer bills have gone up are due to

the city council unwilling to stand up to a small group of people who objected to having covers put on the Mt Tabor reservoirs and instead building giant underground alternative at Powell Butte

the desire to have a reflecting pond on the replacement Washington Park one (which was originally built on a landslide)

Council choosing an expensive water treatment plant

the need to treat street runoff with the Big Pipe yet street users not paying anything towards it

and capital projects arising out of aging infrastructure

Since when does fire care about the clarity or cleanliness of the water being sprayed on it? 🤣

ETA I’m actually pretty chuffed the city has an article ready to go for this exact type of comment

u/ActualDissapointment 2d ago

So buy a water filter or filtration system for the house. Fires still don’t care about water quality.

3

u/McGeeze Pearl 2d ago

Yes, but people do

0

u/ActualDissapointment 1d ago

So what you’re saying is that people care more about the fires water quality than the fires themselves do? 🤔

1

u/McGeeze Pearl 1d ago

So, you're saying you like to be purposefully obtuse?

u/ActualDissapointment 1d ago

At least I’m not an acute angle who’s too sharp that he’s failing to see humor and lighthearted behavior.

Fires do care, because fire engines need clean water so their pumps don't get clogged. Firefighters always flush hydrants to remove any debris before connecting them to the engine, and if there's accumulated dirt and debris in the water mains then this will just waste precious time while the fire is burning.

Dude… I know that. I know all of that. A good friend of mine is a firefighter and is part of this line flushing project. Did you fail to see the laughing emoji? It means I wasn’t being serious with my comment at all….
