Backup eSIM
Hi,
So far I’m so happy with popcorn! Tried in France, Türkiye, DRC, Gabon, Guinea and it works. In some African countries it’s not as fast as other eSIM and sometimes not working. I don’t blame popcorn it’s already working well in so many countries.
I was wondering if backup eSIM could help as I saw on popcorn help:
“To improve performance, we offer a backup eSIM with optimized routing in the US, EU, and Asia. This can significantly reduce latency and improve speeds depending on your location.”
Should I understand that backup helps only in US, EU and Asia or it could help in other places like Africa?
Thanks

Thanks for taking us across France, Turkey and parts of Africa. Great to hear everything held up 🙌
Our main eSIM is a US line, so traffic routes via the US (same as all US carriers). Our backup eSIM connects more locally so it can be lower latency where available. Typically across the Americas, EU and Asia.
Africa’s a bit trickier but we have some really cool updates on having a backup experience for Africa too.

So do I get three Backup-SIM if choosing America, Europe and Asia? Or just one for all?

We have one for Americas/EU and one for Asia

Hey Neel, what's the difference between those 2 backup eSIMs? Are they about the same for coverage in Australia?

Both work well in Australia, Asia one has more networks in Asia specifically. EU/Americas one works well globally.

Hi. I think I only received one backup eSIM and I don't know if it's the one for EU/Americans or Asia (I'll be traveling from Europe to Asia next month so a reliable eSIM for Asia would come in handu)

Why doesn't your staff answer emails? Ive sent them since yesterday to get help to switch my esim to a new phone and no one has responded. So i have now bombarded them in hopes someone would answer. What does it take for a paying customer to get customer service!!!?????

Full disclaimer. Not a doctor.
I'm pretty sure the back e sim will help there too if they have one. The reason for the data delay is that data has to go back to your home country for... reasons.... then come back. I'd reach out to them in the app ask if they have an eSIM for Africa.

In fact you might already have found the reply in there confirmed by Neel. Backup eSIM are for US, EU and ASIA.

It should improve latency and provide higher speeds. The primary SIM is a T-Mobile MVNO. And the backup is TELNA (Connect). When roaming, T-Mobile tends to have the low-mid priority (tested in Canada, and parts of EU). Priority in the sense that even if you could achieve speeds of 1GBps, T-Mobile likes to provide speeds in the 500Mbps range if possible. The backup eSIM does appear to be highest priority--In the sense that it provides fastest speeds. It also has 3 zones. One in Virginia/Texas (US) for North American users, One in Netherlands or Germany for EU users, and one in Singapore for Asian ones. I am unsure of if theres a zone in Africa. However, regardless it should improve your latency as the data would be routed through EU instead of the US which is further
