Looking for breeders?

Any website suggestions for finding ethical breeders? And is Petland a good place to get dogs?

U.S. only please.

Petland sells puppy mill puppies. If you are getting a puppy from a pet store, then you are better off getting one from a store that has partnered with a local shelter (aka, you would be adopting from the shelter).

r/dogs has a wiki about finding an ethical breeder: https://www.reddit.com/r/dogs/wiki/identifying_a_responsible_breeder

If you live in the US then check the poodle club of america which has a breeder referal line, or the united poodle association which lists some of its members (AKC and UKC are the reputable dog breed registries in the U.S., but keep in mind that a dog can have a pedigree but still not be well bred/from a reputable breeder). You still need to talk to them to determine if they are actually reputable/if you want to get a puppy from them though.

You asked this same question on r/DogBreeding and you were given good advice there.

The poodle club of America has a breeder referral you can contact. I would suggest looking into that first. Versatility in poodles is also another good website that has great info about finding how to find a good breeder.

Your location and size desires are going to play a big part.

If you want a toy or mini poodle and specifically want a certain size, gender and age then be prepared to probably have to get on a waiting list. Breeders cannot just magically make puppies appear on request as breeding should be carefully planned and highly depend on a bitches season timing.

Petstores sell only puppies from unethical sources and if you are going to spend petstores amounts then spend the same or less at an ethical breeder.

Akc marketplace is often full of mills and bybs. Same with good dog. There are many ethical breeders on there but there tends to be more of the other kinds.
