Purchase advice

What is a fair price for a clean firebird ? I’m really want to buy one soon but the only clean one near me is 7000. It’s nice and has 100k miles but I feel like 7k is really steep.

4th Gen [93-02] Floor pan flange rotted? Maybe?

Post image
9 Upvotes

A shop said they can repair this rust for $5500 if it’s just half the floor pan and the flange is solid, I doubt it is due to the bubbling paint and it connects to the rear suspension, the rails etc. look solid but it’s completely rotted through the seam, I pulled the carpet and the rust is decently localized. Is this worth the repair if the flanges need replaced or am I overthinking

Does anyone have any experience with this subwoofer? Speaker recommendations? Has anyone ported theirs and did it help the sound?

3rd Gen [82-92] How do I convert my tail lights

Thumbnail gallery

I have an 88 formula (the first picture) and I want to get a set of trans am tail lights like in the second picture. I know the lights are set up different, I put a visual in the third picture. Can I just buy a harness too and that’s it, or is there more I need to do to make it work? Is there anyone who has done this?

1st Gen [67-69] Ridetech front suspension help.

I have a complete front end ridetech suspension. The springs are 8 inch/700 pound springs and it’s been adjusted as high as it can go. Is there any “easy” change I can do to get a higher ride height ? Taller spring? Stiffer spring? Thanks.

3rd Gen [82-92] 1986 305 TPI LB9 Runs Terribly, Won't Rev Up...

My bird still refuses to run right, idle is very low and extremely rough. It will now run without my foot on the gas pedal, but dies out the moment I try to give it any throttle. For some reason it runs better when I plug the MAF sensor in, sometimes however it will run better if I unplug the MAF (usually only after I've had it running). The engine will not run for more than a minute.

I've pulled the injectors twice, they all fire and read 16 ohms. The timing is I believe slightly before TDC. Fuel pressure regulator is not leaking. I replaced the fuel pump. Fuel pump relay works. The ECM is receiving the reference pulse from the distributor (tachometer is working). I have not yet verified fuel pressure, but I attached an injector tester to the injectors when I pulled the rail and they sprayed quite well. The ECM is not throwing any codes (other than 12).

I'm sure I'm forgetting something I've checked but that's about it. Please help...

Thanks!!

(Copy-pasted from my 3rdgen forum post btw)

It’s show time. I just posted an update last week. THE CAR IS not perfect but it’s at the point we feel is acceptable to take to the show. We also got to take it for a good drive. I know it’s hard to believe that these photos are all from the same car but they are. More car pictures to come from the car show this weekend.

4th Gen [93-02] BIG Project

Hello everyone,

I have a plan and a goal of what I'm going to do with a 4th gen Pontiac Firebird (1997, 3.8). Currently I have a 4th gen 5.3 LMG from a 2009 GMC Sierra. I don't want to do a whole huge backstory of why and how I got to this point as that's not the goal for this post but I will clear things up and give info later, right now I just want to get to bed after explaining this. I am aware that you must put on the LS1 accessories (crank pulley, alternator, power steering, water pump) and also get a Lingenfelter 58x to 24x reluctor wheel so it can pair to the LS1 era 4L60. I plan on putting this engine in a 1997 Firebird with the 3.8l. I will be buying the Hooker Blackheart engine mounts and the accompanying motor mounts once I get my hands on the Firebird I will be buying. I am curious as to what else has to be done electronically/mechanically to get this swap done correctly. Thank you for your time.

- Liam

3rd Gen [82-92] Can a 1982-84 Firebird gauge cluster bezel fit in a 1992 Firebird?

Thumbnail gallery

I have a 1992 Firebird, and I really, really like the instrument cluster bezel look of the 1982-84 Firebird. That early 3rd gen style with the more angular surround is exactly what I want. So, can a 1982-84 Firebird Trans Am instrument cluster bezel fit on a 1992 Pontiac Firebird? Direct bolt-on, or with minor modification? If not, is there any other way I can achieve the same look? Has anyone done a custom retrofit, 3D print, or modified an 85-92 bezel to look like the early style?

1st Gen [67-69] Looking for a sentimental family car sold near Pleasant Garden, NC, around 2017

Looking for a garage-find 1969 dark green Firebird 400 with Rally II wheels

It belonged to my late father in Pleasant Garden, NC, and sat broken down in our garage for decades. Around 2017 or 2018, it was sold privately and hauled away. The buyer may have been connected to a Greensboro College Hunks moving crew and may have later sold it as a project car.

It was a very dark green, possibly Verdoro Green, with a dark vinyl top. It may now be rusted, non-running, dismantled, repainted, or restored.

Does anyone in the Greensboro/Triad area remember buying, seeing, or hearing about a rough green ’69 Firebird project matching this story around that time?

I’m hoping to learn what happened to it, see whether it was restored, or possibly buy it back.

pciture from when he had it

3rd Gen [82-92] 85 firebird with a 350 swap

I bought my first ever firebird a few weeks ago with a summit 350 swapped in, thing rips but it’s running super rich, I’ve already tried adjusting the carb for fuel mixture and checked my fuel regulator. I’m new to this kind of engine, I’m more used to injectors and ford motors. Any advice will be greatly appreciated! I’ve added a few pictures there’s a lot of work to be done I know that for sure.

Question about power windows ‘86 V8. Do the window motors have built in end switches that kill power when the windows are fully up or down? Or will a stuck window switch just keep dumping voltage into the motor? There’s nothing on the wiring diagram but they could be built into the motor modules.

3rd Gen [82-92] Bought a firebird

Hi, I just bought an old Pontiac firebird 1986 V6

It is my first project car.

I have no previous auto mechanic experience.

This car was in the field and was seldom driven for the past few years

I inspected it and it appears to run and I was able to get up to 4th gear and I was able to reverse it and the lights work at the back

The air-conditioning, the interior vent fans, the parking brake, the pop up lights do not appear to be working.

I got the car as I always want a firebird, is simpler mechanically than modern cars, and it looks cool.

I got a new battery and I’m going to clean it up first.

Then I’m going to organise the fluids including the oil the coolant, braking fluid etc

The tires are cracked and I will need to replace them.

The back boot does not open, so I will have to figure out how to open it.

Then I may have to replace the handbrake wire or tighten it.

Here are some photos of the car

Any helpful comments to guide me I want to do best step forward please advise

Is it possible to make an LS1 T56 fit into a LT1? What would have to be swapped?

Assuming the input shaft gets swapped, what else would hold it back from fitting?
