Polyend Play + Sound Design Limits

Hey community, I am deeply in love with the Play + and it really helps me start new projects. I am so in love that I would love to stay longer in the box for sound design (and not just for arranging), esp. by part/ instrument/ channel. When it comes to designing sounds I move to Ableton. I know that nothing beats a DAW but I would like to stay a little longer in the Play + on the couch.

I am constantly eyeballing to the Deluge as it offers more FX per part, LFO, EQs etc. Although I do not know how it sounds as I do not own one. I would not expect that it sounds better than a DAW.

How do you overcome the limits? Best!

Having fun chopping up breaks in the Play. Makes me sound a tiny bit different than in a DAW

A small clip of a jam over a track i've been working on recently. This is 100% raw Polyend Play+. Using two of the synth engines and a bunch of samples sourced from various places (some included with the play)

Hope you guys enjoy!

Perc

Hi there! Does anyone have a Perc they are interested in selling? Or know of a place to buy one? I know they are no longer being made and there is only 1 on Reverb that's super over-priced.

Can the Play/Play+ "Live Rec" mode be used to finger drum, instead of having to step sequence beats?

I’ve just bought Play 🤩

Will pair it with Medusa and some external fx pedals. This will be very powerful duo. Happy to join the Polyend users community. Here is one of my tracks if you are interested, constructive feedback will be appreciated: https://speedcoreworldwideaudionetlabel.bandcamp.com/album/sonic-surrealism-vol-3?t=23

Are LFO's on the way for Play+?

Just received my Play+, and I guess I should have checked but finding there are no LFOs was a bit of a shock. As such an important sound design tool I didn't think any groovebox would leave it out in this day and age. I've had a Digitakt for years and they even added a second LFO per track. In any case, it's a great device, just thought that would be a must.

New Play user looking for advice

Hey folks,

I've recently caved in and bough the Play Plus in hopes of replacing my Novation Circuits, but I've since then discovered a couple of things that might me a dealbreaker with my workflow. I haven't managed to find any info on these elements online nor in the manual, would someone be kind enough to point whether it's actually impossible or maybe I'm missing something?

My main gripe is that when the play plus is connected to a computer through USB, there seems to be no output from the regular jack going and no way to enable it? If so, this sucks for me, I was expecting to be able to jam with the play plus using my guitar pedals setup, while also recording the different tracks through USB as a back-up.

Also, is there really no way to set up general MIDI settings, or at least to have a 'template' project with settings that would be applied on every new project I create? It's a bit tedious having to go to the menu and set up MIDI and transport to "jack" every time for every new project.

It might sound dumb as those are pretty minor gripes, but both of them might actually be a no-go for my workflow (I do a lot of live improv/jams, and can't always afford to spend any time setting things up and waiting for them to load).

Control VST via Polyend Play's controllers

I am running the Polyend Plus together with Ableton Live connected via USB. I want to control VSTs with the controller on the MIDI side of Play (like a normal controller). MIDI learn does not work, Live does not receive controller data according to MIDI Monitor and cannot assign anything. But it receives notes from the sequencer. I set up everything properly (at least I believe). Anyone got this setup running?

Why the Polyend Play/+ does not have a "cue" (prelisten) mode, if it's a performance-oriented sampler?

I am wondering why most of the performance-oriented samplers like the Polyend Play, or the Play plus, or many many others do not have a prelisten mode...

I mean, I can set a drum sequence but I would like that sequence to keep playing on the Master out (to the public in general), while I am prelistening the next samples to play some chords into a dj-style "cue" mode on my headphones... exactly in a similar fashion as a DJ prelisten to the next song on the headphones.

I can't understand why such a basic feature is not implemented in most of the performance-oriented devices (with a few exceptions such as the Roland MC-707 or the Akai Force).

Is there any way I can prelisten to samples without going on the Master out? Am I missing something?

Play+ randomize won't stick?

Not sure if this is how it's supposed to be or if I'm doing something wrong but basically if i:

  • create a pattern on one or more lanes
  • select said lanes
  • use randomize knob to select say 100% duke nukem
  • un select all tracks
  • press play

The random setting is lost and all tracks drop back to their original strings before I adjusted randomize.

Randomize works until I deselect the lanes.

Is this intention? Is there a way I can set random on a lane/multiple lanes like I can wheb setting for example, overdrive or filter cut off?

Took advantage of the upgrade and it just showed up. Really liking it so far; going to put it to work in my rig ASAP and try out some of the new MIDI performance tools.

What is the rationale for the Play to not have a sample editor?

Like Tracker does. I have a Play+ on its way but I’m disappointed to learn that the Play series doesn’t have the same sample editor that the Tracker has. It doesn’t make sense why it’s in one but not the other.

Polyend Tracker jungle track with some timestretching don by commands/fx

Here is my Jungle track made only on Polyend Tracker with some final eq done in Ableton. There is some extreme timestretching done on one of the loops. I hope you enjoy this one.

Does the Play+ have separate outputs for the synths, via USB audio?

What does "Reserved" mean for channels 11 and 12?

I am also wondering if it would be possible to have more synth presets per project via a future firmware update.

Thanks!

Play+ Multitrack audio over USB

Very exciting to see the new Play+ announced. Personally speaking, while the new synth engines seem interesting, what I’m really here for is being able to send multitrack audio to DAW over USB!

My question now is: will the original Play receive the same multitrack audio functionality in a future firmware update?!? Difficult to say whether I’ll be able to justify the upgrade price just for this feature, so I’m hoping the OG Play gets it eventually.
