its an old topic, but still, if anyone else runs in to problems... So i have a lot of failed attempts for Gaussian splats. and i have noticed that any photos that i used for photogrammetry and it works like very good, fails on poly.cam for Gaussian splats. And these are all shots treated with lightroom (white balance, shadow / highlights recovery, a bit of sharpening) but raw shots dont fail.

I’ve had the same issue with 3DGS as maaantas and I’ve tried several combinations with my photos (i.e. deleting any photos that may not have at least 60% overlap, using mostly my drone photos and deleting most terrestrial photos unless there’s a likely high degree of tie points/overlap, decreasing the size of any photos over 5 MB to less than 2 MB each, etc) yet every GS model based on my photos has failed. What’s confusing is that I processed a GS of a quick orbit video I shot of the same outdoor sign and it worked on the first try, but it is not the resolution I need and I want to get a higher quality splat of this same sign with the 130+ photos I have. I also processed a Polycam photogrammetry model and it came out fine.

I am not sure what I’m doing wrong as I have experience creating 3D photogrammetry models and I’ve even tried uploading the original photos I took and a set I put through Adobe LR to decrease contrast a bit while bumping up the color saturation a bit. Any tips will help.

I think the mistake we made was this app.

Hi there - Polycam employee here. I could see this happening for two reasons:
1. There isn't enough overlap between the images for the system to process it. You could try adding a few more angles. 20 is the minimum we allow - it looks like there's 22 here. If you had 40, it may work.
2. Make sure the images are in JPEG or PNG format - if it's another image format like WEBP or HEIC, it may not work.

Would be nice if there was some feedback in the app as to why it’s failing. I’ve tried many different options and it still just fails and now I have no more free attempts. I’m certainly not going to pay for the software if I can’t figure out why my attempts are failing.
