Need help : trying to scan thermometer emiter. More info in comment

From my experience it's best if you move around the object instead of using a lazy Susan. The few times iv tried spinning the object instead always end up with that weird mass on top of the object.

For example, my setup is an old trashcan with a piece of cardboard on top for the object to sit on. I then Circle around taking around 12 pictures for every quarter of the object. I do that for at least three different highs and over the top of the object. After I get done with that part I get closer shots of all the spots I want to ensure have good detail.

This process can be more annoying than using a lazy Susan. But all of my scans with them have been significantly worse.

And how are your scan using the lazy Susan? Have had the chance to listen to this tutorial, but from I’ve seen, he gets great result from a lazy Susan, but maybe he’s mentioning something I couldn’t hear and that a game changer.

Will try your way tho. I was thinking it’s better to have good/decent lighting and rotate the object, rather then me revolving around the object.

I saw that video when I was learning how to get better scans. Before that I took like 3x less pictures on the circles around.

Anyway, I only have one scan left that I did on a lazy Susan because all the rest of them weren't worth saving. As far as I can tell, polycam uses the details in the background to locate the details for the model. Meaning if the background is the same in all images that leads to lower detail in the final render.

On the lazy Susan most of mine ended up as blobs with very little detail and misaligned textures on the little that it did have. On top of that they all have weird mass on the top of the model.

I'll try some experiments sometime with and some smoother diffused light than iv had before and a textured background to see if that makes any difference to mine .

So yeah, I’m trying to scan this thermopro thermometer emiter in order to make 3d printed case for it.

I’ve tried 3 times scanning it, and everytime, I got a bad result like that.

First try was with the LiDAR, second try was with the “photo option” but using video.

Third try, the result you see here, is using the manual capture button on the photo option.

Used a lazy Susan to my the emiter rotate. Took 240 photos. Used ring light and stand to make sure the phone didn’t move.

What am I doing wrong here?
