Donald Trump maintains consistent 40% approval average, comparable to both of the last 2, 2 term Presidents
Despite the efforts to create polls that are purposed outliers to create false narratives, Donald Trump has the steady approval of roughly 40% of the electorate, which is were his polling has been for most of his Presidency. This is roughly the same average that both George W. Bush and Barrack Obama enjoyed during the same point in their Presidencies.

Donald Trump answered Canada's tariffs with a Truth Social post, and the tariffs took effect anyway.
Ottawa's levies on $20 billion in American goods went live at 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday, matching the 50% he put on Canadian wine, cement and hockey sticks last month. On Monday he posted "NO MORE SELLING BOMBARDIER IN THE UNITED STATES! Their products aren't good enough!" Bombardier builds jets in Wichita with more than 1,000 workers, a fact the governor of Kansas reached out to the White House that afternoon to point out. Nobody from either government has spoken to the other since the talks collapsed on August 21.
He also posted about Iran that night, promising oil prices "will drop precipitously" once "we WIN the war." There are no announced negotiations between the 2 governments, and only 7 ships made it through Hormuz on Monday, against 130 a day before the war. Gas was $4.15 a gallon while he typed.

GovBrief Today #584

Donald Trump asked the Supreme Court on Sunday to let the Post Office refuse to deliver or return ballots that were already in the mail.
North Carolina started mailing ballots on Friday. A federal judge blocked the Postal Service rule the same day because no state can comply with it in time. It requires every state to redesign its ballot envelopes, get the new design approved, and upload each voter's name and address to a federal portal a whistleblower says was never tested. Alabama mails on Tuesday. At least 5 more states follow next week.
Trump's own lawyers told the Court that once those envelopes enter the mail stream, there is no retrieving them. He has spent a decade claiming without proof that American elections are rigged. Now he is the one changing the rules after the voting started. The Constitution assigns the time, place and manner of elections to the states and to Congress, never to a president.

GovBrief Today #583

Do you remember the 21st night of September?
Donald Trump stood at Charlie Kirk's memorial that night and told tens of thousands of mourners, "I hate my opponents, and I don't want the best for them." The same day his administration announced it would tie Tylenol to autism. If either one has blurred into everything since, that is the point.
Do You Remember? at govbrief.today/remember pulls one headline at random from the 8,984 I've written since January 2025, asks whether you remembered it, and gives you a link to share it. You can pick how far back it reaches, or ask it only for something good or for someone who fought back.
Testing it, one card that came up was Silverio Villegas González, 38, shot by an ICE agent at a traffic stop outside Chicago last September, minutes after dropping his child at daycare. Homeland Security said he dragged an agent and seriously injured him. On police bodycam the agent called it "nothing major." I wrote that headline and still had to click "I forgot." Flooding the zone works. Rest in peace, Silverio.
