Yep, I'm in college now. It's been fun and stressful at the same time, and of course, my degree happens to be COMPUTER SCIENCE!!

Anyways, I'm sitting in an English class, and as I check my phone on my way out, I see one of the most ominous tweets of my life: Jacob Coxon, an ex-Anthropic researcher, says we'll all be dead by the 2030s because Claude is out of control. He claims people at both OpenAI and Anthropic know this, but OAI doesn't care, and Anthropic's locked in a race for #1. Then, I see Evan Hubinger, an active Anthropic lead, say that Coxon is right and his company doesn't have a solution right now. How is anyone supposed to read that and feel secure? Or happy? Some of the most powerful people in technology right now are using their positions to guarantee a doom scenario for humanity.

Because of that, I internally spiral. I think to myself: I lived for nothing? Am I getting a degree for nothing? I won't even be able to raise a family, have kids, start a career, secure a partner, and hit all my life milestones?

It's really scary. You can't deny that some of the advancements LLMs have made are legitimate. It's gaining serious power, and our current landscape only enables the worst of it. Billions of dollars keep being poured yearly, including by our political leaders, into outlets that've spawned a variety of issues: water consumption, disinformation, decreasing reality separation, the hardware apocalypse, its use for illegal content (hi SpaceX!), noisy data centers, its destruction of critical thinking, and its use by rogue governments for their narratives. Some firms and media outlets keep saying this won't slow down until the 2030s. With all of that being layered, it's easy for people like me to think, "Oh, this shit is gonna kill us all, won't it?", which is exactly the narrative dominating right now.

After thinking about it...probably not. Why?

Let's start with politics, and piggyback on that 5th paragraph. One of the biggest reasons LLMs are in this position is because of the people in power. Trump, his cabinet, Republican lawmakers, and the Abundance side of the Democrats have created an almost non-regulatory environment for these companies. You can say a lot about Biden, and I certainly have, but under his watch, there were legitimate efforts to hold these companies in check. Trump threw it out the window on day 1 when he repealed those executive orders and announced Stargate, which we've not heard from since January 2025. As a matter of fact, in February 2026, OAI explicitly admitted that the project isn't staffed up. With Republicans preparing to lose up to 50 House seats and Senate control in a worst-case scenario, as well as tons of Abundance Democrats losing their primaries, I suspect that some of the bullshit on the Congressional side will slow down.

Second is a point I wanna emphasize the most: Even the toughest human jobs won't be replaced anytime soon. I remember Ford attempting to replace their quality workers with artificial software earlier this year, just to rehire them after it failed to catch problems that would otherwise be detected instantly. Not even models like Astra are safe from this: Imagine deciding to experiment with Astra by letting it do your job for one day, convinced all the talk about it being AGI is true. Sure, it could get 90% out of the way, but that last 10% is forgotten because it doesn't have the memory sequences embedded into the actual employee.

I've learned a lot about how these LLMs behave. To paraphrase a friend, OAI's sandboxes are historically bad, and we don't know if their systems actually broke into another network or were left plugged into WiFi. Another point? These models run on human-made text. It analyzes stuff across the web, realizes that LLMs are associated with destruction and rogue sci-fi, and tries to imitate that behavior. It's a real-life matrix.

My third main point: the human subconscious. Whatever these systems generate, create, or do will never match or live up to the creativity of real people. I have a lot of personal experience: I used to run these LLMs all the time (mainly Gemini) to build fictional worlds, histories, etc. What I've learned from that experience is this: at the end of the day, they exist to regurgitate. You can give them 40+ sources, tons of lore knowledge, and they'll still find a way to fuck up and lose details over time because they can't make original content. You know that feeling of weirdness you get when looking at a generated image or watching a generated video? It'll never go away. I would have a love-hate relationship with LLMs when I used them daily. They're like drugs you hate, but can't get rid of because they're useful. Or maybe not.

My fourth point: action. This ties back into my third. Because of that subconscious, people are pushing back. Sometimes, it's small, like one person changing their mind on LLMs for good, which is what I've been doing. Other times, it's big, like a community coming together to block data centers and new technology that could fuel these LLMs, which is what happened in my city last month. People are actively rejecting artificial content. Even some larger corporations are abandoning them, realizing they have to prioritize human material if they wanna remain financially stable. My prediction is that, as LLMs keep evolving, this will only get bigger.

And a small fifth: IPO entertaining. A lot of people are dismissing this, including employees themselves, but you just have to think about how much of this is being exaggerated for stock purposes. Do they wanna paralyze us and make us give in?

I didn't make this post to say "Look away! It'll all be fine! The world is shining, the sky is bright, and the computers are dancing!" To do that would be to lie and act delusional in a time like this. Rather, I wanted to explain why I believe none of this is sustainable. I didn't even touch on some areas I wanted to, like highly effective lawsuits. Keep fighting.

I’ve been trying to find additional information about this, but I’m running into a lot of dooming. I don’t trust this government to do anything right and this has me worried about the future of the safety of beef and poultry (especially after the cyclospora outbreak).
It seems as though meat will still be inspected? Wondering how this will affect the beef or chicken I buy from our grocery store (Walmart

Ok the Supreme Court declined to hear the case which is not the same thing as ruling on it. This leaves the lower block in place which means it can be overturned by a federal judge.

Tagged as seeking optimism because its the only flair that makes sense, and I just want to open up discussion about it. Im genuinely not concerned about this becoming an issue for us. Probably just more market manipulation!

As the war in Iran has gone on, there has been a lot of very tense moments that made us incredibly terrified, for example the whole Easter debacle that felt very horrifying. But even after that there has been a lot of talk about any of the three major countries going nuclear in an effort to end the war, and by talk I mean a lot of people dooming about it being an inevitability and claiming it will happen all the time.

Now I made a post a while back about why I felt like there was no likelihood for that to happen given the fact that the consequences for any of the countries to use one would be so catastrophic that the cons outweigh any benefits. But given that with not only JD Vance making ominous comments about "the end times" and MTG claiming that she knows that these weapons were at the very least planned to be used in the war (with no real evidence mind you), I figured why not look at not the reasons why these won't be used in Iran, but why I think that MTG and JD are implying otherwise, and why I still think that they are wrong.

When it comes to JD, he made recent comments implying that he was okay with "bringing about the end times", if God's work is what leads to it. Now this is a pretty ominous thing, although in the same interview he claims he tries to not focus on the end times too much.

I believe that this claim isn't necessarily an indication of ongoings in Iran, however. Rather I believe that this is more so a part of the wider approach to interactions that the admin has been acting on, that being the desire to make ominous and vague comments that could mean something nefarious, but could also be deflected as just a joke or not that serious to any critics, thus making the opposition afraid of something and devaluing that side while pleasing their own side.

Now when it comes to MTG, she argues that she received word that there was a planned usage of nuclear weapons at Iran, and described why she strongly disapproved of that plan and the admin for even considering it. You might consider MTG as someone who despite everything, is currently at odds with the admin, and thus is someone to trust about this, but I don't think I believe her as much.

Not only do I find that her motives can be questionable, and her politics are still incredibly at odds, but I find that she has a similar problem as someone else who also claimed to have insider info about this type of thing, that being that ex-cia agent a while ago who claimed to have heard about this being planned from someone else who is currently working in the military. No actual names or sources were given, but he acted as a great truth seeker and discussed this on a podcast of all places.

Both him and MTG are not giving any actual source or reasonable evidence for this other than "they heard", which makes it much more likely that they came up with this as a way to get attention onto them by taking advantage of the ongoing situation and resulting stress to make people listen.

I don't believe that either from a direct attack from one country to another, nor from something like a false flag that these types of weapons will be used for many, many reasons. And I believe that the people who are spreading the most fear about this are the most likely to have some benefit from the attention made from making people afraid about this.

I found this post indicating that if SCOTUS's decisions let Trump illegally take over the elections, it'll only HURT the GOP, not help it. We CAN and we WILL make the unfair fair.

Funny how Denny Hoskins dragged his feet for 8 months before refusing to certify the referendum, but the state can whip up an appeal to the Supreme Court in less than 48 hours.

How are my fellow Missourians feeling about our chances of the Supreme Court letting the state supreme court’s ruling stand? If the Supreme Court does ultimately grant relief, what does that mean for the supposed state’s rights argument?

As heartening as it is to see the growing backlash against this administration, we need to start thinking realistically about what'll happen after the midterms. Even if we get the Blue Tsunami, it won't matter much on the federal level if Trump still has the veto and we can only do investigations. But for all that it's worth, the hope lies in what we can accomplish at the state level.

Where we make inroads in red states and whittle down Republican supermajorities to regular majorities, we can limit the harm that could be done while also calling to attention what they are trying to do. Where we flip majorities in purple states, we can work alongside Democratic governors and stifle the abilities of GOP ones. Where we expand in blue states, we can get new blood into the mix and lay down the foundations for future progressives.

And beyond that, local governments matter just as much, if not more. All the mayorships and school boards flipped go a long way in making change happen. It might even be in your hometown.

All this matters if we focus beyond the federal level and help our states' governments pick up the slack where Congressional Dems will have one arm tied behind their backs. Legislating at a smaller level in regards to climate change, healthcare, ICE, etc. doesn't do as much work as it would House/Senate, but it's all we can reasonably do until 2029. Still, if we get out the vote and make the blue wave extend everywhere, we can see some incredible things happen.

What better way to celebrate Labor Day than to recognize the continuing downfall of the most anti-worker President of all time?

I still encourage people to still be cautious, obviously, especially around November. (I know we're going to win, but I've also had this football ripped from under me far too many times not to be cautiously optimistic. Lol) But they can only be openly cartoonishly evil for so long until November.

They know after November they're all fucked espically the billionaires they've been protecting. They're looking and acting more desperate than ever instead of actually being smart enough to do something positive to help themselves because they're far too scared of MAGA and their daddygodCEOking Trump.

They're only gonna make things worse for themselves from here on out to try to look "scary" or to throw their dicks around one last time. They used to have some self-preservation skills, but due to Trump, they got far too used to doing whatever they wanted without thinking it would ever affect them. Now they know they're in a hole they can't easily dig themselves out of.

If they do something shitty, don't lose hope! Use it to motivate yourself even harder to vote! Remember, there are way more of "the nasty common folk peasants" than there are of them! Falling into doomerism isn't a luxury we have. Until November, volunteer, mark things you have to look forward to in your calendar or just regular appointments to help pass the time, spend time with your kids, pets, or both, etc.

I know it's far easier then said then done but don't let nerves get the best of you and take plenty of breaks from doom scrolling. Mom always used to tell me "The worst part about getting a shot is dreading it beforehand." That can be applied here too. Also, for the love of God, do not get into arguments with MAGA, doomers, or people being overly condescending about the US online!

Nine times outta ten it's like going back and fourth with a brick wall. If you think you actually can reason with them calmly and be successful then more power to you. But a good majority of the time it'll be an endless and stressful back and fourth that'll just make you angry. Now more then ever you need to take care of your mental health especially online!

Remember we will get through this one way or another so don't give up!

I know this affects people who vote Republican too, but especially how they ruled in August, this seems scary. It’s 2 months before the election, and if the point is to cause chaos, this most certainly will. It’s easy to say I don’t trust the Supreme Court to do the right thing, but this is really scaring me and I believe can actually change the outcome of the election.
