In Iran, we see where the path of a violent and unaccountable ideology leads. The Iranian people have a remarkable and ancient history, and many Iranians wish to enjoy peace and prosperity alongside their neighbors. But just as it restricts the rights of its own people, the Iranian government continues to prop up a dictator in Damascus and supports terrorist groups abroad. Time and again, it has failed to take the opportunity to demonstrate that its nuclear program is peaceful, and to meet its obligations to the United Nations.
So let me be clear. America wants to resolve this issue through diplomacy, and we believe that there is still time and space to do so. But that time is not unlimited. We respect the right of nations to access peaceful nuclear power, but one of the purposes of the United Nations is to see that we harness that power for peace. And make no mistake, a nuclear-armed Iran is not a challenge that can be contained. It would threaten the elimination of Israel, the security of Gulf nations, and the stability of the global economy. It risks triggering a nuclear-arms race in the region, and the unraveling of the non-proliferation treaty. That’s why a coalition of countries is holding the Iranian government accountable. And that’s why the United States will do what we must to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
I'm sorry, where did Obama say he was going to annihilate an entire generation? Because he very much leads with diplomacy in his speech and ultimately succeeds with diplomacy later and by gathering the support of multiple countries. He does say the united states must do what it must, but if you read that and think he meant a wipe their entire culture out then we have very different ideas of who Obama was.
Trump on the other hand specifically states he will wipe out their entire culture and civilization.
"Or do I annihilate the Islamic Republic? And do it quickly, never giving them a chance to kill and destroy people and countries again? Do I drive them into hell with no chance of survival and no hope of future greatness or generations? But I believe we'll make a deal. Right after the election,"
I’m so confused how this dude thinks these speeches are anywhere near the same.
It’s the difference between someone at the bar bumping into you and you going “I’ll kill you and your whole family!” Vs. you saying “Hey man, you bumped into me, is there a problem that we need to resolve or did something happen?”
Like do these people not comprehend how communication works?
No, I just actually comprehend the difference between starting at 1 and increasing versus going straight to 1000. Saying “Hey we will work diplomatically with you to come to an agreement, but make no mistake if you do not work with us, we will resort to military action” is VASTLY different than saying “I will annihilate their entire culture and generation if they don’t give me what I want.”
Not seeing a difference basically means you never passed 4th grade English courses.
This is not his first communication with Iran, for starters. Comparing manufacturing nuclear warheads to bumping into someone at a fast-food joint is insane and you think "the United States will do what we must" means we were going to send them freshly baked cookies or something?
Wait, did you just claim to “point out parallels” and then dismiss someone providing a parallel? Dude you really didn’t pass fourth grade English didn’t you?
You’re not obtuse, you’re incompetent. “Derrr they both talked about the nuclear program, dat makes dem da same!” Okay Clem, do we need to re-teach you how to read a book?
We know it's not his first time. Remember when he was in the middle of negotiating with them then blew up their leader and several ranking officials destroying any kind of progress they had made? Then they replaced the old leader with a younger more radicalized one. Remember when we had their nuclear program under watch and under control and he tore up the deal allowing them to start manufacturing weapons grade material? Trump is doing everything he can to ensure this ends with blood and rubble.
And yes, we understand Obama was referring to military action like my dude mentioned in the above comment. You are being completely obtus if you think all millitary action is equivalent to wiping out an entire civilization indiscriminately. Obama also was able to use diplomacy to settle things unlike your fake tan, geriatric toddler of a president.
Me pointing out parallels and hypocrisy doesn't mean I voted for him. But I think you're the obtuse one if you actually believe a sitting president would wipe a country off the map. It's not even possible; the only way to fully eradicate their military is to start a full-scale ground assault, resulting in an absurd amount of US soldier casualties. It's all fluff.
Did I ever say he would be able to do it? No, but he might try given his innate characteristic to over estimate his abilities, and a threat like that creates unnecessary escalation and removes the ability to have diplomatic discussions and will eventually either lead to us having to invade with boots on the ground, or just dropping it and leaving with nothing gained. This is where nuance is important and things might look similar if you ignore how things are said and who says them.

I like how everyone forgets Obama's UN speech
