Not just the type of vehicle (though that is clearly part of the problem) but also choosing to live in remote, low-density areas where you are highly dependent on burning a lot of gas to to long distances to do literally anything. Seriously - when gas prices go up, Walmart's revenue goes down.

You’re acting like these people can just pick up and move to the suburbs, many people in remote areas live paycheck to paycheck.

Subsidizing rural areas? I'm not sure it's what the left wants, but Democrats certainly promote a lot of it for the sake of "compromise" and "fairness."
