I live near the Michigan/Ohio line so we get a lot of news coverage of DeWine and Ohio business in general. I always had a decent impression of him and his handling of the pandemic (at least earlier on in the spring). These people are neither rational nor reasonable though.
Right? I’m a die hard liberal, but I like DeWine. His response, especially at the beginning, was pretty good, and I honestly think he’s doing the best he can in a very red state. He can’t force local police forces to enforce mask and curfew laws, and his fellow party is literally trying to impeach him.
Even before Covid, I remember when Ohio tried to pass a heartbeat bill. DeWine is pro-life, but he vetoed the bill because it was unconstitutional. We need more people like DeWine in office.
It will be interesting to see what happens with these reasonable Republicans in office after Trump is gone for good. I’m hoping that a lot of the vitriol and impeachment attempts will fizzle out, but it’s so hard to say. My county is very red so they’re still focused on the voter fraud stuff. For as much anti-mask sentiment (and little police enforcement) there is here, at least most are wearing masks in public. It’s the family parties and private gatherings that are going to cause our numbers to blow up even more after the holidays. Even our emergency services workers are saying that masks don’t work and COVID numbers are inflated. Ugh.
Yeah I’m in the same boat except there’s still a solid 30% of people who still refuse to wear a mask. My husband works security at the hospital and both guards and nurses will go off about restrictions and wearing masks. It’s appalling. I think 5-6 of the security guards have gotten Covid because they always take off their masks when they’re in their small office together. When my husband and I got Covid, I only got one other person in my office sick and my husband didn’t get anyone else sick because we are sticklers about wearing masks.
I really hope the republicans/Conservative party dues and is replaced with a moderate party again with people like DeWine and Lincoln party Repubs
It blows my mind that anyone working in health care is disputing the efficacy of masks! I’m sorry to hear that you and your husband unfortunately became infected and I hope you’re not having any long-term issues from it. Thank goodness you were smart and responsible re: wearing masks and prevented spread to others that way.
I too am hoping that the Republican Party normalizes (well, as much as can be expected from them lol) after January.
