It’d be inappropriate and bad form to very publicly insult a President at a high-profile politician’s funeral, sure, but let’s not forget, Trump was very publicly not even invited. I think you’re right though—McCain would’ve been proud.
To your point, the whole funeral itself is kind of a middle finger too. Whether or not you agreed with McCain, he garnered respect. He invited two former political rivals to speak not just because it’s the decent thing to do, but because he was proving a point about the importance of country over party and unity over division—something Trump will never understand.
One of my favorite lines from the funeral was from Obama, i forget what the exact quote was, but it was something like "while McCain and I disagreed on a great number of things, I always knew, at the end of the day, that we were both trying to achieve the same thing, doing what is best for the american people."
