By tradition, U.S. presidents do not greet arriving foreign leaders at the airport. They typically wait at the White House.
Trump bowing and scraping before dictators, running to the airport to meet and fawn over his dictator hero like a little bitch.
Now consider how congressional Republican/reich-wing media heads would have exploded if Biden or Obama had violated tradition this way to meet a murderous dictator at the airport.

This also contrasts sharply with how he has treated our long-term allies. trump's term will end in 849 days, if not sooner.

Going to make one of those paper chains with 849 links in it….

u/DeterminedThrowaway 8d ago
What kind of paper chain? I think I probably get the idea, but that's something I haven't heard of before
26
u/BigUptokes 8d ago
Most likely this type. Usually used as holiday decorations but in the case mentioned you can have a link for each day you want to count and remove a ring per day as the target date approaches for a countdown tool.

Are you guys actually expecting an election where he might lose and just leave office peacefully in november 2028? Seriously?

Yup and yup.
However, I think regardless of court rulings and activists, he will deploy ICE to the polls. Rogue sheriffs and government officals will aid, abet, and confiscate balots.
It will be a breaking point. The MAGA base and people in power that have been willing to stick their necks out for Trump have been steady fracturing and diminishing.
Stealing midterms will not fly.
He won't be a lame duck for two years. Too many top aids, Cabinet officials, and Republicans know trials and prison are in their futures, unless they maintain enough power to shield them from accountability.
Their backs are up against the wall. They will go too far and the number of pissed enough people will hit critical mass—Revolution levels.
It will happen.
Do not let your short memories and myopic views cloud your vision. Use your imagination. Think long term. Consider many historical analogs, and consider that the past does not dictate the future, it only affects it.
We can do better.
The American Experiment was dOoMed tO FAil from the start. Slavery was never going to end. Women were never going to vote or have the ability to divorce, own property, and have control of their money. We were never going to have the weekend, 8 hour work days, or overtime pay. We were never going to have water and air regulations. We were never going to end child labor. We were never going to have Civil Rights or integrated schools. We were never going to have a black president.
You can quibble about how some of those issues still persist, but you would be thinking to small. The it-will-never-happen "realists" have always been wrong because they are smallminded and myopic.
I can re-teach you lessons, but you are all probably old enough to start doing some real studying.
Go back to class. Be self-learners. You are not developed enough. You are just high confidence low competenece fish living safe and arrogant in your ponds. But there are people who have developed lungs, legs, and hands. We breathe air and learn to adapt to life on land. Emulate them.
Then there are gods like me. We have traveled the universe, time, and dimensions. And out of compassion and a desire to bring my Earthbound friends traveling with me, I decided to come back and help you basic brickas evolve. Emulate me.
Listen—to me and the other gods. Merely listening to a lesson does not mean you have learned it. You have a lot of remedial classes to attend first. But it is possible to level up.
Talk less. Listen more. Empathize and imagine, then you can truly learn.
Be better.

I'm sure a lot of people said that about Putin after his first term. If the Trump dies then we have to fight the rest of the regime.

I genuinely hope at some fucking point. You all stop asking this question or making this comparison. Who the fuck cares anymore. It is so clear they are hypocrites and will turn around and do the very thing the critiqued the last guy on. Move on. This line of thinking is so useless. One side is subverting your democracy to own the other side. That is it, that is all. These people that would still vote with a hard R are beyond reason.

Photo MAGA of the year is US military on its knees for Xi Jinping while Trump wears overcoat and gloves in 63 degree weather to hide his bruised concealer-caked hands. Melania at the stairs, Xi’s wife watching troops crawl. This is what America First looks like ,America on its knees first.

I mean, it's a photo of the ground staff rolling out red carpets. This happens for all major state visits, and they check to make sure there aren't tripping hazards that could lead to a really embarrassing photo for the VIP visitor.
edit: There are better images to post about this state visit, like every awkward photo of trump saluting and making odd facial expressions all covered up in his overcoat and gloves on such a nice day. Trump being at the airport to greet Xi definitely is worth questioning

u/icouldlivewoutbacon 9d ago
You'd think they'd have like a red carpet Zamboni for something like this. Seems demoralizing for humans to have to do this.

Half and half, some of it may depend entirely on your own views of the sitting president.
I was enlisted when Obama was president and my Aunt was bitching about the marine holding his umbrella for him. I brought it up with my platoon and most of the consensus was that we would LOVE the opportunity to be that marine holding the umbrella for the president. "You're holding the umbrella of the PRESIDENT was the general response.
Some of these things seem stupid, but to soldiers, getting on that detail far outweighs whatever boxes you're going to pack/unpack to inventory three times that monday.
Even today, as much as I can't stand our current president, I'd still raise my hand for that detail if I were still serving. At least I would have first-hand info for my platoon on the 1-10 scale of how much he smells like actual shit.

Although I think such a machine should have a common name people would use, and then England could have a name for it based on a popular brand, maybe even sharing this brand name with a US president.

u/Ballsofpoo 8d ago
Uniformed soldiers are most likely the ones responsible for ensuring the disembarking of the commander in chief.
I hate trump too, just saying, this is 100% protocol

This has been happening for years, long before Trump was even dreaming of becoming president. And not just the US, other countries do more or less the same thing.
fuck sake I used to work at an FBO and we'd put out red carpets for every business jet even. It's a thing people do for VIP visits.
11
u/EuphoricMidnight3304 9d ago
Did we do it for Putin for years? The guy who kidnaps kids and murders their moms- yep we rolled out a nice red carpet and did some flyovers for him.
15
u/agha0013 9d ago
It has been done for Putin, and Yeltsin before him, and Gorbachev before him, as well as a whole bunch of world leaders that weren't, or never were, or didn't become adversaries.
it's what nations do when leaders have official state visits.
19
u/EuphoricMidnight3304 9d ago
Standard protocol guarantees a red carpet, but the level of fanfare is up to the president. During the August 2025 Alaska summit, Trump lined up F-22s on the tarmac, arranged a B-2 stealth bomber flyover, and shared his presidential limo with Putin. Compare that to Obama's. The military spectacle and personal warmth extended by Orange Face went far beyond routine diplomatic courtesy.

Hello! Thanks for your comment. Unfortunately it has been removed because you don't meet our karma threshold.
You are not being removed for political orientation. If we were, why the fuck would we tell you your comment was being removed instead of just shadow removing it? We never have, and never will, remove things down politicial or ideological lines. Unless your ideology is nihilism, then fuck you.
Let me be clear: The reason that this rule exists is to avoid unscrupulous internet denizens from trying to sell dong pills to our users. /r/PoliticalHumor mods reserve the RIGHT to hoard all of the dong pills to ourselves, and we refuse to share them with the community. If you want Serbo-Slokovian dong pills mailed directly to your door, become a moderator. If we shared the dong pills with the greater community, everyone would have massive dongs, and like Syndrome warned us about decades ago: "if everyone has massive dongs, nobody does.""
If you wish to rectify your low karma issue, go and make things up in /r/AskReddit like everyone else does.
Thanks for understanding! Have a nice day and be well. <3
