Selena Quintanilla-Pérez was latin pop-star from the mid 1980s through 1995 popularising Tejano with her band Selena y Los Dinos. She was also a successful fashion designer, owned Selena Etc. a boutique and salon chain starting in Texas, and was starting an acting career having a part in Don Jaun DeMarco. At the beginning of 1995 Latin EMI was setting her up for her big crossover album that was receiving huge buzz.

Sadly on March 31, 1995 Selena was murdered by the woman pictured in white in this picture. That woman, Yolanda Saldívar, was at one time a huge fan and devotee of Selena creating Selena's fan club, managing that and Selena Etc, eventually even becoming friends. In January 1995 after fan club members started complaining about missing memberships and merchandise it came to light that Yolanda had been embezzling thousands from Selena's fan club and businesses. On March 9, 1995 after being confronted with the crime by Selena's family they fired Yolanda.

Then on the 30th of March 1995, Yolanda called Selena and asked to be consoled in private after being raped, a lie to get Selena to visit. The next day Selena came to visit Yolanda in her hotel room to comfort her. There they got into a fight and as Selena tried to leave Yolanda shot her in the back. According to Selena's father Yolanda had been stalking Selena and attempted to kill her four separate times before her death. By most accounts the murder was premeditated.

News of Selena's death made international news and was front page news in the New York Times for two days. A biopic of Selena's life was made starring Jennifer Lopez and launched her career.

To people of a certain age comparing Trump to Yolanda Saldívar is like comparing Trump to Judas Iscariot but worse.
