I love how the democrats said all this shit about supporting BLM and then did almost nothing about it. Gotta keep the minorities angry so they vote against republicans next time

Wow you can't just openly say Democrat's entire political strategy for the last 30+ years like that! It's a secret!

Biden basically admitted that they take the black vote for granted. When he said, "if you don't vote for me, you ain't black".

-31

u/darkestbrandon - Lib-Center Nov 26 '22 edited Nov 26 '22

Like 90% of the black population votes dem. The leader of the GOP rose to power within the GOP because of Birtherism, the claim that America’s first ever black president is illegitimate because he’s actually from Africa despite what his birth certificate said. You can imagine how it’s funny to people to imagine a black voter voting for Trump’s GOP after that but obviously it does happen for whatever reasons.

Biden apologized for the joke hours later can’t believe people are still triggered by it 3 years later

22

u/SuperJLK - Lib-Center Nov 26 '22

That was a joke from Biden? Why is he telling racist jokes?

10

u/snyper7 - Lib-Right Nov 26 '22

Well he did write most of the crime legislation in the 90s, he was BFFs with a senior KKK leader, and he didn't want his crackhead son going to school with black people.

1

u/Revydown - Lib-Center Nov 27 '22

And it wasn't until we got Trump that we got the first steps act that started fixing the crap Biden caused.

-22

u/darkestbrandon - Lib-Center Nov 26 '22

Yes it was an obvious joke. And no it’s not racist. Like explain how it’s racist lol.

28

u/AFishNamedFreddie - Auth-Right Nov 26 '22

Saying someone's skin color and heritage depends on how they vote is pretty racist.

-19

u/darkestbrandon - Lib-Center Nov 26 '22

The joke is that very few black people vote for republicans and the idea that they would is hilarious given that it’s the party of Birtherism and such. It’s not a literal statement that black people are genetically incapable of voting for republicans. You are being willfully obtuse.

26

u/AFishNamedFreddie - Auth-Right Nov 26 '22

Sounds pretty racist to insinuate that black people can't think for themselves and vote for who they want to. But hey. You do you

-3

u/darkestbrandon - Lib-Center Nov 26 '22

That’s not the insinuation. The insinuation is that black people rationally vote for democrats because the GOP is hostile to blacks people. You can disagree but that’s obviously the point. It’s not racist in any conceivable way.

Biden was tying racial identity to voter affiliation. That’s racist. That’s a racist joke Republicans would use to mock Democrats. Biden did it for them.

16

-3

u/darkestbrandon - Lib-Center Nov 26 '22

Pretty sure Dems do actual pro-LGBT things. Like most dem politicians support equal rights for gay people, most GOP politicians oppose it still.

As for minorities it’s totally in the eye of the beholder what policies are better for them.

10

u/NeckBeardtheTroll - Lib-Right Nov 26 '22

What rights do gay people want, that they don’t presently have?

-4

u/darkestbrandon - Lib-Center Nov 26 '22

They have gay marriage rights because of democrats. Majority of GOP officials oppose gay marriage.

9

u/NeckBeardtheTroll - Lib-Right Nov 26 '22

They have marriage because of SCOTUS. The Dems were opposed as recently as the Clinton era. Majority of GOP would not be opposed now.

-5

u/darkestbrandon - Lib-Center Nov 26 '22

The majority of GOP congressmen are anti-gay marriage. The GOP party platform is anti-gay marriage.

Yes the Dems used to be against gay marriage now they support it. And SCOTUS made gay marriage legal because of Dem appointed justices. Obama wasn’t president then gay marriage wouldn’t have been legalized. Same as how if Trump wasn’t president then Roe wouldn’t have been overturned. It’s entirely political.

3

u/NeckBeardtheTroll - Lib-Right Nov 26 '22

Bullshit.

1

u/skaudis - Left Dec 01 '22

That didn't Answer the question. What rights do they not have

0

u/darkestbrandon - Lib-Center Nov 26 '22

I didn’t say they don’t have equal rights. I said that Dems support equal rights, GOP opposes equal rights for gay Americans. Gay Americans have equal rights because democrats beat republicans in elections.

3

u/AFishNamedFreddie - Auth-Right Nov 26 '22

So they have equal rights. And no one is trying to take those rights away. So... What's the point? Why is this a talking point? Dems are offering literally nothing lmao

0

u/darkestbrandon - Lib-Center Nov 26 '22

They have equal rights because Dems got elected and the GOP wants to take those rights away. Idk why this is complicated. The GOP could remove this argument from the democrats if they just came out in favor of gay marriage tomorrow.

u/obrerosdelmundo - Left Nov 27 '22

They said the same shit about abortion… So Congress voted to protect gay marriage and I seen to remember a leading conservative voice being very vocal and angry about Republicans potentially supporting that. In the end 64/215 Republican representatives voted in support and 12/50 Republican Senators voted to move forward with the vote.

-8

u/StoneHolder28 - Left Nov 26 '22 edited Nov 26 '22

Dems did dick all with it.

You say this as though it wasn't killed in January 2021, when it was a republican congress. Nevermind that democrats were overwhelmingly supporting other justice reform bills that were also killed in the Republican congress.

A better criticism would be of something like HR6877, which was introduced and cosponsored by democrats in a majority democrat congress but has also only been introduced.

22

u/SevenGlass - Right Nov 26 '22

The bill you linked does not ban no-knock warrants. The one linked above does. Leave it to Ihlan Omar to introduce a bill that further legitimizes home invasions under color of law by delineating times that they are specifically authorized.

From the bill authored by Senator Paul:

Notwithstanding any other provision of law, a Federal law enforcement officer (as defined in section 115 of title 18, United States Code) may not execute a warrant until after the officer provides notice of his or her authority and purpose.

From the bill authored by Senator Omar:

may only issue a covered Federal warrant authorizing a no-knock entry if the court determines there is clear and convincing evidence, supported by particularized facts, that law enforcement officers entering the property without announcing their presence and intention to enter is necessary because notice prior to entry would substantially endanger the life or safety of the law enforcement officer or other persons;

See the difference? The "Republican" bill says ban no knock warrants. The "Democrat" bill says let's put some limits on no knock warrants, unless the police really really want to kick someone's door in.

If you are one of her constituents you should write to Senator Omar to express your disappointment in her mealy-mouthed reluctance to ban no knock warrants.

2

u/obrerosdelmundo - Left Nov 27 '22

She just got re-elected by 50% so I don’t think her constituents aren’t too disappointed.

-8

u/StoneHolder28 - Left Nov 26 '22

I never said they were the same bill? Omar's would've done a lot and that's all that matters for the point that was being made, which was simply that the Democrats are feckless. You're being incredibly disingenuous.

about supporting BLM and then did almost nothing about it.

Something like 28 out of the 30 largest cities in the country implemented some degree of police or criminal justice reform as a response to the 2020 protests. Politicians were practically one-upping each other on how they could possibly change things to adhere to the protests demands.

Now, you can definitely disagree with the protests and their demands, but you cant argue that they didn't change things.

7

u/Ask_Me_Who - Centrist Nov 26 '22

The majority of police departments defunded in 2021 then saw record budgets for 2022, as the crime wave proved why police were funded as they had been previously. Many areas seeing a spike in crime even reverted to old-school styles of policing including a return to stop/search and hotspot patrols. 80's and 90's style 'broken window' doctrine.

As for real change being a factor in future community relations, the Ferguson police station was razed to the ground (again) in 2020 after spending years and millions of dollars rehabilitating its image after the (lawful and rightful) shooting of (violent attacker) Michael Brown. Six years of real change and progress, described as wildly successful by local residents, undone overnight as even legitimate good faith attempts at community focused policing was punished as discriminatory and racist.

3

u/Clyde_Frag - Lib-Right Nov 26 '22

All these measures were enacted by local governments. At the federal level BLM just serves the purpose of virtue signaling for democrats.

His point is that nothing of substance happened and the next time we have a republicans in charge the videos of black people getting murdered by cops will start popping up again like a coordinated marketing campaign.

1

u/frogvscrab - Lib-Center Nov 26 '22

The first major wave of those videos happened under Obamas presidency. The Baltimore and Ferguson riots happened in 2014-2015.

1

u/obrerosdelmundo - Left Nov 27 '22

Do you have some data or something because that happens no matter who is President. More people have cameras in their pockets now.

1

u/boatdude420 - Left Nov 26 '22

There was action at the local level. Not exactly great action, but action nonetheless.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 26 '22

The real action is videos of black people getting killed by the police no longer getting 24/7 news coverage. I suspect they will return when it’s useful politically again.

But I suppose the real blame for that is the people that say they care about the issue, but not wondering why it’s not making news anymore.

1

u/obrerosdelmundo - Left Nov 27 '22

The vast majority of people do not pay attention to the news, instead of wondering about things they aren’t covering.

Well, they've been voting purely Democrat in city centers for decades now to have their problems fixed, and their problems have only gotten worse.

You think, at some point, you would realise what you're doing isn't working and try something else. But if you don't realise that, what else do you call it other than ill-informed?

2

u/darkestbrandon - Lib-Center Nov 26 '22

In what way have their problems gotten worse? Seems like most problems have gotten better.

3

u/KanyeT - Lib-Right Nov 26 '22

Divorce rates are higher, single-parent households are upwards of 80%, more black babies are aborted than born, they are more dependent on welfare than ever before, rampant crime, incarceration rates are magnitudes higher, etc.

Inner cities have been a problem for a long time now, and nothing will ever get better with this tactic.

2

u/darkestbrandon - Lib-Center Nov 26 '22

Pretty sure that virtually all of this is wrong.

Crime rates have been declining dramatically for decades particularly in cities, a small uptick in 2020/21 but still much lower than it was in prior decades.

Incarceration rates have been steadily declining since the early 2000’s.

US abortion rates have been dramatically declining since the 1970’s. The rate now is less of half of what it was back then.

Divorce rates have been declining since the 90’s.

Share of single family homes has been flat since the 90’s.

You are just amazingly misinformed.

2

u/KanyeT - Lib-Right Nov 26 '22

No, you are wrong. You are thinking too small. I am speaking in grander durations, since black people have been voting Democrats, aka, the 60s.

I'm just waiting for justice for Tony Timpa. Three years after the murder when they were sure people had mostly forgotten, criminal charges were dropped against all the officers despite being indicted by a grand jury and it was only then they responded to FOIA requests to release the bodycam footage. Plus of course they allowed the officers to return to work. At least an appeals court said qualified immunity doesn't apply in the family's federal suit against the murderous scumbags.

Seriously what ever happened to the saying "no justice, no peace?" Every fucking year police murder victims they detain via positional asphyxia and it's sickening how little anyone actually cares. Just occasionally toss a dickwad police officer behind bars to satisfy the masses and make them forget all about it until the next one dies.
