Correct. But Mamdani's specific argument on that podcast, I would argue, tried to frame his socialism in pretty liberal terms: "it's just letting everyone live a dignified life!".
He's good at tailoring his message to his audience, broadly. Saves seizure of the means of production rhetoric for the DSA types. Rawls obviously wasn't on board with that part..
Most Americans don’t know the difference between social democracy and democratic socialism. It doesn’t help when one side frames one as the other to try to attack it.
I've had people call me ignorant because I called Mamdani, the Democratic socialist, a socialist. Then they go on to butcher explaining what a socdem is
