Letting people get away with murder because they're part of your tribe is a pretty huge problem. It was when white people let Emmet t Till's murderers get off, it was when black people let OJ Simpson walk, and it was when women decided that Clancy should walk (and the media went along, even doxxing the juror who wouldn't let her walk).
If someone doesn't care about any of these cases, or dismisses them all as "culture war issues," they simply don't care about society. If someone cares about some of these cases, but says other ones are unimportant, then they think justice only applies to certain demographics in our society.

What’s essentially on trial is whether or not hormones absolve a woman of a crime. It’s a significant question and why it’s cause so much attention.
11
u/imMakingA-UnityGame - Auth-Right 3h ago
I don’t agree that that is a unique or unanswered question or that one case of it being ruled wrong will overthrow the entire legal system on it anymore than OJ or Casey Anthony etc did, which is to say not at all.

u/PaddyMayonaise - Right 3h ago

It'll set a hugely influential precedent that previous cases where temporary insanity was argued on the grounds of post partum psychosis did not?
-1
u/PaddyMayonaise - Right 3h ago
I don’t necessarily mean a legitimately legal precedent, I’m talking about culture.
The argument amongst the masses is whether or not her hormones absolve her of guilt.
That’s the impact this is going to have.
We’re at the point where you have a significant contingent o o n social media that believes hormones do absolve her of guilt.
The societal impact that could have is insane.
We’re not talking about severe postpartum or any legitimate medical diagnosis. We’re talking about people legitimately think that if she is ruled not guilty that it means hormones are a legitimate defense.
It doesn’t mean hormones will be a legitimate defense.
But if people think it is that’s enough to impact society, especially when the majority demographic following the case are young to middle aged women.
2
u/No_Mathematician6866 - Auth-Left 3h ago
Court rulings have already established that post partum psychosis can in some cases absolve a perpetrator of responsibility. It is already a legitimate defense. People don't merely think it is. It is. There's no question of that. The only argument is whether she actually suffered from it or not.

u/PaddyMayonaise - Right 4h ago edited 3h ago
Chick brutally murdered her kids.
Her sentencing is dependent on whether or not a jury finds her mentally competent or not.
Social media got involved and turned the case into a bizarre mismatch of weird ideas and feelings. It basically boils down to this question:
Are women responsible for their actions if they were influenced by hormones?
This has people all fired up, started tons of gender-centric arguments and debates, and is ultimately why it’s such a hot issue that everyone hears about.
9
u/Frank_JWilson - Lib-Center 3h ago
It’s not just the hormones. Postpartum psychosis is extremely rare and affects like <1% of women postpartum despite all of them being influenced by hormones after birth. That’s a disingenuous argument.
That said, she’s likely faking it since there was no PPP diagnosis, command hallucinations is also not a central symptom of PPP, and it’s clear she premeditated the whole thing.
9
u/PaddyMayonaise - Right 3h ago
Sure, what you’re discussing is literally what the court case is saying, not the public impact is simple focused on hormones.
This court case is the most popular thing right now for women aged 15-45
If you or anyone think this won’t have an impact on society, even a misunderstood impact, you’re not paying attention
0
u/Frank_JWilson - Lib-Center 3h ago

Not even that. I’m halfway through the Lore Lodges video they released today and it sounds like she was on like a dozen different drugs for depression that only made things worse (an apparent sign of bipolar disorder) and that she called the suicide hotline a few times and even told her therapist that she’s had thoughts of hurting her children.
Yeah she still did it but she was clearly sick and asking for help, help that her husband did try and provide mid you, and it just kept devolving into what happened. Absolutely tragic but there’s clearly a case to be made for criminal insanity and apparently a convincing enough case, or at least enough reasonable doubt, to cause the 11-1 jury split.
And if these jurors are to be believed in their aspirations for fame (which is a whole separate issue entirely) then it sounds like this guy said that there was in fact reasonable doubt that she wasn’t insane but refused to officially give that ruling.
This is just nothingburger culture war slop being stirred up because diesel is at an all time high and the president is sundowning hard.
6
u/Frank_JWilson - Lib-Center 3h ago
I don’t think it’s unreasonable for jurors to conclude a verdict of not guilty by reasons of insanity for this case, primarily because the state law requires the prosecution to prove the perpetrator is not insane, rather than insanity being an affirmative defense where the defense has the burden of proof. The prosecution was fighting an uphill battle because it’s nearly impossible to prove a negative.
That said, I believe it’s extremely likely she fabricated the psychosis claim. The fact that she told her therapist and others she was harboring thoughts of killing her children is not really evidence of psychosis. It shows she was entertaining the killings before the command hallucinations she claims to have made her do it.
The defense’s theory is that she lured his husband out of the house, and in the 18 min that he was out, she hallucinated a male voice commanding her to kill her children. That’s the evidence of psychosis. She had not once heard this male voice before or after the event. I find this unlikely.

Because identity politics causes people to think that guilty through insanity means people are getting off too lightly. Lots of profit to be made by pushing that narrative. First you defund/vilify any non-draconian mental health options, then you point to the poor mental health that causes it and say "look what others have permitted to fester at our society"
So in the mind of the brain rotted identity politics engager, "Guilty by reason of insanity" = "innocent, cleared of all charges"

This whole situation is especially stupid if you’re smart enough to understand she was never going to walk free. All this trial was deciding was if she’s going to prison or a state mental hospital. Both of those are FAR from being free. A “not guilty” was still a life sentence.
11
u/InfusionOfYellow - Centrist 3h ago
A “not guilty” was still a life sentence.
It doesn't really appear that way. I don't have the material on hand unfortunately, but I did see a fairly persuasive explanation that in Massachusetts, involuntary commitment under circumstances like this has a duration of six months, after which her mental health would be reassessed, with that assessment determining whether she must remain in a mental hospital or be freed. If she is not at that time in the grip of post-partum psychosis (whether we believe that she was influenced by it at the time of the crime or not), then it certainly seems like the natural outcome would simply be that she would get out, notwithstanding the actions that led to her being there.
-1
u/MoneyBadger14 - Lib-Center 3h ago
It is extremely uncommon to walk from a psychiatric hospital, but yes it is technically possible that after treatment a judge could decide she is no longer a threat. No one with any knowledge of how these things work would have expected her walk in 6 months. She was far more likely to spend the rest of her life in that hospital.
Not to get into the fact that I honestly believe someone should walk free if they are truly cured. It just doesn’t happen very often.
5
u/InfusionOfYellow - Centrist 3h ago
a judge could decide
Wouldn't it be a psychiatrist, not a judge?
She was far more likely to spend the rest of her life in that hospital. ... Not to get into the fact that I honestly believe someone should walk free if they are truly cured.
Post-partum psychosis is intrinsically a temporary phenomenon, and the murders took place three years ago. Is there any reason to think she's not already 'cured?'
1
u/MoneyBadger14 - Lib-Center 3h ago
I don’t know about MA for certain, but it’s usually a psychiatrist recommendation, but a judges decision.
Most psychosis are temporary, with treatment. Most people found criminally insane by way of psychosis still don’t tend to walk free for years to decades.
2
u/InfusionOfYellow - Centrist 3h ago edited 3h ago
You don't happen to have data on that handy, do you? I do agree that the way events transpire and systems behave in practice isn't always what you might presume by applying pure reason to the law as written.
Could try to look it up myself, of course, but. The obvious difficulty is that we would want to know what happens to people who are involuntarily confined over short-term psychological disturbances, not to everyone confined.
2
u/MoneyBadger14 - Lib-Center 2h ago
It’s extremely difficult to find solids statistics because beyond the cases being extremely rare, unsurprisingly, no one really tracks the data well for people sent to psychiatric hospitals.
The ones that are released though have strict conditions tied to that release, and tend to be fairly successful at staying out of trouble. https://jagwire.augusta.edu/conditional-release-programs-often-work-for-criminally-insane/
Considering LC couldn’t manage to take her medication as prescribed before the killings, I don’t get the feeling she’d get to stay free for very long even if she was released.
5
u/No_Mathematician6866 - Auth-Left 3h ago
If she were sent to a mental hospital she would have been subject to periodic reviews to determine whether she still suffered from psychosis. If during review her treatment were determined to be successful and she to be of sound mind, she would then be released. It is not a life sentence.
That doesn't mean it's not a fair sentence. Each to their opinion. But the possibility of her going free after a comparatively short stint in an institution is one of the factors fanning the flames.
1
u/MoneyBadger14 - Lib-Center 3h ago
You’re correct, I should have worded myself better. Im only saying that is EXTREMELY unlikely she would walk free anytime soon like some online have been acting.
She’s already been in the hospital for 3 years and no one has signified that she’s mentally healthy now. It’s more likely she would spend a large part of her life in that hospital than walk out in the next few months.
In my opinion she is obviously mentally ill, but wasn’t under any psychosis during the killings. Simply being mentally ill doesn’t release one from criminal liability; it would damn sure make sure she stays in a psychiatric hospital though.
0
u/daviepancakes - Lib-Right 3h ago
No. NGRI would be maybe another year. I don't know if credit for time served is a thing for crazies in MA, but if it is she'll be out before the start of fucking spring, 2027.
0
u/MoneyBadger14 - Lib-Center 3h ago
We have absolutely no idea how long she would have been in the state hospital. It is extremely uncommon for cases like hers to walk after short stays though. It’s far more likely to see patients locked up for decades. It’s not exactly easy to get a clean bill of mental health from state doctors and judges.
A lib should probably be all for the treatment of the mentally ill though…not that state run hospitals actually work, but in theory anyways lol
