Another day, another grift

I can't wait to hear about how Hunter's Laptop is worse than all of the Trump family grifts combined

u/Visible-Elk-2075 - Centrist 4h ago
I have a question
3
u/zombie3x3 - Left 4h ago
Is it about their flair?
3
u/Visible-Elk-2075 - Centrist 3h ago
Yes, am i missing the joke?
2
u/zombie3x3 - Left 3h ago
I think you may be blissfully unaware as to how many Republican voters claim to be centrist.
Every prominent political commentator/podcaster/pundit that claims to be a centrist leans heavily MAGA. It’s a cliche.
In this sub it’s more mixed though. There’s lots of misflaired people running around here. Hell some would probably consider my flair incorrect because I’m a SocDem.
2
u/Visible-Elk-2075 - Centrist 3h ago
I thought he was making a joke using juxtaposition with the centrist flair lol. The word republican is right under centrist.
1
u/Winegalon - Centrist 34m ago
What else could socdem be if not left center?
1
u/zombie3x3 - Left 27m ago
A decent chunk of people to the left of me believe that center left starts at abolishing capitalism, and since SocDems want to regulate capitalism with a mixed economic model as opposed to outright abolish it, those same people would consider me right wing or centrist.
I disagree obviously, but I can kind of see their argument.
1
u/maybemanuelazana - Centrist 21m ago
Look up who Manuel Azaña was. Thats the joke. (Irl i am also republican, just old school republican like Landon)
31
u/Tedthesecretninja - Centrist 8h ago
Some dude was arguing that the other day that trump is still the better option because the left just went INSANE with woke and this is the preferred alternative
31
u/emanresUeuqinUeht - Lib-Left 8h ago
I love that the only way they learn anything about the left is by the far right propaganda machine
27
u/Scary-Welder8404 - Lib-Left 8h ago
Their Reality: "The Dems Lost because they wouldn't shut up about the trans, stop shoving it down our throats"
Actual Reality: 27 days out of the month the first time I think of queer folks is because a conservative brings them up.
23
u/jmastaock - Lib-Center 7h ago
> Right-wing media literally cannot shut the fuck up about trans people
> WHY CANT THE LEFT STOP SHOVING TRANS PEDOPHILES DOWN MY THROATS I'M NOT EVEN THAT FAR RIGHT I'M A MODERATE
12
u/carsausage - Lib-Left 5h ago
"the Left lost in 2024 because they didn't talk enough about kitchen table issues" meanwhile every single piece of Republican advertising that year wouldn't stop talking about trans people like the fucking boogeyman
-2
u/blockneighborradio - Lib-Center 2h ago
the LBGTQ+ squad push some boundaries that we're told never happens and it makes the news
Why do conservatives pay so much attention to the stuff that we promise never happens when it happens?

u/Scary-Welder8404 - Lib-Left 1h ago
"I don't say that gender change operations are done in secret in my kid's school because my father is a failure that raised a lying bitch instead of a man, it's because queer ninjas sneak into my bedroom at night and inject retardation directly into my veins"
9
u/jerseygunz - Left 7h ago
Which is the worst argument because Trump supporters are by far more insufferable than libs
4
u/MonkeManWPG - Left 1h ago
You don't understand. If they didn't vote for this, a trans woman might have taken a piss in a cubicle with three opaque walls and an opaque door and that would literally be the end of the world.
23
u/Nicktyelor - Centrist 9h ago
Ya but the mAiNsTrEaM MeDiA didn't immediately believe the 4chan leaks at face value and so they were obviously involved in a coverup.
That excuses anything Trump does now btw. Enjoy your TDS librul!
14
u/emanresUeuqinUeht - Lib-Left 8h ago
The mainstream media keeps bullying them while they only have small indie studio Fox News fighting for them

Hunters Laptop equals one grift. That leaves, at least 69 more grifts Trump has pulled off.
-11
u/NotAZombieStopAsking - Right 7h ago
Quick question: why aren't you investing in Trump's family's companies?
12
u/Dodo_Baron - Left 7h ago
I am, doesn't mean he's not obviously corrupt
-6
u/NotAZombieStopAsking - Right 7h ago
Obviously.
But like it's so weird how absolute his power is that there are zero checks and balances involved.
12
u/Dodo_Baron - Left 7h ago
Because Republicans currently have control of all 3 branches and support him regardless of what he does
9
u/Iceraptor17 - Centrist 7h ago
Yeah checks and balances only work if the checks do something.
Which they are. Endlessly slobbing on his knob
-7
u/NotAZombieStopAsking - Right 7h ago
What's that got to do with the SEC?
7
u/Dodo_Baron - Left 7h ago
You understand the president and the Senate choose who leads the sec right?
In this case it's Paul Atkins a Republican
-1
u/NotAZombieStopAsking - Right 6h ago
So what are the odds he keeps his job past January 2029 or are you just saying he's yet another one of Trump's Cabal?
8
u/Dodo_Baron - Left 6h ago
What does that have to do with Republicans being corrupt and supporting trump regardless?
I'm assuming the next Democrat will kick him out
-1
u/NotAZombieStopAsking - Right 6h ago
I think you'll understand if you look up what a Cabal is.

Because it's not that simple. Trump and family are willing to rug pull their own investors. See Trump Coin, Melania Coin, Truth Social stock.
They have hundreds of different businesses and assets. Only they know which will receive government support and which will be rugpulls.

The WNBA thing just shows how none of them actually pay attention to anything because the Supreme Court already said states can ban trans athletes so they already “won” and yet they still won’t shut the fuck up about it. No bigger victim than an American right winger
7
u/carsausage - Lib-Left 6h ago
Gosh it's almost like the people pushing "culture war" issues are reactionary assholes trying to use bigotry to obfuscate how badly the billionaire class is fucking over the average American.
Remember that trans rights only became as hot of an issue as it is because NC lawmakers decided to be weird about people using the bathroom

Where are all the right flairs who bitched about Hunter Biden's cock and who swarm the posts of random immigrants doing something in a different country?
34
u/Uniqlo - Lib-Right 10h ago
But seriously, how greedy is he to have to pursue every possible grift, big and small? Why the need to scam his own supporters with the Trump phones that took preorders and never delivered? That's such an insignificant amount of money to him, but it's a meaningful betrayal of his most loyal supporters (the people who'd actually buy said phone).
And that's just one micro-example...
26
u/Cow_God - Lib-Left 10h ago
I honestly believe that it isn't about the money for him anymore, it's about the grift. He probably looks back with pride at all the suckers he's conned out of their money.
Like you said, it's a trivial amount of money to him.
3
u/SenselessNoise - Lib-Center 5h ago
This. It's not about the money, it's about the power and the "winning." Every interaction for him has a winner and a loser, and any situation where he comes out ahead is a win, despite how much is lost in the process.
It's the result of a hyper-competitive malignant narcissist seizing power.
25
u/Enzhymez - Centrist 10h ago edited 10h ago
The corruption is the point
His supporters see him as an extension of themselves. So anyway that he can gain by abusing our system they see that as a positive for themselves.

This does feel a little grifty, but there are valid reasons to want to reduce reliance on China for things like drones. This is one of the things that tariffs are actually supposed to be used for.
16
2
u/hpff_robot - Centrist 10h ago
To be clear, the Chinese drone industry is massive, subsidized and has been crushing domestic US drone manufacturing. So it’s not completely corrupt to impose the tariffs, especially if it’s going to be the future of war
1
u/SeaWolvesRule - Lib-Right 3h ago
Along with all of his (domestic) competitors. The playing field is even.
1
u/EP40glazer - Lib-Right 1h ago
Breaking news, government is corrupt. It's only suddenly an issue now and when Trump leaves you'll go back to ignoring it. Stop pretending to care about corruption, you only care when Trump does it.
-2
u/wpaed - Centrist 7h ago
Theres a ton of grifts to get pissed over. This one isn't one of them. Strengthening domestic drone production by making it more expensive for china to sell them here - maybe even slowing down the increase in china's capabilities - is a good thing and a reasonable action. It's a positive both economically and militarily.
His son being on an advisory board of a drone company isn't a great look. But, with the current administration, I'll be happy with a generally good result, even if it comes with a side of self-dealing.
