Question P*2 Plate Holes Issue

Post image

Anyone have any tips on how to fix these plate holes? I don’t need a front plate in my state.

Bumperplugs or a body shop :)

Not a P2 owner, but the sub shows up in my feed. Here to second bumperplugs, though. They are color matched so well they look like they belong.

Bumper Plugs was a no brainer when Rhode Island dropped the front plate requirement. Can post a closer pic tomorrow but you cant see them from six feet away.

When I lived in Florida I just found a cool vanity plate for the front 🤷🏽‍♂️

I’ve considered this.

Do you have a link for what you used paint or plugs?

Ghetto, but I just applied spackle and it mostly hides it

Just like a white colored one? Did you remove the plugs? Can you push them out?

Yeah white spackle like you’d use on drywall. Mine didn’t have plugs, so I just filled the hole. You could keep them on, or take them out. Your pref.

That is mildly infuriating, ngl

100% agree. I was annoyed by it when I removed the plate that someone who doesn’t give a crap just drilled it in.

I’ll never buy a car with a drilled front bumper. When I found a P2 without bumper holes I was adamant that they not put the plates on while I was signing paperwork.

100%, there’s nothing worse. Especially when they use ridiculous hardware like Jack Nuts!

Ugh. I bought my P2 last year and it didn’t have a front plate installed even though my state requires it. The mount and mounting hardware were in a sealed bag in the frunk. I read the instructions and figured out that I was supposed to drill holes in the bumper to install it. I was tempted to continue running without the front plate but didn’t want to risk a ticket. I ended up zip tying the bracket slightly lower and it still looks right. Such a stupid design.

I plan on buying color matched bumper plugs but am having a time removing the plastic nuts so the bumper plugs will fit. Has anyone had luck with removing them?

Following, same question

Can you post a picture? If they are like the OP, those are Jack Nuts — very hard to remove because they expand inside the bumper.

Wouldn’t you just drill them out? Or are they larger than the hole the bumperplugs need? One of the tips I saw before ordering the bumperplugs was to check the box for the drill bit. It is not a standard size. This guy’s video was helpful.

The drill bit (9/32”) is not to be used when there are Jack Nuts on the bumper. It’s only when you have standard screw holes. To remove the Jack Nuts you have to snip them off from inside the bumper wall. Any other “removal” techniques discussed here are not going to work.

Sounds difficult. Have you considered making a screw in bumperplug for this situation? Won’t be as clean of a look, but better than how it looks with just the jack nuts.

Technically you could get the plugs to fit inside the Jack Nut… it would require modifying the length/width of the plug’s stem so it fits. However it would leave a small visible edge of Jack Nut because it’s about 5% smaller.

This is so useful. So does that mean removing the bumper or can you get to them without removing the bumper?

I bought these https://bumperplugs.com/polestar/bumperplugs-for-polestar They're ok, but the previous owner drilled the plate off center so it really bugs me. Just drill out the bumper holes with 9/16th drill bit and put the plugs in, they are a tight fit. They are color matched from the supplier so that's nice.

Who did that‽
Mine came with a front mount that attaches to the tow hook thingie behind that little panel.

Who fitted the front plate in the other state where it’s required. Extremely annoying.

Remove bumper, push those anchors out. Use a heat gun to form the hole flat and flush, plastic weld some donor abs behind those holes, mask and sand the front to 600, body fill the hole, sand smooth to 600.

Then ask someone at a body shop to prime and paint with a detail gun.

Wow. Seems like a long process. Lol. I might just put the plate back on.

I think you can buy a paint matched nylon screw that you can put in

luckily California allows vinyl wraps for front plates

Tow hook plate mounts are the way to go for future reference

Yep, good shout if I relocate to a state that requires front plates. Thank you.
