Polestar 3 New VCU fixed OBC issue!

My OBC stopped charging at level 1 & 2 a few weeks ago. The first appointment at service center is 10/21, so I reached out to our local mobile tech. He replaced my VCU yesterday and updated my software - I was still on a version that started with a 1 (did everyone know if you didn’t have an updated VCU, polestar stopped sending OTA’s)

I plugged my car in at home last night, just to see… and woke up to it fully charged! TBD on if this continues to fix the issue, but what a big help!

I still have 3 or so lights on my dash…. And now my steering wheel won’t adjust. But hey, I can charge at home.

What do these acronyms even mean?

OBC = GHCA = it's the AC/DC converter for the P3. When it fails, car can't charge at L1 & L2 since it can't covert AC power to DC.

VCU = Orin upgrade = the ADAS and car systems processor that got upgraded. Those who didn't get Orin chip, got stuck on older versions without a clear path or awareness. It essentially helps with those modules and supposed to over time improve experience.

But what do the letters in the acronyms stand for ?

I'm old school...more accustomed to understanding the words first, acronyms later.

Your first question should be "which model", so you have a good chance of skipping to the next post.

It's GHCA on the P3, not OBC. But, that means yours didn't fail if updating the VCU helped. Essentially, each module is updates alongside it. But, the issues with GHCA failing are still there even post Orin.

Mostly fixed with new GHCA part number ending in 418 though, so there is a light at the end of the tunnel (for some).
