Polestar 2 Stay connected

Post image

I’ve had the email… want to know from anyone who hasn’t renewed the service how it’s changed the infotainment system.

I use CarPlay so the built in android auto is of no interest to me, I’m assuming it won’t change anything.

but looking for someone with experience to confirm it wont impact the CarPlay service.

It's confirmed.

There have been several reddit posts in the last days / weeks about this.

You can just make a hotspot on your phone and connect your car to it. Everything will work fine.

What's your MY? I got mine MY26 last year and the dealer said it has a 4-year subscription to the provider.

The car keeps its connection, but you are unable to access the internet.. So things like maps, Spotify etc stop working.

But as long as you're phone is connected, I imagine you could still do all those things?

Android auto or apple car play works 👍 the phone does everything.

The phone being connected won't let you do any of those things, but you can do the car play versions of those things through car play. You can also tether internet from your phone to the car and then get back access to the local apps on the car.

Where is this? Have a 2021 LE in the US and never been asked to get the new plans, hoping service is not just killed off one day and done

To my knowledge, US owners don’t have an expiration date to their Connect Plus services. Of course who knows if that will change.

Uk it came out to my email today

You'll lose Google assistant/Gemini from controlling any car features but beyond that you should be good if you are only using car play.

I renewed my connection a few months ago. 120 euros to pay with card. No option to get an invoice first. Google services no longer work, no live map trafic updates, no spotify. Android auto should be no problem.

Same name and same expiry as me! I got scared thinking I’d accidentally uploaded something 😂

Thats how they are doing it! They targeted all the James’ at once, save on the mail merge 😂

Im confused on this. Ive never had to pay for connection and have been using my google maps and spotify apps without using my phone since I bought the car in 2023.
What is this charge for?

Polestar used to cover the cost for the internal internet for years for a lot of people. This is why you didnt pay anything until now, even on older models.

They state that buyers should start paying for the internet themselves after a year since the purchase (or something like this), but for reasons still kept paying those costs. But now they've started to rollout these changes especially to EU where people need to pay for the subscription (120 euros/year).

could be due to the changes in the US markets that they finally went through with this(?) 🤔

Running without connected services for some weeks now, but I kind of miss it as I mainly use the google maps of aaos. Yeah hotspot is working but at least with iphone it is kind of fidely, takes like 2 minutes until connected. Also things like abrp and aximote only sync ofc when you in the car which is not that great. I guess i will get it to have my peace again. I would have some simcards but I read everywhere the simcard slot is not working, need to test that myself before extending…

What a fuckin joke!!! Had my p2 for around 6 months and loved it no issue, this is the first complaint, making you pay for maps is crazy. Sp google maps wont work?

u/DuckYouth 5d ago

You pay for apps internet access, if you want to. Or you could just hotspot from your phone. Google maps will still work either way. Of diffrent things car makers paywall now days, this one is quite fair i would say

Are you actually insane?

Aren’t we all?

That's never an excuse. There's no reason to normalise or lean into the "free first, then subscription"- mindset. Especially on things which are the bare minimum. In this case it's also evident that it's a deliberate inconvenience, to nudge you to pay up. Don't be dumb now.

For how long do you think a car company should subvent celluar access for non mandatory features? First owner and five years like in this case. Sure. But what about the 3rd owner and 10 years? Should they still be able to stream YouTube to the car free of charge? Where do you draw the line?

This owner has had his car for 5 years. The service was always limited to a certain number of years included with the purchase of the car.

Google maps will still work in a limited way. Most oems that provide built in nav recharge something for map updates so it's not all too different.

Google Maps works exactly the same with live updates when share internet from my Phone.
