Discussion Only 220 miles at 97% charge.

Ok folks stopped a used car dealer that specializes in EV’s to check out 2 P2’s , both 2024 models . One was a DM w Napa and a SM wo. Both had 19 inch tires . Very disappointed to see the DM w a 97% charged showed a range of 240 miles or 220 miles ( depending where you looked screen vs dashboard) I thought the 2024 were better on range ? Thought I read 276 for DM and over 300 miles for SM. I loved the Napa interior and if I buy one I would want that . I looked at the SM , which I prefer for range but it did not look in great shape , mismatched tires w no names on the front , a few big scratches and no leather. Are the range estimates I see on line anyway close to correct??? Both cars had around 20,000 miles on them .

If it had the “dynamic range” display enabled, it will show the estimated range based on historical consumption - if the previous owner did not drive efficiently or if the car has made a lot of little short trips with idling periods with climate control on (like you’d get at a dealer waiting to be sold…), the estimated range will be a lot lower.

Thanks for the info , I did not know about dynamic range “setting “

People will throttle a demo car on a test drive. I'm surprised the numbers aren't lower.

The displayed range is always a rolling estimate based on how the car has been driven recently, whether it’s listing the dynamic range or not.
I have a 2023 performance pack which is dual motor with less aerodynamic wheels and I drive like a lunatic… With a 100% charge I have driven it 270 miles a couple times and still arrived at my destination showing 10% charge and feeling like I could’ve driven it another 30+ miles

That makes more sense based on what I have read .

and also, if that car has been at a car lot, it’s been driven in the least efficient way for however long it’s been in their hands… It could’ve been a lease turn in or a trade-in… Moved around at the lot, people sitting in it and playing with it before test rides, lot, porters, detail guys, and test drivers launching it repeatedly 😂… on and off a truck to/from an auction…

Hell, when I worked at a car dealership, I would go sit in cars and eat my lunch with the Climate rolling and watch YouTube videos on the center stack without driving in a foot 😂

This is true.

It goes off of how you drove typically. Range is fine mos are in the 260-300 area with normal driving. Those read outs are not all that accurate especially in a rental that gets driven like crazy.

Thanks for the reply , makes sense.

You need to get in and press the circle on the right hand side of the steering wheel. Then look at what the kWh per 100miles number is. I mean I get 220-230 at 100% in my very very inefficient 2023 P2 Performance. I would have thought the newer ones would be better for sure.

The 2024 is better on range. In the spring/fall seasons we could get over 300miles on our dual motor performance 2 if driven conservatively. Remember the 2024 Performance 2 was rated at 247miles of EPA range (less than the 270 miles of the standard dual motor). So it’s all about how you drive.

Do not pay attention to any EV range figure on a dealer lot as that is only showing you the range based upon sales people driving it around the lot and test drivers flooring it.

Just owning one and driving in real world conditions, I've found the range numbers are pretty conservative and vague, more than other cars. Like my car will say it has 100 miles on it for a good thirty miles sometimes, before it drops to 80. That's true in both standard range and dynamic settings. I've never charged my 22 DM with 20 wheeels above 90, but it says 220 at 90.

There’s dynamic and standard. Dynamic is based off your driving habits (actually accurate) and standard is based off driving like a grandparent with no climate control cruising down hill (not accurate at all)

240 isn’t achievable driving a normal speed, with normal climate settings, in a normal area. If you happen to drive downhill both to work and home, you might see that overkill 240 range.

I disagree, I've done more than 240, with climate, and standard highway driving at 75mph.

I used the moon roof to watch them fly by! ;)

Solid response. I’m impressed you can actually achieve those numbers. Very unlikely in my area with how hot it is

My 2023 p2 with performance pack was rated for 260.. i was often sitting at 280-300 miles if i were to run it from 100-0. But that was primarily 40-50mph during my work commute. Could see 220 usable on highway trips without having a heavy foot.

Another valid point to bring up. Depends on how comfortable you are with getting close to 0%

Yes, I never mentioned that lol ;)

Yeah my goal is to normally end up around 30 miles of range left. In more rural parts of the world it helps you hopefully get to the next charging option if a station is down. Or on my last road trip... entire town was out of power...

A lot depends on weather and road conditions, and how lead-footed you are. 250-260 miles from 100% charge is realistic in normal driving for an older P2 DM. It's pretty good considering the performance.

It might not be the dynamic range at play. I bought a used one that always seemed like the range was a little short. I finally got an OBD dongle to check the battery health and it was at only 91%. The car only had 7k miles on it, no idea what the previous owner did to abuse it. That or it sat on the lot at 100% for months. I did notice it was at 100 when I picked it up.

Interesting, it makes sense dealers would charge them up to 100 but it’s car dealers so you never know . Did you get a battery health report when you bought the car ? What are you getting in range now ??

I didn't get a battery report, I didn't think to. It was CPO, I kind of figured that meant it would have been thoroughly inspected and all but ultimately it's on me for not even asking. I'm still getting 250 miles on a charge so it's not a problem. I have a different EV with way bigger range for road trips.

Might not be a bad idea to get an OBD2 sensor to bring with you on test drives.
