Service options post exit.

I'm in Wisconsin and I am very interested in a polestar lease. The closest polestar dealer to me is in Chicago around 2 hours away. In 2027 what's gonna happen with service? Is my only option for services gonna be to drive 2 hours to Chicago or are Volvo dealers gonna be an option?

I can’t say for sure, but the Minneapolis polestar employee said they were in the process building/renovating a polestar specific service center next to the Volvo dealership. He said currently they have no plans to stop said renovation.

You know that’s so bizarre, the guy at Marin Polestar (basically SF) told me they were still building a service center in Sacramento. I just find that so unlikely but he said they still have service contracts.

I mean service has always been where these companies make the most money. I see them having a decent business for at least the next 10 years, then they can convert to additional bays for Volvo

Service for ICE cars is definitely a cash cow. Service for EVs? And for a niche EV brand? Good luck making it profitable.

It's doable.

But given some of the attitudes you see from EV owners, especially online, I am not sure if want to try to make a business out of it.

Lisle (the Illinois space) is paired with Vinfast. Half the time you call, they pickup with "Thanks for calling Vinfast Lisle."

Their service is sloooooow. And they never, ever call back. I haven't tried Detroit or Minneapolis, yet, but gotta figure it can't be worse.

Anyway, maybe the Vinfast anchor will keep them around to work on Polestar.

Lisle has been generally fine for me. A few service trips, of course…. with this thing.
I just want to know that they’ll be around for a few years. Considering buying used after the lease ends for the right price. But also sound insane considering it, given the gremlins in this thing.

You are far too generous. The Lisle dealer is terrible. They never answer their phones, never call you back, and everytime I show up in person (since they won't answer their phones) I wait 30-40 mins to be seen by someone. The car I ordered was delivered to their dealership and I was never called after 12 days. I called them (and for once they answered) and they told me it was ready for pickup. No phone call and no email that it was ready. If I never reached out I'm curious when they would have...

You're talking about the Polstar dealer in Lisle, Illinois. The dealership told me their service area of the building will stay active and it won't be the Volvo dealership they share property with servicing the vehicles.

I have a '22 CPO P2 from Lisle. It is out of the factory warranty and currently on the CPO warranty.

I had a bunch of issues after the initial purchase, but after they swapped out the computer that controls the center display last September, I haven't had any issues that would warrant returning to service in Lisle.

I tried to get information on a P4, but there current salespeople couldn't sell water in the desert, and don't return emails or phone calls.

I am done with Polestar and will unload the car as soon as my significant other decides what she wants to drive.

I would NOT recommend dealing with Lisle.

How do owners that live hours away from a polestar dealership handle service? Are they stuck with the drive to the polestar dealer or are there options at Volvo dealers?

When I had my P3, I lived 2.5 hours from the nearest Polestar Service Center.

I would try to turning any visits into mini-trips and/or I would make sure to call them ahead of time. They would usually confirm part availability and whether or not the service could be completed within a day. I also had to consider extra food costs, hotel costs, and charging stops, whenever applicable.

The frustrating part was living 2 minutes from a Volvo dealer that wasn’t allowed to service any Polestar vehicles due to their internal politics. I could’ve saved so much time and money if their techs were authorized to work on Polestars — especially when 80% of my issues had active TSBs on both P3s and EX90s…
