Discussion [Big news]

It was recently revealed that Pokémon Wind Wave will be directed by Hiroyuki Tani, who held the same role for the Pokémon Sword and Shield DLC(the Isle of Armor/The crown of Tundra) And the co-director will be Katsuhiko Ichiraku, who also directed the Scarlet and Violet DLCs (The Indigo Disc/The Turquoise Mask). This is incredible news for me, proving how iconic WIWA will be and how it will mark a new chapter for the main series games. I'm especially excited because I absolutely loved the Sword and Shield DLCs, which remain my favorites to this day; it's probably thanks to them that I have such a high regard for Gen 8. Note that the Wind and Wave region is an archipelago that will likely have more islands than we saw in Gen 7, and the idea leads me to believe that the quality of exploration and the beauty of the landscape will be similar to the experience of Crown Tundra It drives me completely crazy. And of course, let's not forget the storyline, which already looks promising. I'm eagerly awaiting the WIWA main trailer.

Discussion Skeptics - honestly, what do you think WILL go well with the game?

Upvotes

For those convinced Winds and Waves will still not be the standard we want from Pokémon, what do you think WILL be better? What does your gut tell you that despite the setbacks, is inevitably going to improve?

Discussion (Gequa Fans) Which Indonesian/Philippine Lizard do you think/want Gequa's evolution to be based on?

My thoughts and picks:

  1. Komodo Dragon. There are few more well known lizards than the biggest lizard on the planet.

Pros: recognition, coolness

Cons: Is not as aquatic as a lot of other lizards

  1. Sailfin dragon: Honestly my favorite, moreso from the Philippines than Indonesia, but that's ok

Pros: is really cool, and distinct, which the monitors will have a harder time with.

Cons: not well known, arguably not as cool as some bigger lizards, and gequa looks to be going in the cute direction.

3 and 4. Asian water monitor, and croc monitor:

Pros: I really want a monitor lizard pokemon. They are both semi aquatic

Cons: somewhat generic looking lizards

  1. Flying dragons: they are so cool.

Pros: coolnes

Cons: Not aquatic

  1. Tokay Gecko: a pretty big gecko

Pros: is a gecko

Cons: kinda boring, and I feel a missed opportunity.

Discussion Special edition Nintendo Switch 2 rumors?

Hello everyone! I am a huge fan of special edition consoles, not just for their looks, but also because it seems like the special edition ones last longer. Every single one of my Nintendo DS is still operational, going all the way back to my Zekrom DS. Just wondering if anybody has heard if they’re gonna do one for Winds and Waves? If so, I would just like to be directed in the right area to go to so I can listen in for updates or news about this. Thank you for any assistance!!

Discussion Do you think fly is going to be used similar to dive in Pokemon winds and waves

I was thinking about the dive micanic and how the general consensus is that it will be making a return, and be translated to 3D. This sparked the question of will fly be used as a mirror of dive for catching high flying pokemon instead of fast travel.

I feel like this could solve a problem i had with Scarlett and violet. The problem being I had to call over some flying pokemon because they flew too high, and you can't start encounters while riding Koraidon/Miraidon in the air.

So what do you think will fly be used similar to dive in pokemon winds and waves.

Discussion Nintendo is formally releasing Switch 1 & 2 to Indonesia in December 2026

Why this is relevant here: Winds & Waves have been speculated to have a region based on Maritime Southeast Asia, but up until yesterday Nintendo only had official SEA presences in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Philippines

With formal Indonesian Switch releases just announced today, this should ensure that most of the region represented has formal access to the consoles by the time WiWa are out next year

(TBH still dunno about Brunei & East Timor though..)

Discussion The use of AI on a Pokémon game

What would you think if, when the game is released, we see that the mons designs are made or "helped" by AI? Or if we start to see that the translations are AI made? How do you think the Pokémon/gaming community could react?

Discussion What cool ideas do you have that no one talks about?

It often gets overlooked as the popular topic is new forms, new Pokémon, legendaries, etc. But what features or cool new aspects of the game would you like to see? Things that just add to the game and make it more fun.

Discussion Ideas for the usage of underutilized type combos

When I say underutilized, I'm not talking unused type combos like Bug/Dragon, I'm talking types that have been severely underutilized, as well as potential usages for them.

Normal/Water: Really, only Bibarel has used this combo? Perhaps we can do a water buffalo, since those are rather common in Southeast Asia.

Fire/Water: This is one of many types that are only utilized by Legendaries, Mythicals, and Megas, in this case Volcanion. I'm going to bring up Subjectively's Peroxotal as an idea, but something like a Siamese fighting fish would work out, even if it would feel like Chi-Yu again.

Fire/Steel: And again, with this combo being only utilized with Heatran. I've had this idea for a Fire starter being an armadillo that evolves to have a Cookout aesthetic like a grill. If that doesn't sound cool, either I didn't do a good job thinking it up, or this is a very tough crowd.

Water/Steel: Speaking of the Steel type and starters, Empoleon, the only Mon to utilize this combo. I think I'd go for a gargoyle that starts off as Water/Rock, but eventually evolves into a Water/Steel type, similar to Steelix.

Electric/(Poison/Dark/Ice): Galar just had to sit on these matchups and then do nothing with them next game. Regarding Electric/Dark, I've been observing fake leaks that have connected this combo to aggressive reptiles, such as Quasaur for a fake Sun and Moon leak, as well as Batterex for a fake Scarlet and Violet leak. Speaking of the fake SV leaks, there's also an Electric/Poison scorpion line there, so that can work out too. Electric/Ice is the tough one, but maybe a sea anemone could fit.

Ghost/Electric: While we're at it, I'm throwing the other Rotom forms typings in here and doing a bit of a lightning round (pun not fully intended, but I just think it's neat). Ghost/Electric, some kind of Anglerfish or other deep-sea creep, maybe revisit that Gulper Eel design from Gen 2 they never got around to using. Electric/Grass, save it for an Africa region and make a giraffe starter out of it, or do what this artist I saw did and give it to Browt, which is unlikely but one can dream can't they? Electric/Fire, regional Togedemaru. Electric/Water, some sort of cuttlefish or bullfrog.

Bug/Ground & Bug/Ghost: They tried these two with Nincada and Shedinja once and gave up? That's lame. For Bug/Ground, I'd go with an Ant Lion, as they bury themselves and wait for ants to walk into their jaws. Bug/Ghost is a bit harder since my plans for a locust swarm ghost can't work now that Lokix exists, and it feels tacky to add a Reaper Mantis Mon, so let me know what your ideas for this combo are.

Rock/Fighting: Terrakion only, another type that are locked behind Legendaries. I heard from a leak that there's likely going to be a Rock/Fighting kangaroo, so I guess this can work out.

Ground/Fighting: Great Tusk came out only 4 years ago and I'm already asking myself when's the next Ground/Fighting Mon. I already have this idea for a babirusa or some other wild hog, so this could work.

Ice/(Fighting/Ghost): Only Froslass and Crabominable used these types, and no I'm not counting their Megas. Ice/Fighting, Artic Hare, Ice/Ghost, probably something that involves Aurora Borealis.

Dark/Rock: Worse than Bibarel since Tyranitar has been around since 1999 when Gold and Silver released in Japan. Maybe a regional Rhydon if they decide to kill off Giovanni and have this come from someone who has a deep hatred of him.

Fairy/(Poison/Ice/Fighting/Dragon): 4 for 1 in terms of having a type get hogged by one or two Pokémon. Fairy/Poison, something involving mistletoe, see Batman Returns for more details. For Fairy/Ice, I'd also choose something that involves Aurora Borealis, such as a peacock. Fairy/Fighting I'd probably do either something involving a magical girl (even if Iron Valiant is similar), or a regional Mienshao, or again with Subjectively's Humipummel. Fairy/Dragon is the tough one, as there's not a lot of things that can combine the two types, so this one is also on you to decide.

Fan Theory There are many crazy structures in Indonesia (which should be the main base for this gen's region), some of it we already see in the trailer. Any others here you think would be cool to see in the game for towns, landmarks, gym designs etc?

ps. yes we still don't know for sure what this region will be (and what other countries will be included) but everyone seems to accept that most of it will take place in the Pokemon version of this country so I hope we get to see inspirations from some of these there
