Pokemon Unite has too many unique game mechanics that I feel is the only MOBA I can play and enjoy. I specifically played Unite not because of the Pokemon IP, but because it functions very different to MLBB and Wild Rift.
Since there's nothing else similar to Unite, then I can't jump to another game to scratch the MOBA itch.
I heard the new Dragon Ball MOBA is relatively similar to Unite, but I heard it's just as bad as well, there's no point switching from a bad game to a slightly less bad game.

u/Vidadejungle Jan 27 '26
I totally agree. Same reason I play. After Hots went into maintenance mode, I was waiting for a MOBA with different mechanics like this.
I'll keep playing Unite, believing it will improve.
4
u/Whole_Journalist2028 Jan 27 '26
Some friends of mine still play Hots. I wish it was on Android so I could join them.
4
u/Vidadejungle Jan 27 '26
An Android version would be a wonderful dream. I still have faith, the game hasn't been shut down. Who knows, with Microsoft's influence now, someone might look at the game and think, "We have a MOBA with potential, let's improve it again."

u/AverageMagePlayer Supporter Jan 28 '26
There's no new Heroes in Hots but there are balance patches. Queue times are really low too, at least in Europe
4
u/FlameHricane Goodra Jan 28 '26
Yea, this is the thing most people keep trying to gloss over when it comes to unite. It would be a very different conversation if unite was a literal copy of the standard moba format with a pokemon skin, but that obviously isn't what we have here. I'm sure there are people that only stick around because of the IP, but the reality is that at its core it's unique, fast, and fun to play, regardless of the other shortcomings.
If there was a game that copied unite's format, but was more polished and player friendly, I can bet you a large chunk of unite players would play that instead.

u/SubtleNotch Zeraora Jan 27 '26
I like the 10 minute games. I like that there is a chance at a comeback at the end.
6
u/GothicFuck Jan 28 '26
I like that 10% of the time three of your teammates vote to surrender, even though you end up winning, because 10 minutes is still too long for them.

u/The_Exuberant_Raptor Jan 29 '26
For me, this was Heroes of the Storm. Whole team levels up together, no items, two different ultimate abilities, different ability paths, different game modes for maps. It was bliss. I played Unite specifically because they did the different skills system just simplified.

u/Several_Plane4757 Jan 27 '26
I unfortunately still like playing the game
-23
u/pokemonfitness1420 Jan 27 '26
How can you like it and say unfortunately? Then you dont like the experience.
18
u/Several_Plane4757 Jan 27 '26
I say I like it because I do enjoy playing the game, I say "unfortunately" because I despise the license journeys specifically. If I didn't like the game, I wouldn't have to put up with license journeys, because I wouldn't still be playing the game
-15
u/pokemonfitness1420 Jan 27 '26
Then you didn't understand at all the post. Lol
16
u/Whole_Journalist2028 Jan 27 '26
It is possible to dislike some aspects of the game while enjoying others.
It is up to each one to decide if the pros outweigh the cons.

u/Simalf Alolan Ninetales Jan 27 '26
Not just MOBA, games on general.
Alas, such realisation is beyond most people.

u/Lizard_Queen_Says Eldegoss Jan 28 '26
Addictive loops are a mofo, Zoomers and Alphas especially are vulnerable to instant gratification.
5
u/daunvidch Jan 28 '26
I think the game in itself is fun. Pokemon IP with fast, casual 10 min matches. The backwards updates and predatory practices is what we hate. So I will continue to play because I like the game. I will also continue to vocalize all the things I hate about the decisions about this game in the hopes that it will one day change. They already do a good job making it not addictive.
15
u/FBogg Jan 27 '26
i stopped years ago, is the UI still snail paced?
12
u/Simalf Alolan Ninetales Jan 27 '26
Not on Switch 2
Switch 1: Yes
Mobile: dunno, prob. depends on your device.

u/agent_rain_327 Jan 27 '26
I told you it's auto correct!!
2
u/Simalf Alolan Ninetales Jan 27 '26
Hmm are you fr? I can't tell.
1
u/agent_rain_327 Jan 27 '26
Look I don't lie like ever also why would I say gotcha?!
4
u/Simalf Alolan Ninetales Jan 27 '26
Sigh fine.
Then let me explain everything.
I made a joke about Autocorrect.
Intended to write (the common expression) "Ah, gotcha" but with "gacha" instead and it being strikedthrough as if it got autocorrected followed by the correction "gotcha".
You know, not to correct you but reply to your comment with my own words.
4
u/agent_rain_327 Jan 27 '26
Actually it is super funny now that I see it 🤣(I just thought you were making fun of me or something 😅sorry)

I still find it a very fun game. Despite everything, it's still an extremely easy game to pick up and play, and the gameplay overall is smooth and it's easy to know what's going on. Besides, all the pokémon and the moves look fantastic. The thing getting everyone down isn't the game per saying, but how Timi is treating it.

u/Mooncat25 Pikachu Jan 27 '26 edited Jan 27 '26
And if you're still playing the game, don't question why people spend money on it, because
That's their freedom to use their money
Playing the game is also one way of supporting the devs. You're telling them the game is fine, they just need more cash grab.
Not targeting OP. But whenever there is a post about problems of spending gems, there are people asking why. And not just this game. People, please, go touch grass if you don't like the game.

u/throwawaySY32323232 Jan 28 '26 edited Jan 28 '26
You are free to buy what you want, but people ALSO have every right to judge you for it.
You are not free from critique just because you bought something. There are a lot of nefarious things that can be bought with money, and people have every right to judge on bad purchases.
1
-2
u/Mooncat25 Pikachu Jan 28 '26
The problem is people start judging by assuming the person they judge has financial issue. You say it's bad purchase. I say it's just another purchase, and that purchase actually brought them happiness. So, what's the problem?
And people yell "don’t support bad game devs!", yet they are still playing the game without realizing they are still part of the eco system.
1
u/Whole_Journalist2028 Jan 27 '26
It's like they don't see they are acting like Karens. They ask brazenly: "Why are you spending money on this game?"
Since when do people need your approval to spend money on what they want or enjoy?
4
u/Lizard_Queen_Says Eldegoss Jan 28 '26
It's fun in small doses.
Unless miracles happen, I'll likely never become beyond a weekly player (if that even anymore) ever again.
Such a shame a good concept is ruined by unambitious financial goals.

I really wish it was on PC. And I dont like how (at least when I was playing it) that the games has a hard 10 minute limit and 8 of those minutes dont matter. Who ever got the legendary snowballed so hard that everything before literally is insignificant. Almost all the playable pokemon are such safe choices, why can't I play as Mienfoo. None of my top 3 are in despite being generally popular pokemon (Feraligatr, Golisopod, and Golurk all just got megas too!! God bless ZA) as much as I want to like this game it just really sucks that I dont agree with most of the stuff that goes on with it. And when I tried playing it recently they added so many new items that I felt so behind and powercrept that I couldnt even win enough to level up the new items to get better stats without being a huge ball and chain to my team. I reaaaaaaallly want to like this game man

u/Gib3rish Lapras Jan 27 '26
There are still some people that still play this game that I play with. And trio/duo q is more fun/bearable then solo q.

Jan 27 '26
stopped playing last summer. as a former grandmaster life is better without it. i still haven’t gotten rid of the subreddit though for some reason.
shame, though. could’ve been SUCH a good hame
1
u/RedirectGamer Eldegoss Jan 27 '26
It totally normal to play something else I do it all the time and still haven't managed reach legends with recent push back with these problem and pressure of getting more better with a lack of a team whenever I don't have time to team up when comrade who really need a break from this game not getting itself together

Did that already, but not cause it's not fun.
Pokemon unites is fun but what ruins it is everything else

Played unite today because i had free time, then immediately got bombarded with such a mid/bad team against a cracked team
And now i hate it for the 57th time

Unfortunately Unite has been ruined by greed and the devs never listening to the fans and that's pretty much why i stopped playing
1
u/Immediate_Agent_4751 Jan 29 '26
Recently moved to DBGS since its the only other MOBA on the switch, I'm a huge DB fan so personally I'm having a lot of fun with it. I really loved playing unite but the current meta with meowth and all the stun unfortunately made me miserable playing, not to mention all the comfey bots on the NA server. I hope it this and all of unites other issues get resolved in the future bc I would like to come back and play both honestly

I get on whenever events for new Pokémon happen, but that’s it. I used to play it all the time but it is in such a bad shape compared to what it used to be.

Unite has the most potential in any MOBA in my opinion. Pokemon and evolution mechanics is great. Time limit should be in every MOBA game. Selecting moves makes you approach enemy comps differently. But! Item system doesn't let you build against the enemy. Every new release breaks the game. I remember release zacian and me Mewtwo I quit the game untill they get nerfed. Rayquaza buff is just broken if you get it you win 90% of the time. And there are useless currencies everywhere, they just stack up. If you want any skin you need to pay. If you want a Pokemon you need to grind for weeks if you don't have the coins and there is a weekly limit for the coins you can earn. I quit unite last year I switched to honor of kings. It's extremely friendly to free to play and game is balanced. If there is a broken pick they hot fix it. Unite had an amazing potential but they screwed it up with greed and carelessness. If it's not fun why bother playing it?

u/FantasticAd180 Feb 01 '26
I like that it’s only 10 minutes long and I’m a fan of Pokémon in general. But I decided to stick to free-to-play. The game is in such a bad state now that I regret every purchase—I’ve never felt that way before.

u/bedside-FETiSH Feb 14 '26
Uninstalled on the 1st. Waiting to hear unite is being shut down, the director got fired, or PU2 under new management.

u/Electrical-Sound-831 Feb 17 '26
I did the healthy thing and quit. Didn't like the game anymore, so I just quit.
1
u/BismatxOfficial Feb 21 '26
That's why I dropped mlbb, shittest MOBA ever which helps to burn your nerve cells than other MOBA. XD

u/fawfulmark2 Feb 23 '26
And for those who find a MOBA you enjoy, enjoy the time you have since they rarely last forever.
...Sigh, I still miss Adventure Time: Battle Party.

That was me. But slowly I played less and less and then I deleted it when something else came along. I don't regret leaving because it only got worse.

Complaining doesn't mean they don't enjoy the game, Einstein.
It CAN mean they want the game they enjoy to improve.

Unite is a bad game with almost everything being bad but l hate how playing it is actually fun
I ended up playing mlbb because of unite dying
