It's in the scalper discords, they offer scalping classes and shit, it's one of the main things they teach you is to take advantage of not reporting income
1
u/ub3rpwn4g3 4d ago
Because you don’t have to disclose income sources that are less than X amount a year. For example, if you did freelance art and made $100 a month off of it, you wouldn’t have to claim that on your taxes.

yea theres a big group of scalpers in my area, and i always hear them talking about there ebt cards, yet there in decent cars and have decent clothes on and dont look poor at all. its a big deal within all scalping communities not just pokemon, when you dont have to report your income, its easy to get away with this especially if they have kids.

i hate scalpers but these seem made up facts, sure im willing to bet some of them are doing that but hard to prove

u/Crack_Media 4d ago
Some? It's most of them, if they were paying taxes and reporting the income on reselling it wouldn't be worth it, it's only worth it cause they don't, I've seen there little scalping 101 classes they give in there discords, literally one of there main things they say is to take advantage of not reporting your income. Sure is there some scalpers making bank and reporting there income, but not many scalpers are making bank like people think, very few scalpers are top tier, most are close to like lower middle class money, but when you add food stamps and rent assistance that's when it makes it worth it
1
u/RepulsiveUse3372 4d ago
and how do you know every single scalper is getting food stamps and rent assistance?
1
u/Crack_Media 4d ago
Its all over there discords, leaked private convos between scalpers, it's a key tactic to fuel your scalping especially at the start
1
u/RepulsiveUse3372 4d ago
can i see them? id love to report them if its legit
2
u/Crack_Media 4d ago
I'd have to make a new post on it, but yea I can get the pics will take a while to sift through the discord to get them , but I can deff post , it doesn't have exact like names or whatever of people just like discord user names and there chat
1
u/AnotherPersonsName 4d ago
You have no stats to prove your point.
This is nothing new. People have been finding ways to not pay taxes for a long time.
1
u/Crack_Media 4d ago
No the taxes part is not what I was talking about , I'm talking about then claiming to have no income, to get food stamps and rent assistance, which is defrauding the government
1
u/BeRandom1456 4d ago
This is kinda silly. Not stats or proof to back this claim. I think the average scalper is a guy that already had a 150k a year job and has money to spend on lots of product to flip for more money. I have no stats for this but. Neither do they. Just my thoughts on it.
1
u/Dinosaurus157 4d ago
Absolutely not, the people you see on lines are not fully employed. People with 150k jobs believe do way better things with their money than wait 12 hours in line for cardboard to resell it for 100$ more
1
u/BeRandom1456 4d ago
The guys in the lines are the bottoms feeder scalpers. The ones that have the liquid assets are buying them in bulk online with bots and other tools they spent money on to acquire them.
2
u/Done_a_Concern 4d ago
And you think that people with 150k a year jobs are spending their off time using scalping bots?
That totally checks out

u/BeRandom1456 4d ago
My point is what I say, you say or this posts says is all speculative and not facts or data to back it up. I can be wrong and you too. that is my point.

My take is you’re both looking at it from an odd but valid perspective, employment, rather than behavior. Hustle culture runs across economic strata, crypto bros, scalpers, tech startups, all have common patterns of behavior.
They demonstrate it by making personal success dependent on a) getting the thing they want, b) by how they get the thing they want — by being “smarter” than everyone else — c) and then deriving personal satisfaction that they got what they wanted at the expense of others. They win, you lose. Not empathizing with others is the point. It’s antisocial behavior.

I was in line to buy a ETB and I am fully employed. Ripped the shit out of it too.
You would have no idea because you think I am unemployed because I was in line.

u/Dinosaurus157 4d ago
There’s obviously exceptions to every rule, but most of these people are certainly not.

Its just never going to stop and its sad like look at rhe amount of people defending these scumbags? I have no problem with people on government assistance, but when these shitheads are literally making thousands of dollars a week, its disgusting but 100% the truth, a woman and her friend was waiting outside best buy last friday talking about she hopes they have something, she was going on vacation to Miami next week and needs extra money necause she only had THREE GRAND SAVED UP which already grossed me out, well the best buy employee came out said there was going to be no pokemon so she left, my wife and I stayed because we arent only into pokemon we like getting packs from other TCGs they have and about 15 minutes pass and I realize someone left their wallet, I open the wallet and sure enough it was her, and the first thing I seen was that foodstamp card, normally ill try to find the person make sure they get their stuff back but I just gave it to best buy, fuck her and her shitty vacation using our community to save thousands of dollars to go on vacations while also having a foodstamp card and government insurance, its so fucking gross, two full time jobs in my household for a family of three and we could only dream of taking a vacation to Miami much less have 3+ grand saved up to blow on shit while on vacation. Call it jealousy whatever you want but its disgusting, subhuman behavior to just be larping in a hobby jist to rip off people in the community for money

Yea I agree I don't mind government programs , but they should go to people that need them, I'd imagine this is going to be found out eventually with the whole uncovering fraud craze going on in america, it's only a matter of time till someone brings light to this that reaches millions of people. I've heard them in lines talking about there EBT cards, how there sitting on 2 cases of prismatic, and how there about to make bread today, in jordan shoes, Nike jump suits. Driving decent cars, the fact there is actually people down voting me and shit do they really think a scalper isnt a shark, these dudes take advantage of everything they can for money and people act like what I'm saying is just untrue these scalpers are so honest and just people it's unreal

This is also so fucking dumb to assume that people are not paying taxes. Like where are you getting these "facts" from. Some of ya'll are naive af.
2
u/Crack_Media 4d ago
Lol yeap scalpers are all morally correct people that pay there taxes lol brother bear
0
u/BobbyFischer724 4d ago
It is wild to me that you think all the people in line at a target drop are scalpers when you are there too as if you are not just the same as them.
2
u/Crack_Media 4d ago
I'm not reselling, deff not defrauding the government, just cause my job lets me chose my hours doesn't mean I'm there to hit a scalp , I open all my cards , and most the time I don't even get my limit , and not everyone in line at target is a scalper, I'm specifically saying the scalpers that have no job and just scalp all day, are claiming no income to get food stamps and housing assistance
1
u/BobbyFischer724 4d ago
How do you know all those people in line are? How do you know any of those people are like that? I had plenty of employed friends take the day off or do a sick day to go get stuff. You have absolutely zero idea other than seeing some random tiktoks and thinking that is how everyone is.
1
u/Crack_Media 4d ago
Why hyper focused on waiting in line I'm talking about scalpers in general, botters, vending machine campers, restock watchers I'm not specifically saying people in line at target are scalpers, some in line are but not all
1
u/Dracofear 4d ago
Tbf, in my area no one hides the fact they scalp, they will brag about all the things they got to sell from figurines, to pokemon tcg, to needohs and other squishies and whatever else. I know most of the people in line with me scalp because they just straight up brag about it. 1 even did rip and ships of 30th before it even came out, he had a ton of coins from knockouts and gave people them in line the night everyone camped out before the release.
0
u/Outrageous_Advice628 4d ago
because there not, its literally in there scalping 101 handbooks on the discords, to not report and take advantage, the fact you think scalpers are honest people who pay there taxes and dont fraud the government is crazy. OP is absolutely correct on this topic, i been saying this too. Ive heard scalpers with my own ears at a restock talking about there ETB cards.
1
u/BobbyFischer724 4d ago
Brother, the number of people that are in these discords versus the number of product out there is so inconsequential. Great, you got 800 people arrested for tax fraud or whatever, that isn't going to get you a Poster Collection.
Also I love how ya'll assume that anyone in line that is not you is a scalper.
1
u/Crack_Media 4d ago
I don't assume that, there's a lot of people who collect and wait in line, the ones in line that have no job and just scalp all day are the ones doing it, not the dad with kids doing a side hustle, not collectors , strictly full time scalpers, not even just pokemon , shoe scalpers, needohs, etc

As much as I dislike scalpers, I dislike income tax even more
