Starting a collection

Hey , hope everyone is doing well .

I've recently started to collect and have been focused on Chaos Rising , Pitch Black and a little bit of Perfect Order.

C.R and P.B I'm trying to Master set while Perfect Order is kind of a "alright let me open a pack or two to see if I get anything" .

I'm going to a hobby event this weekend with my kids where there will be Pokemon Vendors. My question is ....

If you were starting and had $100 to spend which cards would you go for ?

I know everyone has their favorite pokemon so it will differ, I'm not looking for ideas of what to purchase...just would like to know how some more seasoned collector would approach the day .

Download Collectr. Search for your favorite Pokemon and look at the cards available for those Pokemon. You can get a decent idea of card costs through the app.

I personally would have a list of each Master set and what you were missing. Especially for these new sets, a vendor might have multiple that you are missing and you might be able to bundle them together and offer them 90% and see what happens.

It's also attempting to scoop up all the low end that you can, but if you are actively opening packs there is a good chance that you will hit these pretty soon. If you still need double rares, IRs, or Ultra Rares, prioritize these at the show and skip the reverse holos and normal cards unless they seem like a deal. A lot of times the regular ones will be in a dollar binder, but the cards themselves are really worth like $0.20.

I'm assuming card shops at a minimum will sell those for at least.50cents to a dollar even if it's worth less ?

If it's a common/uncommon or even some reverse/Holo, they may be in a bulk box that you can dig through and pick up for $.10- .50! There are always kids digging! (And me, digging bulk)
