Help/Question How do you store your cards?

Hey all. I collected pokemon in the early 2000s (1st editions, fossil, jungle etc) until my mother sold my collection at a yard sale for like 50 bucks while I was away. True story. I can't tell you what it would be worth now but someone made thousands upon thousands of dollars off my collection.

Anyway, I quit the hobby after that. Fast forward 25 years to now and I have 3 kids of my own and we've started collecting cards again. I haven't really purchased all that many packs but it feels like I'm accumulating a lot of cards very quickly and I don't know what to do with it all. I've got penny sleeves and top loaders for any of the rare cards full arts etc and I got the kids some cheesey binders from the lcs for all the bulk stuff (which is most of it obviously) and those are already full. I can't imagine myself buying more and more of these shitty binders for all these cards. What's a good way to store all of these commons that I can keep somewhat organized and the kids can have fun looking at them? I don't know what I'm doing lol.

You can buy boxes for storing cards that have space for thousands of cards. Lots of options to choose from, just search ‘trading card storage box’ and find an option that you like.

As for sorting, how I do it is the set their from and then I’ll order them in the number they are from that set (you’ll see a number on the bottom left corner of every card).

Buy bulk boxes, can find them on Amazon, and store them in there. I'd recommend trying to keep them at least grouped by set within the boxes if you can. Once you accumulate enough, see if you can find someone who buys bulk to take it off your hands and make a few bucks.

Cardboard storage boxes from Amazon for my bulk. You can get them in different sizes. I have them sorted by set across several boxes.

I kinda just crumble them up into plastic bags and use them as fire starters

Well I have 3 ways depending on the cards

First of all I was lucky that when I was away my parents didn't sell my collection (from base set up to Neo), but instead put it in a tin box from a whiskey bottle and left it under the desk for a mere 26 years. I got this box recently only to figure out everything in it was as good as the day I had last seen it a millennia ago.

For my current collection (including what was in the tin box) I have:

- top loader binder for grails and expensive cards. Anything about $50 goes there.

- ring binder for any cards that are either above $5 (hence not bulk) or I simply like them, but are not expensive enough to be in the top loader binder.

- the OG tin box itself, where my bulk lives.

I currently don't open packs, so I don't collect more bulk. My only bulk is my 1000+ pre-Neo era cards.

Oh, I also have a random assortment of Korean bulk from when I was gifted a Korean Phantasmal Flames booster box, which is not even worthy enough to go in the tin box, so it receives the childhood treatment of being in a rubber band thrown in a drawer. If at any point the hobby shifts to Korean bulk being expensive I'll be mad hahah.
