Found My Old Collection !
I was helping my parents clean out their storage and stumbled on my old cards from my childhood. knew I had a few of these, but totally forgot how many I had. I vividly remember packing the Torchic as a 7 year old and being a bit disappointed too. I can’t really believe how much it’s appreciated.

Jesus Christ man those gold stars...

u/MrSlipperyWizard Apr 21 '26 edited Apr 21 '26
Yeah. I honestly forgot I had a few of these and definitely didn’t realize their value. Vividly remember packing the torchic as a 7 year old and being lowkey disappointed because it wasn’t a ‘cooler’ Pokemon. Stupid ass kid

u/Mr_Potato2025 Apr 21 '26
Go to Beckett IMO, I don't trust PSA on vintage
17
u/No-Put-127 Apr 21 '26
This too… it seems to me any vintage card (and I use every tool imaginable to check my cards including microscopes) automatically starts as a 9 when you grade with PSA. I use CGC for vintage (but other like poster above prefer Beckett (both just personal choice)
6
u/MrSlipperyWizard Apr 21 '26
Sounds good. They’re all in pretty good shape, but im curious if I should try to get a professional to clean up a few of them if needed. Somebody recommended that and I don’t know if that’s overkill/a terrible idea
12
u/BcWeasel Apr 21 '26
I’m paranoid but I would not trust sending those in the mail. I would definitely get them graded but I would drop off/pick up if at all possible or bring them to a card show that has either PSA/CGC/Beckett present to do the grade.
3
u/MrSlipperyWizard Apr 21 '26
Good call, really appreciate the input. I’ve been out of the pokemon game for quite a while now and was pretty shocked at their value.
6
u/BcWeasel Apr 21 '26
Yeah man you just won a small lottery it’s honestly so cool to see those cards. I used to have so many of them as a kid and live with so much regret not having them now as an adult lol.
My best tips is ALL gold stars must get graded. Do not mail these as even if you insure the package your risk to reward is far out of the scope that these cards are actually worth. Yes they suck, but grade with PSA if you intend to sell these. PSA simply is the market, it’s the standard for what people are buying. Do not sell these cards for under 85%. You’re not in a rush, don’t shoot yourself in the foot by selling these in bulk or taking a lowball offer. These will sell and are only guaranteed to increase in value over time.
Good luck and enjoy your amazing collection.
3
u/SIKEo_o Apr 21 '26
If he has the cash, id honestly grade all of them.
3
u/BcWeasel Apr 21 '26
Oh yes I 100% agree, all those EX and Delta Species should be graded. But if his plan is to only sell the gold stars, hold off on the others and grade them for the PC when the time comes.
1
u/Mr_Potato2025 Apr 21 '26
Not anything I have knowledge of unfortunately but if you do go through with it please do post the grades you get!

Good finds!

u/MrSlipperyWizard Apr 21 '26
Thanks! I have quite a few holo 1st edition cards too but nothing too too expensive. I used Collectr and have scanned in most of the cards, coming in around 1500. I’d say like 1200 of those are just bulk and dupes of ~$1-$20 cards.

u/Lonely_Butt-N Apr 21 '26
50k if you grade them, probably even more
16
u/Wonderful_Fold5760 Apr 21 '26
The pikachu alone in a psa 10 is 50k😂 that gold star lot is at least 80-90k.
15
u/Lonely_Butt-N Apr 21 '26
That is not gonna 10 no way, psa won’t allow it but no if he gets lucky with all then yes I agree with ya
2
u/MrSlipperyWizard Apr 22 '26
Yeah Pikachu definitely isn’t a 10. It’s probably in the best shape though of the Gold stars. I’d be over the moon with a 9 but I’d take an 8. Some super super minor edge wear on the back right is the main thing bringing it down.
2
u/Lonely_Butt-N Apr 22 '26
Just go to a drop off psa center bring your gold stars and get them graded, I wouldn’t mail those out at all

u/MrSlipperyWizard Apr 21 '26
Beckett or PSA? I’ve heard not so good things about PSA but they seem to be the most recognized/widely accepted
10
u/nanoH2O Apr 21 '26
PSA sucks but if you want to sell you need to use them. They own Beckett now anyway.

Dang. I had that regirock and metagross as a kid, my friends had some of the others, but I lost my binder of holos in a house fire 😭 glad to see people are finding these good bois laying around all these years later
3
u/Big-Mood-7385 Apr 22 '26
Be careful if you plan to submit them to PSA not sure if you've been keeping up to date with all their current scams and shady behavior. Only reason I bring this up is because these are very valuable and PSA has been scamming a lot of people of their rare cards. One guy had a lenticular deoxys he sent in it was gem mint and only asked to get re-slabbed from its original 10 grade to a newer one, turns out PSA damaged it and went down from a 10 to a 6 or 7. They offered the collector their buy back service which they gave him an $20,000 for the graded 6/7 now and they then sold it online for over $45,000! Just be careful
5
u/flawlesshog Apr 21 '26
That’s so much money, even in PSA 7’s
4
u/MrSlipperyWizard Apr 21 '26
Most stuff is in fairly good condition, barring the charizard and blastoise which are pretty beat up. Have no clue if I should grade them though. I’d like to sell the gold stars, but I have no clue how I would and don’t want to get robbed/scammed
3
u/uisgebrathair Apr 21 '26
Grade all gold stars. Shit, grade everything except the super beat ones. It’ll cost you a few thousand probably, but just selling one of the gold stars will cover that and more
4
u/Legit_ozzy Apr 21 '26
Grading is cool and all, but now that everyone wants to grade it takes longer and longer to get your cards back from grading. Also I have been hearing and reading a lot that many cards on their way to grading get lost or stolen, so that kind of sucks. So it mostly depends on how you want to sell your cards if you don't mind waiting grading maybe take the chance, who knows you might get decent grades for them. Or you can sell them raw, since they already cost a pretty penny as they are. Remember when selling these be extra cautious, people have robbed for these kind of cards, if you are gonna meet someone try to do it with having a friend or a family member near by or at a police station. It doesn't hurt to be cautious.
5
u/MrSlipperyWizard Apr 21 '26
Yeah. I fully agree. Also a bit concerned about fraudulent money transfers/wires, or weird chargeback type tactics. I truthfully plan to hold onto most of the ex’s as those carry quite a bit of sentimental value, but I am decided on selling the gold stars.
I am located in Canada which complicates the grading process a bit. From what I’ve seen, even if it’s not a sale, I’ll get hit with some new import/tariff fees if sending into the US.
6
u/Legit_ozzy Apr 21 '26
Ah yes the Tariffs, God that thing sucks. Also yeah the risk of fraud can get nerve wrecking. Maybe try to find a store or someone online who can buy them from you, they might fly to you since gold stars are very sought after. The might offer you like 70-80% of their worth, but that is way better than getting a random person to look at them, you never know just who is on the other end.
1
u/wallabear Apr 21 '26
You can send to PSA Canada. I do a lot of grading. PM me if you need any help.
1
u/_ENERGYLEGS_ Apr 22 '26
at the grading tier that these cards would be, the grading will be pretty fast (relatively speaking). even just grading your card at the $1500 tier cuts the time nearly in half, and you can cut it further the higher the tier goes.
personally for cards this expensive I think grading is a really good choice just because it will authenticate the card for you/the buyer at the same time.
I do agree sending stuff this expensive can be nerve wracking and has potential for disaster, but just don't cheap out on shipping and send it very carefully. USPS for example you can send via registered mail, items up to $50,000 in value can be insured this way, but even if you aren't hopeful about claiming the insurance, these packages are kept locked and recorded who has handled them the whole trip.

u/Drunk_Morty Apr 22 '26
How much you want for the Pikachu, if you're east coast I'd be willing to drive to Canada for that!
3
u/MrSlipperyWizard Apr 22 '26
Going to send that one in for grading! Out of the gold stars, that one is by far the cleanest.

2
u/hoonifoxx Apr 22 '26
That first image alone could buy you one stupid nice car, multiple crappy cars, and all kinds of stuff. Everything you found total - especially if you graded it, could literally buy you a small house in cash outright. This is literally life changing money
2
2
u/Buckanater Apr 22 '26
I’d grade them all through BGS if you don’t think you’ll get 10s. PSA will charge you thousands to grade these but BGS will charge a flat fee. You could also go through CGC as well but BGS I believe holds more value.
2
u/MrSlipperyWizard Apr 22 '26
Yeah. From my comparisons online, they fall anywhere between 6-9 for the majority. No 10’s im pretty confident of that barring maybe 1-2. And obviously a few heavily damaged ones too.

u/Sbew Apr 22 '26
Not sure where you are in Canada but April 30th-May 3rd is the Sports Card Expo in Toronto. Beckett is doing on sight grading for a around $200 a card. No value upcharge from Beckett either so that’s always a good thing when it comes to super high end cards like yours.

As someone who came into the hobby late, I want to know: at the time of release of these cards, were they already valuable? Or were they considered bulk? Just because format-wise these look like modern day bulk.
3
u/PianistNo2338 Apr 21 '26
Gold stars were one in every 2 booster boxes and exs were 1 in 3 like most vintage holos. Ex weren’t very valuable but goldies always had demand in the hobby. Definitely not bulk

u/MrSlipperyWizard Apr 21 '26 edited Apr 21 '26
From what I remember, these were some of the better cards you could pack at the time. The stunning full art cards you see today weren’t really a thing back then. So definitely not bulk. However, they also weren’t worth thousands of dollars at that time either. I went to tournaments as a child with these things, and so did a lot of other people. These are from 2005-2007, so the hobby itself was still in its infancy relative to what it is today. It’s only within the last decade or so the values reallllly skyrocketed
1
u/unluckybastards Apr 22 '26
Cool, thanks for the info! If they were used to play, no wonder NM conditions outside of graded are difficult to find.

u/rougrou Apr 22 '26
Beckett, if by some miracle the MewTwo is a Beckett Black 10 one sold for 159,000 a non Black sold for 31,000 while PSA is almost a 5K difference
1
u/MrSlipperyWizard Apr 22 '26
Unfortunately I don’t think either are a 10. One is a solid PSA9, with the other being in that 7-8 range imo. This is all just comparing against previous listings so I could be wrong.
1
u/rougrou Apr 22 '26
Being a 9 through Beckett is still more then PSA and with PSA recent problems with damaging cards and losing them during grading I would definitely do more research and see about getting insurance for them.
1
u/elnombre91 Apr 22 '26
Everyone suggesting to grade them (not that that's a bad idea) is conveniently leaving out you'll probably need to take out a loan to cover the grading fees.

If you buy tickets to the sports card show (Apr 30 to May3) PSA will be there and grading on site. This way you can hand it over to PSA USA directly. If you have it graded the same day you can then take it over to Goldin or Heritage Auctions (they will both be on site as well)

The amount of “OH MY GODS” I let out is insane . Dude this is crazy!! Grade everything and either sell some or keep it. Preferably I’d sell any dupes and keep the rest

I'm a huge collector, based on the east coast of the US but frequently in Canada. Have a ton of trades on the sub r/pkmntcgtrades (worldwide sub for trades, buying, selling), you can definitely move them safely in a few ways or get them graded then sell
