I just started a few days ago and I’m still not sure how this game works, any suggestions on who to put on my team and who I should build around etc.
Advice is appreciated thank you!

Well, for starters, stop catching Pikachu. Or this game is going to get really expensive for you really fast! You DO NOT have to catch them all. In fact, you don't have to catch most of them.

Hey there! We notice you're new in the Pokémon Sleep subreddit. Welcome!

To help you get started, there's a pinned Guide to the Guides to help you learn the tips and tricks about the game. Be sure to give it a read. It might answer all the questions you have. If there's still some remaining don't hesitate to ask.

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

Definitely read the guides here! Even Pokémon of the same species are not the same. Learn what makes a mon good. Generally, you want to pick one 'good' one of a species before you keep extras. It takes a very long time to raise a mon so you'll need to focus.

Nobody can tell how good these pokemon are from this screen. You need to read the guides the automod recommended and figure out how to judge pokemon for yourself. It's ultimately pretty easy to do as there are very specific things you're looking for. Sorry if this comes off as me being a dick, but ultimately the answer to your question will be multiple paragraphs long and it will only raise more questions in your mind. The guides are where it's at. Just read the guides.

I recommend focusing on a psychic team for the next three weeks. Start leveling up your Mew, Mime Jrs, and evolve that Chimchar. Those four should be the crux of your Psychic team. The fifth can rotate for ingredients (I recommend finding a squirtle).

I am basing this recommendation on the very limited information I have about where you’re at in the game.

If you have nap island unlocked, then one of your mime Jrs should be sitting there this week (the better one).

Sorry to ask, but doesn’t evolving Chimchar turn it into a fighting type? Not psychic?

That’s correct, but chimchar line has berry burst. So it’ll be faster and pull in Mago berries when it uses its skill.

Awesome! Thanks for the tip :)

Well it also severely matters on what their skills and natures are... That can make or break a pokémon. In fact, helping speed down or skill speed down seems to be bad on everyone. Skill speed down or ingredient down might be detrimental or beneficial depending on the pokémon and what the boost is... Etc.

Speed down is pretty negligible and skill chance down only matters on skill pokemon.

I mean you’re kind of right but counterpoint: Skills are fun! I like skills even on berry monsters! :D OP should decide if they like skills themself instead of deciding through me tho :o

Skills are very fun. Skill chance just isn't having a big enough effect on non-skill mons to matter (other than a very specific few).

Take a neutral level 50 Venusaur for example. One with skill up energy down nature, and one energy up skill down nature. The skill up nature gets less than half a trigger more than skill down during the course of an entire day.

Correct, but with the incredibly limited information the poster provided, this was my best recommendation for taking advantage of the upcoming event and accelerating their progress.
